The $3,199 Guitar Review | 2023 Gibson USA Kirk Hammett Greeny Les Paul Standard Faded Review
Today, we check out the Gibson USA Version of "Greeny"
We've finally done them all (so far...)
I thought this was a good guitar but in my opinion despite the pickups being the same, it sounded very different from the Custom Shop Guitars. Both good in their own unique ways, but I preferred the Custom Shops

What do you think - Sound the same or different? I thought it sounded good in the recording but wasn't as in love with it in the Room. Great guitar, but "different" from CS

The top and color looks like my '13 Traditional.
The Adam Jones Gibson USA seems like the better deal at $200 cheaper…you can always get a Seymour Duncan Green Magic if you want the flipped magnet thing in the neck…
I should hope wasn’t the same as cs in your hand since there’s a 17,000$ difference in price , but sometimes I wonder if the cost is what makes people blind to the fact there isn’t much difference I’ll never know though cuz I would never pay 20k for a guitar
The featured guitar looks good and sounds good. Not having just watched the two previous versions of this model I cant say whether it sounded that different. I know Metallica covered Whiskey in The Jar but wasn't Gary Moore with Thin Lizzy when they did it?
Is Gibson going to start selling the pickups separately? You have connections, so I bet you can find out 😁
When 3.2k is considered "affordable", you know there's something wrong with Gibson.
On a more serious note, faded finishes are not a feature: they are a cost cutting measure.
So a 700 dollar premium for the pickups and the greeny name sounds too much. Maybe if it had a proper finish.
100%, thats why I opted for the faded honeyburst
even if it was a 100 dollar premium everyone would complain. Everyone loves to hate Gibson. Similar to Bethesda Game Studios in the gaming world.
@@Mephilis78 Bethesda releases games that are broken and leaves it to modders to fix them.
Gibson charges prices as if it were "the pinnacle of craftmanship" (words used on its certificates of authenticity), but then delivers so-so quality control.
It's not about love or hate; we are not in high school anymore. It is about whether these companies can be trusted to deliver a product according to the price they are charging or not, which they cannot.
@@nsp477 So does everyone else in the industry.
@@Mephilis78 Even if that were true, it does not excuse Bethesda and Gibson's behavior, nor it means consumers need to put up with it.
you have to love how freaking Gibson figured out a way to sell you a faded standard for a $700 premium.
What did Gibson run out of cherry stain what's with the brown back .
>AAA top
>Custom Shop Pickups you can't afaik buy separately yet
>celebrity edition instrument x3
>eventually going to be a collector's item/limited production
Get it yet?
@@rocketpigrecords3719 this guitar is never going to be a collector’s item man. Then custom shop pickups?! The Gibson custom shop uses the 490 set sometimes depending on the model. All of the guitars use Gibsons pickups. And being a model that you can only buy with this guitar does not make any sense because you can buy the pickups the actual guitarist has in the real guitar from other companies.
Gibson hasn’t sold me jack. Gibson is one of the many poorly run greedy companies I’d never do business with. I bought my Les Paul used, years ago for hardly anything, and when the headstock cracked sitting in it’s case, I repaired it myself. We live in the Golden Age of guitars why buy Gibson junk when you can buy so many other guitars that sound as good, are better made, play better, and are far cheaper.
@@rocketpigrecords3719 I hear 'ya, but.............
>AAA top is partially obscured by the satin finish. Trogly's guitar here in a standard gloss finish would be absolutely stunning, subdued in satin finish though.
>Custom Shop Pickups you can't afaik buy separately yet - Gibson now sells the "Greeny" pick-up set for $299 (on their website)
>celebrity edition instrument x3 - There is nothing on or included with this guitar indicating any history, endorsement, or "celebrity edition". No COA, no special case (a' la' Bonamassa for example), no back of the headstock stamp/decal, not even a truss rod cover name. Nuthin'
>eventually going to be a collector's item/limited production - all information indicates that this model will be in the Gibson regular rotation, no limited edition.
Just sayin' 🙂
Only trogly would suggest light sand paper for a brand new $3,000 Gibson.
On the tuners. The screw that holds the buttons onto the shaft can be loosened to free up the tuners. There are teflon spacers and concave washers between the buttons and the actual tuner gearbox. Loosening the screw a little allows more backlash between the worm gears in the tuner housing and makes the tuners easier to turn. If you loosen it too much, the tuning can slip. If it is too tight, the worm hears can be stripped out. There is a happy medium. The tuners were designed for this purpose. Good luck and have fun! Good day!
Gibson's New Ad Campaign: Gibson: If you aren't spending $6K, Don't expect much.
I much prefer the non-relic'd iteration of this one (I personally would also prefer all matching knobs....sorry, just me. I don't like the mismatching & would be looking for the same guitar design, but in a "New Guitar" Version)..... $3199.00 is too much for this. And... people need to stop accepting these manufacturing flaws in any guitar over $1000.00, let alone 3 times that.
So basically you aren't looking for a "Greenie". 😉
Me too.
@@Relayer6a True! Even though I appreciate the tone of that guitar.... I won't pay "extra" for someone to try to scar it up to look as worn. I want my "new guitar" to look new..... and I do try to keep them looking that way.
@@wadeguidry6675 👍
@@BrentAdams So do I. I think relicing started as a way to be able to sell guitars that had poor finishes. LOL
$3100 and all you have to do is buy and fit the right tuners, strap locks, caps, re-wire it, buff it and sand the binding. At least it has a killer top…
IDK $3199, visually it reminds me of a Gibson LP Tribute or a nice Epi LP with satin finishes. Kudos on the pickups. To spend over $3k and then have to mod it to make it more "authentic" seems terrible. I'll stick with Gibson LP Custom Shops, nicer Standards, and nice Traditional T's. Thanks for the review Trogly, great as usual!
I've owned many Les pauls and custom shop Les Paul Customs from A to Z are turned out and I just keep coming back to those I own two right now getting a third for whatever reasons we have multiple guitars always needing one more The top on this guitar looks cool and I'm glad they didn't let some 8-year-old with a pair of scissors Xzacto knife blowtorch and sandpaper do their version of distressing horrible
LP tributes are horrible cheap and I won't even go to epiphone's and whatever's going on there.
These pickups are pivotal on this guitar for the money for all the hype of what it is it'll be a 5K+ guitar in about 10 minutes so with the spike in Les Paul's the past few years all guitars actually It's just what you can afford and whatever reasons you have to have THAT instrument.
Gibson slinging out another sucker catcher. My 2020 50's Les Paul Standard would put this to shame.
But for someone who wants a "greenie" but can't afford 20 grand then this could be a viable option.
After all you don't have to buy it...
Nobody cares
That "Nitpicky" comment on a 3k guitar..yeah maybe for Gibson standards 🤨.
If I bust 3k I expect something flawless for that much of my money..
For 3k it better have pure gold hardware and diamond inlays
So basically it's just a satin les paul standard with mixed knobs and different pickups?
Bingo!
yep, you could buy a New faded series Les Paul and switch the pickups to greenie and save $400 or more.
and a AAA top. And $300 pickups. And a bound neck. And fret nibs. And a triple artist series guitar from three of the GOAT guitarists. And it's now sold out on Gibson's website and they're linking to the Epiphone version only on the main Greeny page for all four Greeny series.
It does not look like a Greenie - it sort of resembles it, but top is way too striped and back/sides are more cherry. It's a great looking guitar on it's own, but too different from Greenie.
For most of the time the original was in Gary Moore's hands it had Schaller m6 tuners in so for me (Peter and Gary fan) they look spot on.
Wow, Mine showed up on Wednesday, Big difference. Serieal number is November 1 2022, weighs 9lbs 15oz. A Tank. Neck and binding much cleaner. I've been really happy so far through my Orange 20 amp and really fun with the fender mustang micro and bose head phones. Oh yeah, GC knocked $300 bucks off online and shipped to the door in 4 Days.
I just ordered a 10lb 5oz behemoth with a top that looks like SSJ3 flames. It's literally the best top I've ever seen on a Les Paul anywhere online or in person. Better than any top on an R8, R9, or R0.
bought a second hand lp tribute 2019 for a few days with dot inlays.. and what can i say; the lp is s dream, buttersmooth play, lightweight, slimtaper neck, no scatch issues, nice low string action and a tabacco burst top. 750$ with gibson-case btw :D. feels and sounds great. dont know if that greeny would me give more feelings :p .. but as usual, great video!
You should flip the poker chip over and see if it has writing on it.
I had a faded standard a while back and the over scraped binding is the reason i got rid of it. I didn't like feeling the sharp edge where the wood neck met the binding when i played.
I really like the satin finish. I just bought my first satin finish guitar, (Ibanez RGT1220PB) and it's flawless looking. It's way better than the glossy poly/acrylic finish on my old PRS Custom 24. That one seems to get a new scratch every month. Lol.
No excuse for that binding on a 3 thousand dollar guitar or a 3 hundred dollar guitar
Sadly my epiphone Les Pauls are better put together than my Gibsons. With the exception of the fretboard, but that is to be expected since they Plek the Gibson’s.
Agreed, spend a little more time on them to avoid this sorta thing/s
Agreed. I returned a Les Paul Custom for the same issue.
You’re all crazy
Don't think they are crazy, sent back multiple Gibson's due to q/c issues - switched to PRS problem went away. Gibson q/c still lacking
It's pretty incredible to see that much of a difference in price between the models, but I get it to a degree. Then again, the $3,200 model should pretty much sound identical to the $50K one. Collector or player...hmm.
You would think a player cares more about the sound than a collector. Well, the collector just wants to imagine the incredible sound a guitar would get if someone actually played it. lol
Truth!@@MarsHalekGuitar
Your top is better than mine was, mine looked like it was two different cuts of maple they were two different colours not what I expect for a premium AAA top, mine suffered from the same tooling marks as yours and was 9.7 lbs , I returned it Gibson you need to do better for £3000 !
9.7 lbs is heavy, they could make weight relief to get that ''light mahogany'' lightness.
Does no one else think the back being painted the wrong colour is kinda wild on what is a signature guitar? Like that’s the point 😂
Kinda regretted buying a Slash LP and turning the pickups into "Greeny" when I heard there's actually going to be a true Greeny Standard. Having seen your Review I don't regret a thing. This guitar is nice, but not 3.2k nice.
and prefer the pickups on the Slash LP over this guitar. Adam Jones LP has best pickups of all three in terms of great clean, crunch and high gain tone.
Great review, as alaways. I've seen all your Greeny reviews, and now I await a 300USD Greeny, Comes home in a few days. I don't expect a diamond for so little money, just something to mod and play. I have a LP Standard, faded, I am happy with, plus other Gibsons, just can't follow the prices into the stratosphere. Thank you for your efforts, you are GOLD!
For this price, I would get the Adam Jones LP Standatd.
same here! better guitar
According to the shop I visited today and tried the Greeny, you can buy the Greeny Buckers separately now.
I liked how it played and sounded. I love the vintage aesthetic. That said, I found the satin finish TOO MUCH. I think it needs a bit of gloss on it for feel. It just feels unfinished, but not in a good way. I don’t know.. it’s still on my list.
i don't know man, trogly is always making excuses for the poor workmanship on gibsons, you shouldn't have to sand the edges of the binding or put up with qc issues on a $3000 guitar. guitars that cost half that are pretty near perfect.
I agree. You would never find those issues on a $3000 + guitar of any other brand.
My Harley Benton SC Special
Had no flaws for 1/10 the $
i bought one like this and i am resaling it.
I prefer by far the finish and sound of my 2022 Standard 60's...
Thanks for reviewing Austin.
Why do you prefer the 60s? Can you give a little detail please? Thanks…
If the caps are the same values, you won't see any difference in tone, unless the tolerances are way off. No matter the style of construction of the capacitor.
With all due respect, I wholeheartedly disagree. We can spare each other the arguments we’ve already heard.
If we’re both basing from empirical, how cool would it be to experience the other’s evidence? It would be worth being wrong to have my mind changed by that, and maybe a tie-breaker third or fifth party lol
Agreed. I'm a tech and have A/B'd orange drop and bumble bee caps. .022 is .022 from what I heard - zero difference from each other regarding tone that I can hear.
Interesting.
Well, personally I had like 3 or 4 sets of orange drops, with a variety of voltage ratings but same capacitance, and heard a difference between them. Supposedly this is impossible. Was using alligator clips direct on the pots, in the control cavity; not some breakout board, long leads, or decade box or whatever.
Then I did the same with a large variety of caps I’d gathered for this purpose; mostly PIO, foil, and some different capacitance ratings among them. It’s a ziploc bag full of em. The best way I can describe what I heard is something like the difference between a sine wave and a human voice; the NOS bumblebees had the most prominently-complex (like a human) voicing, even when the tone knob is effectively off (which still stumps me), and in particular, when single notes ring-out. It wasn’t even close/debatable. I was also focused on all related attributes; action string type/thickness, pick shape/material… I may write a book lol
I wasted a lot of time, energy, and money not getting the right sound because I first listened to the logical naysayers.
So, I respect the opinion, but also strongly disagree.
Pat Furlan has some decent vids testing capacitors in specific ways that reveal differences.
any difference in sound would be due to rated value and tolerance, construction makes no difference in such a low voltage circuit.
I just bought a Slash November Burst which I love, last year. Now I kinda want this. Not too happy about the QC issues, but that's par for the course from Gibson. Oh well. BTW, I love that polish job you did on that satin LP.
My first Slash Standard in Nov burst had a gouge out of the binding you could catch your finger nail between the side of the neck and fretboard. They filled it with crazy glue somewhat and shipped it. The replacement had no quality issues other than the nut needed tweaking. I just picked an Adam Jones Standard with no quality issues. Hit and miss with Gibson but when you find the right one…..
Can you comp the sound samples of each Greeny for a side by side comparison? I’m obsessed with this guitar!
I guess my only gripe is that if you're principally looking for the out-of-phase sound, why not get the relevant pickup set from Bare Knuckle, Monty's Guitars, Seymour Duncan, or whoever else, and simply install it in the Les Paul of your choice? Add on another few bucks for replacement knobs and you're there. Plus you could sell the stock pickups to make a little money back.
Doubtless being an official Greeny model will carry weight for some people though.
Exactly
True. I did that with a set of Bareknuckle PG Blues and it did the trick
@@craiglizt8074 How did they wire the pickups to get that sound? Did you install them to a Les Paul? or Les Paul type of guitar?
@@mylogify I don't recall. I just put them in an LP Standard with 50s wiring and it was good from there.
I don't own that guitar anymore since I didn't get on with it in other ways.
@@craiglizt8074 Oo ok… Sorry that you don’t have it anymore…
I definitely love my Slash Appetite Burst for the flame-y top but the red back too. That combination to me is vibrant over the brown Greeny back
I too bought a Slash Appetite Burst for these same reasons over this guitar.
@@fendushi yes 100%!
So I don’t have to pay $19k or $50k+ for a heavily damaged guitar? And the more I spend the more damaged it is? Love it.
An old useful common tool gets used and beat up. That's how some guitar players treat their guitars. Like old tools the love and prefer. But some consumers look at a Gibson Guitar as an investment or a trophy. Perfectly fine either way.
Chrome seems wrong , id prefer Nickel.
Hi All. I purchased Austin’s USA Greeny I received it yesterday (thanks for the Fast shipping Austin) and here is my take. 1. Not a fan of mat Finish lots of rough spots around the body. (I’m going to take it to a shop and see if they can buff it to a gloss. A/B against my 2005 Les Paul Classic(I did the Peter Green magnet flip to that one).
1. Through a Vox AC-15 and Ethos Overdrive they sound quite similar, with Greeny sounding slightly better(the Greeny neck pickup sounds Much clearer than the 496R. The Greeny neck feels much better(Classic has a flatter neck) I ordered a 50’s wiring Bumble bee cap harness from ebay. I’m interested to see if there is a dramatic sounds difference. I think I will keep the Greeny, and sell the Classic, but i definitely dont see a double the price difference (Classic was $1500). Honestly if they had Greeny Standard silkscreened on the headstock I would have liked it more. I am very happy I got the Official Trogly’s Greeny, as if I ever need to sell it for food/rent or high maintenance partner, that pedigree alone will maintain its value👍. Thanks again Austin.
That is really nice, I love the natural backs
Was waiting for your review...thanks for that. Have watched other reviews on this guitar as well. In Australia they will be around 6K, so quite expensive. Am tossing up between this and a Fender Custom shop Ltd Ed 51 HS Tele, Aged - about 6.7K here. The US20K version I have seen here for 46k so unreachable really as an option. I have a 2015 LP Standard with real pearl and wider neck/GForce which is actually an excellent guitar, despite the controversy (with 'out of phase' pull knobs on the tone pot). Watching your review I'd probably gut the wiring and redo it, which then I have to ask the question, at 6K, do I bother or just get the Custom Shop Fender. I maybe wrong but after seeing this I am not sure its worth it - or maybe wait and see if they bring out an Epi. I am a massive Moore fan but I don't feel this is 'close enough' at 6K, recognising that I don't expect a US20K result either - just a little closer than what this offers. I’d likely pay say around 8-8.5k Australian for perhaps a version that was custom shop closer to the 20k version. They could have put out a base custom shop model to fill that gap. I’d likely pay that. I would argue this is just a LP with Greeny pickups. I'd be better off with a 50's Standard I think. Much to think about but have to say I am leaning towards the Fender.
My prediction for an Epiphone version is a Burstbucker in the bridge and a flipped Burstbucker in the neck. No way will they do a Greeny set for the Epi and I'm guessing the same satin finish as their version of the R9.
Not sure what tuners they'd use, but I'm sure they'll at least do the tone and volume dials
I'd be very happy with an Epi - esp if they do the satin finish - then flip in some Monty's Bethnal Greens.
From what I hear Kirk likes the Epi the best of all the Greeny copies lol
@@craigusselman546 Yeah, didn't he say it was his couch guitar? I heard that even that has a Greeny specific Burstbucker
You should’ve had it shipped via UPS so you could have something closer to the Custom Shop version. 😂
LOL, aka bring it straight to a luthier for headstock repair.
Does anyone know where you can buy a set of the custom shop gold knobs? Not the regulars but custom shop. Thanks
Now that you have played both the Greenies and Slash Gibsons, what do you prefer? There is no comparison video online I can find that compares in the same video.
Can anyone tell me what this guitar has to do with the greeny moore ? I suppose it's a nice enough guitar, but it's literally nothing at all like a greeny, not in any respect at all. Did I miss something ?
Absolutely nothing. Gibson and Hammett making a $ off of the name. I’m sure it’s a nice guitar, but it doesn’t give me “Greeny/Moore” vibes at all and definitely not worth $3000 to me.
Not that it is a big deal but I did want to know if it was a two piece body or not. Gibson does an incredible job of matching the two pieces. It looked like a one piece but I've heard some owners have been getting two piece bodies. No problem having a two piece body imo. My main issue with these guitars is these great tops coming with a satin finish, and the natural back instead of cherry. Tone wasn't that great on the demo. I'll pass on this.
They are two piece bodies.
Killer axe! I've purchased 9 Gibson guitars since 2021. 100% of them had QC issues - 2 were returned because they were pretty bad. It's a a shame $3200 gets you substandard results.
I'd stop buying Gibson after the 2nd one with QC issues...
thinking you may not want to buy a 10th flawed overpriced unit.....
@@markbaum9615 no one else is making the exact same guitars
@@markbaum9615 my example may be rare but I paid like 1400 (canadian mind you) for an sg tribute 2022 model it has no flaws from factory that I nor my brother noticed it is a satin finish though def changes things glad I hit the jackpot with it lmao with all the problems I hear others having I got lucky
Guys, lets be honest here: Gibson had QC issues in the 50's, 60's 70's 90's (the guitars were actually great but the nitro on the early 90's not that much), 00 and so forth. It kinda became part of their branding by now. the good old underpaid and undertrained American labour. I have a good friend who works at Nashville. He say that they are mostly great people working there. Hardworking people. I see the QC issue at Gibson as a GIBSON problem. Wich is a shame because i do love their stuff and I had quite a few of them. A love and Hate relationship here ahahaha
@@rustedsunday7489 For better or worse I guess.
Are those bumblebee caps from the other 2 available? Did you get the ratings of those caps?
Uneven finish, tooling marks, stuff that shouldn't be on a $3000+ guitar, touching a $3000+ guitar with sand paper shouldn't have to be done either.
Good thing other brands aren't copying Gibson on that, otherwise they'd probably come after them. 😂
I love the faded or satin ones.
I'd agree if they were cheaper.
This video has made me think about the whole 50s wiring vs modern. Has anyone noticed much of a difference playing with volume at 10?
Fot that money i'd rather buy a high end tokai love rock from the 80's.

4:10 re:pick guard, that’s me lol!
How can you affirm that those are the same pickups used in the custom shop versions? Are they unpotted as well? Did you open them and checked the bobbins wire material?
I'm happy to tell you the difference. The Greenybuckers on the custom shops have aged nickel historic shaped covers and poles. Those pickups are unpotted. The USA manufactured guitars have the normal USA new nickel covers, poles screws and are potted. The rest is the same. Same materials, etc.
@@brandonwoundpickups hi Jared, thanks for the reply. Though I know that, what I meant is how he can affirm that those are the same ones fitted in the Custom Shop model.
For it to sound different not just in the wood and electronics, the PUPS can be completely different even
though they are all Greeny Buckers. Hand wound instead of not, and also wax potted instead of unpotted.
There would be much more attention to detail in a Custom Shop vs. the USA. Even a Custom Shop that is $10000
less lol. When you pick it up you notice a difference right away. Still at $3200 having a signature name is
not too bad. It is a Kirk, not a Greeny lol. I'm curious to check out the USA one, who knows, I would have
to play it to love it or not. Excellent video, thanks for showing one in and out.
Sweet guitar. I was gassing for this bad boy bad. Luckily I wasn't able to get one before they sold out. My local GC just got an Adam Jones Standard in stock last week and I bought it this weekend instead. When I got there it was still in the back and unplayed by grubby hands. I love it!
I think I'll just get some Seymour Duncan Green Magic's with my gear rewards and put them in my 60's unburst instead.
Love the unburst , it’s the best of the bursts IMO.
I bought an Unburst about a year ago. It's a keeper.
That Adam Jones Standard plays and sounds killer - especially with the Ebony fretboard. I bought one too! 😁
Imma wait for the epiphone 😂
yeah, but it's an epi. MOST of them suck and still have ugly headstocks.
The tailpiece ground is a tin plated solid copper buss wire (16 AWG?). I think the better choice is a single conductor 18 AWG silver plated copper high stranded Teflon coated wire. The strands spay out (unwind the strands and splay them out before installation) more effectively around the tailpiece cylindrical wood threaded insert without offsetting the insert or making it difficult to install. The solid copper buss wire would probably have to flatted out somewhat in order to work without a great deal of pounding. The Teflon insulation will not melt when soldering the wire to the back of a pot. Given the length of the bus wire of the guitar in the video, why not solder the tailpiece ground to the ground lug connection on the two terminal lug solder strip?
Or just buy an early ‘00s trans amber Std with your preferred neck shape, spend £200 on a set of Greenie clone pickups and £70 on some terrible looking Schallers.
How do they decide whether to use a LIGHTWEIGHT v.s. FULL WEIGHT tailpiece?
Is taipiece weight a specification from a certain era? Or is tailpiece weight it just a 'random' choice? OR does it depend on the weight of the GUITAR? I can't imagine it would make much difference, but do they, for instance, use lightweight tails on examples with heavier wood?
I mean with SIGNATURE models I assume it would be the artist's choice? I'm sure there are people who find that maybe a HEAVY tailpiece results in better 'sustain' or something?
Well we got the Epiphone version. And yes it has the Greeny pickups. Along with Switchcraft jack and selector and CTS pots for 1500. Though something else you might want to look at are 59 Epiphones. American electronics and a satin finish for 1000 though they are limited.
I will wait for the Epiphone.
Seeing how much the Dave Mustaine Epis are going for, I wouldn't be surprised if an Epi model of this was $1.5k or more.
It is me or this guitar sounds bit less defined on Mids and highs compared to the CS example? The sound was a bit mushy to my taste
really like the middle position in all tone tests.
I kinda like it. Just gotta flip that neck pickup around and fix the nobs to the desired choice and you got something. I like the satin finish as well.
Had to return mine. Neck binding was underlapping the neck on both sides throughout the whole neck. I did love the top.
Nice review! They definitely need to sell those pickups on their own.
If you like this guitar and Greeny Les Pauls but want something a little cheaper and glossed, maybe try the Les Paul Standard in Unburst finish. Some of those are pretty close to Greeny looking.
Seymour Duncan makes Greenie style pups for $360
i just bought a SG61 faded Gibson for 1750.-Euros......thats fine and expensive enough for what it is.....instead of a Les Paul i have now ordered a prs mccarty sc SE....for about 900.- and that's the much better guitar...looks, sounds and playability.
I returned mine.. wasn't anything special for $3199.. out of phase I can get out of my 2018 Standard.. The color is off the top isn't a true AAA and the satin finish looks cheap.. The quality was bad too..
How’s the neck compared to slash model? I was able to grab the neck on a slash model and it wasn’t chunky for me. I prefer a small neck for my standard size hands.
My first LP came with a gloss top but a satin back and neck. Wasn't an intentional choice on my part, but it's pretty much spoiled me for all other Gibsons 😆
Did you ever do a review/comparison of the Collector's Choice Melvyn Franks version? I'm interested in the quality of that compared to the 50k version even though it's quite different.
Can you do a review for the Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s Heritage Cherry Sunburst?
A stunning guitar!!! It looks like my Epi Lazarus….
I'm thankful I invested in the 2015 era gibsons I've got some nice models and the standard honey burst I spec'd to Greeny isn't far off. (before people say yes the robot tuners and circuit boards are swapped out 😅)
I have a 2015 LP standard. Still stock. Love the wider neck, tuners and pickups. Also in Honeyburst. We are blessed to have real pearl I think and out of phase push pulls. Outstanding guitars.
I really love these semi affordable quality signature artist Les Paul guitars. Played Slash LP and loved it but need to try this one and the Adam Jones LP to decide which to get.
Trogly, what did you do to buff out the satin finish? I have a 335 satin that I’d like to convert to gloss
All Gibson basically start out as satin finish. They are cheaper to make. It’s the polishing that takes time. It will be a very fine cut polish.
"my dealer definitely hooked me up on this one" -Trogly 2023
My 2 Gibson Les Paul Standards came flawless. I would never have accepted that binding job, don't care how good the top looks. This gives Gibson a pass on QC!
People really need to stop giving them passes for that atrocious QC. They’ll never improve as long as people keep accepting it.
is the neck super chunky compared to slash signature model?
14:44 I recognize that theme, LOL. Mega Man 2, Dry Wiley stage 1 except played in a different key, LOL
Dude, Dr. Wily Stage 1 from Mega Man 2?? Excellent choice. Makes me want to go listen to the Advantage now
Check out Bit Brigade!
i would have loved it more if they would have placed the les paul logo and would have put the Kh signature logo on the truss rod cover . Apart from that this its an absolutely gorgeous looking guitar
At 10:39 you talk about the tooling marks on the binding, is that a warranty issue or is that what you get, luck of the draw? Thanks.
you get what you get kind of thing
Not sure how I feel about this. Nice top, nice fretboard, but the satin finish doesn't sit right with me, like they've done it because they don't want the CS customers to feel like they've overpaid, but for the cost of this guitar, they should be taking the time to give it the full gloss finish.
The fit and finish issues are disappointing also.
Just ordered one
Clean, sounds nice, with distortion it's kinda meh for me, I don't know if he changes something in his amp or is just how it sounds, I'm not impressed
I bought a Les Paul Standard 60s Faded recently and the tool marks on the neck binding are absolutely terrible. Fortunately, I love the sound and the playability of that guitar. It is just disappointing to get this kind of aesthetic issues on a $2500 guitar.
It is a shame to realease a guitar like this for this pricepoint. Most other brands feature premium guitars.
Gibson's are my fave . But man their craftsmanship is so poor . Crazy, must pay their employees like shit
Actually, if you work the volume and tone knobs while in the middle position you can get some amazing sounds/tones. Love this guitar
Have to say it does not sound like Greenie
Megaman 2 woodman level, loved that Trogly. Good job. @14:44
So, they save money on the finish and flip the magnet in one of the BurstBuckers? No thanks. Doesn’t look like it at all.
I feel like it wasn’t as bright, but I think I’d like to hear a side by side comparison.
i like my SG faded, but i paid $600 for it. if they are trying to save money i seriously don't mind them 'skipping' a finish. i like seeing the wood grain, and the thin satin-nitro lacquer feels AMAZING and wears wonderfully.
I like it , but I like amber and AFDs and unfortunately I’ll never be able to spend 10 none the less 50k on a guitar, but I might could see giving around three for the right one to hopefully become a family heirloom, I honestly don’t care about the guitar that inspired it , yeah it’s cool as far as historical guitars with stories and it looks killer but for me amber dirty lemon bursts just look good the only thing that would make it cooler is a crown headstock inlay , I know that “greenie” didn’t have a crown, but I like crown headstock inlays and tuxedo t-shirts 😂
I’d also like a plain top for about 500 less
Neck tenon is short?
Not as impressed as I thought I would be. Would like to see a comparison with the Epiphone Les Paul 1959 Lemon Burst as offered by Andertons in the UK which has actual Gibson BurstBuckers neck & bridge, CTS Pots, Mallory Capacitors, and 50s-Era Wiring. I think this may be the closest to a Greeny that Epiphone currently offer. The satin finish and synthetic neck inlays on the LP Standard look to be the same.
Nice Ewan Dobson riffs in the end! 14:45 😊
