To be fair to CarVertical, they can only find what has been reported. Neither of the ends was severely damaged, so it may well have never been reported or subjected to a claim against insurance. Somebody backs a bit too far into their garage and clouts the rear wall, or clumps into a railing at the station car park, or bangs into the flower pots outside the pub, they may pick up a replacement bumper from a scrapyard and ignore any damage beneath, because it can't be seen with the new bumper in situ. They then flog the car before its next MOT is due. How could any checking service possibly identify these issues?

  • @alancoomes2797

hi, We bought our daughter a 53 plate Clio 1.2 16v in black, slightly higher spec it has the sun roof ! and a/c . The ABS issue is probably one of the relluctor rings on the drive shaft, (available separately from the drive shaft), the scraping sound is more than likely one of the brake pads anti rattle mounting bits touching the disc, you get new ones with a set of pads . The boot floor damage with no cracks or split metal & corrosion and therefore is not an MOT fail. The oil issue - clean it up & check the rocker gasket they can split & leak down the side of the engine / gearbox, or cold be also just careless filling of oil. Rear exhaust mount is normally just the rubber bungee thing. Daughter still has her Clio, bought at 48K now on 125K after 13 years its taken her through Uni and beyond. Her sun roof doesn't leak and the a/c has only needed re gassing once. Rear bearings are cheap and an easy DIY job. Still no corrosion and just had a no advisory MOT a month ago. Cracking car.

Talk about being stitched up, I had to watch the video again before I made a comment. Car started ok when collected ? and no warning lights oh yes abs light on and oh lost any paperwork and oh dont need car anymore and oh rear end damage that would make it an insurance claim write off so leave it crumpled and put on another bumper--badly!. Oh and an obvious grinding noise the second you drove it. Fully valeted to make it look like its been cared for. Not sure how some people sleep at nights. Another totally up front honest review Matt.

I have a 2001 Renault Mégane that I bought over ten years ago. Until the second timing belt change last year ( it cost nearly as much as I paid for the car) , it was an economical car to run. A full service will cost me nearly half of what I paid all those years ago. Hopefully it'll sail through the MOT later this year. The cost of a new car or second hand car, forces me to keep paying to keep my car on the road.

My son now drives it as his first car . Cheap insurance , never really goes wrong , great fuel economy, can park anywhere in town and not too worried about dents or scuffs .
The ONLY annoying thing is trying to change headlight bulbs !!! Really impossible to get fingers in space due to aircon duct …

Used to have one of these, surprisingly large amount of room once the back seats down. Used to get two lads, two downhill mountain bikes, and a load of gear in the back. Think mine was £300 in 2010, needed some bits doing I sold it after a year for £700 all fixed up. People shit on them but I fixed everything myself and it was simple super cheap transport exactly what I needed at the time. Cant you barely pass it, use it for vid and pass it on to one of those one man bands that fix up and sell on cars?

Honestly, huge cars inside for their size and still a really safe car to be in!
I'm still currently running a 2003 1.6 16v and I love it to bits. Goes well, still looks quite fresh and even enough room for a washing machine in the back with the seats down and boot closed.
Just used mine to collect around 10 2.4m planks for flooring, only about half a foot sticking out of the boot with the front passenger seat folded forward!
