Hey noobifier. I'm new to pc gaming let alone star citizen. I've a gaming machine on its way now and I can't wait to get started. Despite that I've been slightly aware of star citizen up to now. But because I'm getting into pc now I started to look more into it. I came across your channel and I've spent a good few days watching and learning. And I've learnt a hell of a lot which has not only kindled an enthusiasm to really get into it but I feel it's prepared me exceptionally well to begin my journey. I for now can't wait to get started and join the community. I suppose I just wanted to say thank you for helping me learn and simplifying a lot for me. I feel like this is something I can get involved in for a long time. Thank you noobifier and thank you everyone involved I'm looking forward to joining you all in about a day or so :)

+1 for using the big 'drill' as a weapon. It's been a lesson that has stuck with me ever since Larry Niven's story of first contact with the Kzinti: everything can be a weapon. In that instance, an unarmed human science vessel destroyed a Kzin battlecruiser - by pointing their photon drive exhaust (aka: huge laser) at them.

Great video but there is one flaw. The Prospector does NOT have refining capabilaties it only seperates the raw ore from useless rock. ( See Prospector Q&A 2) You will have to bring the Raw ore back to a Station to refine it with the Prospector.

This is a good summary. One minor thing, the last I heard from CGI is that they plan to have the small asteroid clusters dynamically spawn, persist for a while, then despawn if there have not been any characters in the local space (i.e. both PC and NPC presence will count) for some amount of time (e.g. probably at least a few hours, maybe several). Therefore the Devs won't need to add and remove them manually as the video seemed to imply.

I currently have a prospector. I don't see myself upgrading platforms, mostly because I like the idea of having a single seater i can use to make credits. To piggy back on your example. Imagine a year into release, things are playing out much as is described in the video, but now most organizations are churning out resources at respectable levels where Hull D's and E's can almost be used. These ships change economies. So as a Prospector pilot, i can snipe out resources with a buddy running a freelancer, or a Hull B/C and turn profits before they get completely obliterated. Or for economic warfare, drive down the prices a few credits to reduce the profits of other orgs who are risking more with larger operations.

Excellently broken down, well explained as always. The thing is that a brand new Orion crew would be well suited to operate under contracts for another company as their experience, contacts and equipment increase or gets better. Another profession that benefits from Mining directly is the Repair and Maintenance profession as better materials the mechanics have the more quality could be produced as a result!

As a cargoing wannabe I hadn't considered getting my stuff from places other than ports. This was quite interesting as usual.
I'm curious to see how difficult it will be getting the goods from a smaller sized mining ship to the transporter/fringe merchant out in space with little to no infrastructure.
_- In other news today, a serial explosion near the illicit mining colony Theta 7 ended up destroying several Hull B's and leaving a Hull C in an irreparable state. We're told security forces and several unregistered vessels are en route to the area._

Thanks for the great information. i think mineing might be my thing also. On the concept of the mineing ship being used as a weapon : if i remember right from a scifi i have seen they called the cutting beams on a mining ship lancers and on the positive side they where some of the strongest lasers around but on the negative side the lasers had a short range.

Except unlike Sitting in a Hulk, A solo pilot wont be running multiple accounts easily with Star Citizens PC requirements, Plus a Hulk can run Solo. These ships to do it correctly actually need crews of players to operate. This isnt like Deploying the Rorqual sending Super Drones out and compressing ore. you would need easily 3-4 people on a ship comparable to the Rorqual if not more.

    • @Scottx125Productions
      @Scottx125Productions 7 лет назад +3

There's a difference, if you have to keep an eye on your ship in case something goes wrong like an explosion from super heated rock, then you need to be aware. The benefit will always be worth it, if its long and boring work to get ore, few people will do it. There fore demand for resources will be higher hence the price will be higher, hence doing boring mining for 1 hour compared to afk mining for 1 hour will produce more profit, meaning you have to do it less. I'd rather be bored for 1 hour and make lots of money, then be afk not playing the game for 10 hours to earn the same profit.

  • @3clipsesc457

Just a reminder.. this video talks about a Pioneer being "the role of the prospector.. the person, not the solo mining ship". Obviously things have changed as we now have a ship that's literally called the "Pioneer" that's attached to a different career and a different industry. Maybe some notes on top of the video could clarify that for viewers. Go to 1:10 for quote.

I remember on my very very old PC (Schneider CPC 6128, of the C64 age), where I played Elite (the first one), you could fit a militray laser and a mining laser to your Cobra MKIII. The Militray Laser shot fast and overheated fast for good damage. The Mining Laser did a huge burst but you couldn't fire it fast. I always used the mining laser for combat there ^^, it was basically pixel shots so hugh rate of fire didn't help much, better to hit once and hard.

I wasn't that interested in mining before, but now it sounds very appealing. However now got so many questions
If I go the solo route, having separate cargo ship like a freelance (haven't done the cargo unit math yet) to go along with my prospector to make one big run sounds good.
    1) Can I spawn more than one ship at a time? Setup an outpost /cargo depot, and my freelancer parked there until it's full?
    2) How do you move cargo between two ships? zero g is one thing ,but do we get like futuristic floating dolly, or mini forklift on the surface.
Mabey I am getting to ahead of the game, or maybe this has been answered before, i am just excited to see what 3.0 will bring .

If I may make a suggestion, the vid focus mainly on running an elite-level operation. I know some casual players who're going to be put off by this, because they have no plans playing on that level. They may get the impression that casual level mining gameplay isn't feasable, contrary to what Roberts have stated. I'd therefor suggest that you devote i bigger portion of the vid to how the career is going to work for the casual player.
    Thanks again :)

Would be epic to see an Orion slowly pivot around and start eating away at an Idris, gouging a deep line across the hull with those mining beams.

Kemoc Tudor while mining beams can do Hull damage, I don't think they're gonna do much damage to ships themselves. Considering combat ship hulls are designed to take both directed energy weapons, and ballistic rounds.

I wonder what happens to those players who one day just decide to act like an idiot and get hired by someone on an orion or something and screw everything up for the ship owner.(sure they might get bad rep etc., but that's not gonna help the ship owner with the situation the idiot has put the owner in) You'll need to have quite a big org to always be able to hire someone (more or less trustworthy and capable of doing the job) and even then you can't always trust everyone tbh (especially in a really big org). Then there's of course the matters of someone disconnecting etc.
The internet is full of trolls and idiots which has lead me to not trusting pretty much anyone which is also a reason why I trust AI more than most of the players, especially when there's going to be more than one tier of AIs.
Anyways good summary and job well done! :)

Im becoming more unsure of what type of game this will be, *Coop/Multiplayer or MMO* ?
With all the different job positions its starting to lean more and more towards an MMO type of game(unless you can hire AI to fill positions), *BUT* with the fancy graphics, the larger the game becomes in the multiplayer perspective, *desync* and *lag* will come back to bite you in the ass and ruin gameplay. *-Concerned Citizen*

+Ondskemannen it is an MMO. It was always from day one described as a first person MMO.

Great indepth video, although solo mining doesn't seem like it will be a thing unless you can have multiple accounts which I doubt you would be even able to run them on a single PC.

There's been next to zero discussion/info about "cargo transfer" so far... I wonder how that's gonna be done. Moving each container one by one? Automated? Drone AI (similar to Astro drones)? I mean if it takes more time to move the cargo to a Hauler, rather than just jump back to civilization, there will be very little "down time".

You might wanna add a star f and star g to your groups, since they can help with refueling your ship so that way you dont wind up being left with down time as you wait for someone to show up to help refuel you, it's best to be with an unnecessary tool than to be without a necessary one. If you know what I mean.

The Prospector can't refine ore, only the Orion can. The Prospector can mine planetside, but the Orion can't.

  • @MannyXVIII
    @MannyXVIII 7 лет назад

If I'm not mistaken the orion has an extra step of refinery that the prospector doesn't... but I cannot remember if it was that you can actually melt the ores down to ingots in an orion to save even more storage space or something else along the line.

If you risk losing the Orion might as well be able to punch a hole in them with that laser. even if it risks damaging the laser.
So excited to get in my Prospector.

I've heard that the Prospector (and most Orion variants) don't actually do refining. They process the ore to some extent, but on-site refining is likely to be limited to a particular variant of the Orion.
Forget where exactly I heard this though - it was one of the Q&A videos done by CIG some time ago (not helpful, I know)
