Slaves and Bulldozers is highly underrated in my opinion. It’s one of my favorite Soundgarden songs. Chris’ first solo album Euphoria Morning is outstanding. There is a live version of When I’m Down that is so amazing it was filmed at the Troubadour in January 29, 2010. Another song you might like is Say Hello to Heaven. He wrote it and performed it with the band Temple of the Dog. 11:24 Thanks for reacting to more of his work.
Grunge was quite good in retrospect. Soundgarden and others rocked. Took real gritty rock mainstream. I was into Pixies and Ramones but definitely liked Soundgarden 🎤🎸💥
Temple of the Dog was a project he did with Mike McCready and Jeff Ament, who was playing for Mother Love Bone and frontman Andy Wood who sadly died of an OD just before their first album was released. Chris and Andy were roommates. 😊
I always loved Sound Garden. Was right after high school. He always sang about depression and was later taken by by it. As for singers in grunge He's my favorite scream singer but there are many other greats in grunge. Like Eddie Vedder is in a class by himself
Most of the darkness in the lyrics & music during the grunge era was because the bands got into heroin & other drugs. It fueled their creativity, yet disintegrated their personal relationships with those they loved & cared about. They became aware of that but the addictions were too strong. Some of the best died because of their addictions. Not uncommon with musicians, creative people, & unfortunately everyday people in our world now. Addictions are extremely difficult to overcome. So sad but true for all involved. 😢
Yeah Biz, during the grunge area, these guys were overlooked some of the time. And IMO, they were right behind Alice in Chains. RIP Chris Cornell, one of the greatest rock singers there was!! Rock on!!¡
Chris Cornell formed Soundgarden in Seattle in the 80's... they were a huge indie band by 1988 and part of what became the 90's 'grunge rock' scene which included Nirvana... The Melvins... Mother Love Bone (later, Pearl Jam) ... Tad... Alice in Chains... etc. In 1991, Cornell wrote and recorded the album 'Temple of the Dog'... it was a record that was dedicated to the memory of his friend Andrew Wood, lead singer of Seattle rockers Mother Love Bone who died in 1990 from an OD. Soundgarden scored a platinum record in 1991 w/ 'Badmotorfinger'... and by the time the next album 'Superunknown' was released in 1994, Nirvana's Kurt Cobain was gone... Alice in Chains was in hiatus... and Pearl Jam was no longer appearing on MTV... So, Soundgarden filled the void left by the absence of 3 major bands and scored a massive hit album that hit #1 on the charts & sold 6x platinum in the US. In 1996, Soundgarden released 'Down on the upside'... and it went to #2 on the charts but sold platinum only... Soundgarden was also struggling playing concerts onstage and the band fell apart by early 1997 when they announced their breakup. Chris Cornell released his first solo album 'Euphoria morning' in 1999 but it only sold 300K+ copies... In 2002, he joined members of Rage Against the Machine to form the band Audioslave and released 3 successful albums - 'Audioslave' (2002)... 'Out of exile' (2005) and 'Revelations' (2006) before quitting the band. Cornell went back to his solo career, even recording the album 'Scream' in 2009 w/ hip hop producer Timbaland. Soundgarden finally reunited and released their comeback album 'King Animal' in 2012... and Chris Cornell also carried on w/ his solo music... Sadly, Soundgarden experienced the same problems on tour as Chris Cornell struggled onstage and unexpectedly ended his own life in 2017.
In the late 80's when I was still immersed in punk rock/ art rock, the first two bands that I heard about coming from Seattle, later to be labeled "grunge", were Soundgarden and Mudhoney. Nirvana shortly after. I never really cared much for grunge but i did appreciate and like Soundgarden and Mudnoney pretty much.
Crank it up! "Black Hole Sun" always got the heavy rotation back when, but this one was my fav. That said, this must be an alternate take because the guitar fills are different from the album version. The early fill that caught your attention, after Cornell sings, "I'm only faking when I get it right \ When I get it right", caught my attention too because it wasn't the fill I remember. So I went and pulled up my copy of the song and listened along and sure enough it is different. This version is slightly more raw than the polished version that went on the album. PS. For some "countrified" Chris Cornell, check out "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart" from his final album, Higher Truth, released in 2015.
nice commentary. one of the all time great vocalists. I guess there's something about putting your soul out there and living this dark subject matter that just takes it out of you. amazing album... apart from the tracks that got well known, also check out Head Down and maybe my ATF SG, Limo Wreck.
From this record you can do 4th of July, Black Hole Sun, Spoonman. From Badmotorfinger you can do Rusty Cage and Outshined. There are many greats like Burden In My Hand, Blow the Upside or the classic Hand All Over... list can be long
This was good, but this 60/70's girl wants to know, are all grunge songs dark and depressing? I do admire Chris Cornell. I only know Chris's solo work. I love his cover of "Stay With Me Baby"
Soundgarden is one of the leading bands out of that initial wave of grunge(Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots) that really got big. I like good amount of their material...and they do get dark. Rusty Cage, Outshined, Spoonman, Black Hole Sun... Honestly though, I loved his work with Audioslave more.
They lasted too long for Chris. If you watch footage of him performing over the years with different people and on his own it’s pretty revealing. I’m not saying that Soundgarden wasn’t a great band. I just think that there was a lot of underlying issues that weren’t being addressed which isn’t good for anyone.
One of the most powerful rock vocalists ever. RIP Chris Cornell. The world is definitely missing you 🤘
By FAR he had the best grunge voice. RIP to a legend!
Great reaction!
Rest in peace, Chris Cornell. 💔 What an amazing talent.

one of m y favorite albums good call
This is a live recording and sounds just as good as the album.
or even better (or different, so we like to listen to both versions)--
React to Chris Cornell in Temple of the Dog " Say Hello to Heaven " live at the Moore Theater next.
He was also in a band called Temple of the Dog with Eddie Vedder, they had a popular song called Hunger Strike.

Rip Chris

Thank You Chris Cornell RIP
We're all light and dark if you can't accept that you pretty much walk around with a stomach ache 🤘

Fell On Black Days...and just remember...And This To Shall Pass:)
The great ones make it look easy 😎👍👍
Chris was so cool, he could pull off facial hair styles we couldn't dream of wearing.
Check out the SiriusXM version where they do it strip down with just his voice, a guitar and a goddamn cello! It’s incredible.
💚💚💚💚💚
Next Level Pen Game!

Fell on Biz Days.
Real lyrics man as heavy as it is , he felt it
His voice was great in Temple of the Dog's "Mind Riot"
That's off Soundgarden Badmotorfinger.
@@stevenmonte7397 lol... my mistake. I knew that, too. I wore out that CD twice. Cheers.

"Be yourself ", by Adioslave " kickass song 🎵 Chris Cornell ♥️
From this record you can do 4th of July, Black Hole Sun, Spoonman. From Badmotorfinger you can do Rusty Cage and Outshined. There are many greats like Burden In My Hand, Blow the Upside or the classic Hand All Over... list can be long
First time hearing this I really enjoyed it. Thanks Biz
Hunger Strike -Temple of the Dog -brother it is a must!! MUCH LOVE:)
Chris Cornell Nothing Compares 2 U awesome and his cover of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean 👍
Superb for day drinking.
I'm so glad this was the music that was popular in my late teens and early 20's. I'm glad I didn't have to listen to the garbage that's popular today.

No, I don’t believe they are, but everyone processes emotions differently.
One reactor said Aerosmith created grung with their song seasons of wither
The grunge movement brought rock back into our orbit after the crap from the 80s 😅
Temple of the dog? Was that Chris? Somebody holla back
Yes It was I reviewed a song from them
@watchbizmatik I know I could look it up yall but I kinda miss the actual " conversations " about music

Love Soundgarden, love grunge but it didn't last near long enough.

💔RIP Chris Cornell - Please react to 'Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart' (official video).
