+Hi John dont be in despair my friend I still plan on doing abandoned locations as much as possible I just haven't had much luck on finding anything lately that I can access, or that still stands, the girls were my main scouts for them,. I was a Screw in that prison for 20 years. A good place to work . There were rules and respect for each other from both sides of the bars. The door you are wanting to enter leads to the old Special Unit for inmates with mental issues. The building on with the 2 towers is the North Block. The tower on the right has a ghost in it.

Yes I've been wanting to go back in myself. The building still belongs to the Corrections Department so try calling them. Lot's of ghosts in there mate. The Department had to keep getting it blessed after it closed in 2011 because maintenance contractors keep hearing voices.

I worked there 1985 to 1987 (moved to Oz). Went back to say hello to the boys in 2000. If you remember Gary Coulston (training), worked with his brother and nephew on a minesite in the Pilbara, Western Australia. Small world.
Was a prison officer there in the mid eighties. Believe it closed for business in 2011. Loved it. TNT GHOSTRIDERS I was there from 1985 to december 1987. Moved to Oz.

A scene from the movie 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence' starring David Bowie was shot in what was the Hanging Yard where the gallows were set up. The scene was sort of ruined though by the gang initials (MM) scratched into the wall. When I was there, this yard was used as the exercise yard for the inmates who found themselves on punishment and spent time it what was the death row cells. We called it 'The Pound'. Some inmates claimed it was haunted and some were genuinely scared shitless having to be there.

@@UrbanKiwiana i wish you all the best to find out who to talk and ask. the new jail head warrden should know who to talk to. it comes down to they dont want any one in the old rock for many reasons. one i can name is there are dead prisoners that are planted upside down in the court yard.from what i remember the visting room is in the main building. otherwise a add in the paper asking for ex inmates to chat with. keep up your awesome work.

I had a dream I woke up under one of the motorway underpasses and some prisoners were yelling at me from a window. I went to the place in my dream in real life. There was a wolf mask under the overpass I drempt I woke up at.

The rock as its also know as anyone who has done a long lag has definitely been there. I stopped in there for the night to the southwing before getting transferred to rimutaka prison in wellington across from the trentham army base on defence force grounds the next morning

🙂 I was deported back to South Africa since my release in 2004 because i made a silly mistake, I was young and dumb back then, anyway you keep trying buddy, hope you are successful one day, by the way if you ever visit Australia they do a tour of Fremantle prison just out of Perth which has a similar set up. the last hanging in rock was around 1957. the hanging in new zealand was 1967/1968. the last hanging was recorded and not made public.

Honestly I couldn't handle been locked up I spend everyday in nature and been told when to eat, shower, etc would drive me mental,.also I'm a introvert so been stuck around a lot off people I don't know and in general would do my head in.

@@UrbanKiwiana i been on the over head motorway (good view in). last time i seen the rock in person there was no razewire and that fence your were next to wasnt there and it was diesil trains using them rail line
it silly the jail system wont let youtuber in to record our nz past. by them not letting anyone in is in a away telling me they have something to hide and there something they dont want it being public knowledge

I believe that it should be our right to document our history and see it.. instead our history gets locked up or torn down and Noone is allowed near it..like that hospital neat Te Awamutu same thing it has 24 hour surcurity Why? try the front desk just watch out don't be walking around the premises the screws watch the cameras and might come racing with some code blue type of thing and question you if you can't find the front desk

@@UrbanKiwiana i hope you do,when i was in there i heard that some of the maori chiefs that were killed are buried within the walls,not sure if that was true but i can testify to hearing voices,footsteps,knocks and thuds,if it is unoccupied it is an experience u will enjoy.

🙂 I was deported back to South Africa since my release in 2004 because i made a silly mistake, I was young and dumb back then, anyway you keep trying buddy, hope you are successful one day, by the way if you ever visit Australia they do a tour of Fremantle prison just out of Perth which has a similar set up. +I ment to say 1953 was the last hanging. I put this on Google maps so others could visit an incredible old prison and admire it..
