    I am from Bermuda and wasn't ready to fly so I took advantage of this cruise on July 13th and was my first ever cruise. I fell in love with the ship and the experience of their extremely friendly crew and of course the wonderful food. I loved this so much I booked again for their last cruise on September 17th and stayed in 6013 right next to the cabin you stayed in and loved The Penthouse. I hope to experience one of their River cruises next year, but for now I will have to stay put until then. Thanks for your review.

    Just this afternoon I impulsively booked a 16-night LA-Hawaii-LA December cruise on Viking Orion. I figured it might be the only time that I, a solo traveler, could do a Viking ocean cruise, since they rarely offer reduced single supplements. Enjoyed your video review, especially learning about the planetarium, which I hadn’t read about.

Also a good job of the many features of the Viking Experience. We just got a Viking Health Update Today. Masks will Not be required though out the Ship. A small victory to add to the comfort of this cruise.

      We sail July 23rd. 2023.
      Loved your video, it was very informative… I do like to watch lots of videos and research trips that we do so I know what to expect.
      For the first time ever I have Chosen The lowest category of cabin. The Veranda cabin. When I looked at all the other cruises and river cruises that we have done , Even this lowest category is a larger cabin than we would normally have, so we have decided to risk it. We are not really concerned about having a coffee machine in our cabin, or what time we board the boat, or being the last to get into the specialty dining restaurants etc. We’re not bothered with big shows or daytime bingo etc. The only concern that I had was about getting on excursions. But I don’t think we’ll miss out on anything, we might just not be on the excursion at the time that we might have preferred.
      But we’re pretty easy-going. We enjoy wandering around cruise ships with a coffee, sitting reading, people watching etc. Will enjoy the wine and beer With meals and probably the odd one outside of meals . So we are thinking this might suit us greatly. We were disappointed to have our first Norwegian Cruise cancelled last year. But it was with Princess and a short 8 night one only. The one we have chosen with Viking is about 28 nights, so I think I’m more excited about this cruise than any other we’ve done.
      I have subscribed and will enjoy watching you’re videos. Thank you. … and hints or tips welcome.

    This was very informative. Well laid out. Thank you. I am about to cruise on Viking Orion in Oct from Tokyo to Bangkok. Two questions....1) is the sauna and steam room coed or are they located in each locker room? 2) Is it true that no jeans are allowed in any of the dining venues for dinner....(except for the buffet)? I just heard this from someone today.

    • @CruiseReport
      @CruiseReport  11 месяцев назад

      Sauna and steam are co-ed, but they may have a smaller sauna in each locker room, I can't recall for sure. I know they have a hot tub in each locker room. And yes, jeans are not allowed in the evenings after 6pm (dining).

      I cannot answer that. I know that he told me he really wants to move to Viking's Mississippi River cruises when they launch. Also, I think he works a 6 month contract, so it just depends on how your sailing lines up with his contract.

    My husband and I just returned from the Alaskan cruise on Orion. I can say absolutely nothing negative about the ship, the service, the food. However when we booked this cruise the COVID protocols were in place. When we arrived on the ship the protocols had completely disappeared. Our temps were taken when we boarded and not again. No masks were required and there was no further testing. The majority of the passengers were in the 60-70 age range. By about day 4 of the cruise we noticed a lot of coughing. By the time we disembarked, the ship sounded like a TB ward. So my husband and I (both vaccinated 3 times) were sick on arriving home. I use a state app (covidwise) that tracks COVID exposure and so far I have had 6 exposures from the ship. My anger is that the staff certainly knew of the cases and still did not inform us nor did they change protocols. I feel like it is irresponsible beyond belief that it was handled that way. It would have been simple to at minimum reinstate temp checks. I believe that one hot spot for transmission was the buffet with everyone handling the same serving utensils, and that could have been changed.

      When I was on Orion, the buffet was not self-serve. I hope you recover quickly.

    I’m considering taking my first Viking cruise, and I have a question about the excursions. I understand they are included in the price. It seems like the penthouse passengers have the first opportunity to reserve them. What happens if you are in a standard veranda room and your preferred excursion is booked out and you’re not interested in the others? Do you have to book a similar excursion and pay for it? Could possibly happen at every port?

    • @CruiseReport
      @CruiseReport  2 года назад +2

      Viking does a pretty good job of trying to accommodate as many guests as possible, regardless of your stateroom category. However, it is always possible that your first choice of an excursion may overbook and be unavailable. I would definitely advise booking as soon as you can. Viking will often offer several "included" excursions in each port, so you should be okay. A lot depends on the destination and with Covid, there is no telling what the capacity of the excursions will be.

    Oh. What do they charge if the rest of us wanted to do the room alone. My experience is no cruise line is “alone “ friendly and certainly not half the cost of couples. Since you travel alone at times perhaps a few moment discussing how “we” alone travelers might enjoy your experience and at what cost differential.

    • @erics607
      @erics607 2 года назад

      You pay what you would pay if 2 people were occupying the room. It sucks, but Viking isn't a solo traveler type of cruise unless you have quite a bit of money, or get invited on the ship.

    I have cruised Viking Ocean ships. The food is good to excellent, but not as good as Oceania. The seating arrangements are not comfortable with the proximity of adjacent tables. The service is impersonal and not up to Oceania standards. I would consider the Viking Ocean staterooms to be the best at sea. The ships are excellent and designed well except for the area where tea is served. There is no way for attendants to utilize serving carts. The 3 tiered assortment is usually a waste of food. Viking Ocean has not mastered tendering. Activities on sea days are very limited and do not meet expectations based on other cruises. Included tours are probably a good thing during the Covid era, but I prefer not utilizing ship tours and being in a herd.

    • @CruiseReport
      @CruiseReport  2 года назад +1

      Interesting observations. We have not sailed with Oceania in several years, but have established some new relationships there and hopefully will be sailing with them next year. I look forward to comparing your observations with mine.

    Will Viking be cancelling it's cruises to Russia, given Russia's unprovoked war on Ukraine and it's people, and the immeasurable suffering it has caused? Other cruise lines already have; why hasn't Viking??? I am looking forward to a Romantic Danube cruise in September, but cannot support a company that enriches this murderous regime. Please do the right thing and cancel all cruises to Russia. I will be watching for developments; please don't force me to cancel my cruise. I would encourage all other Viking customers to let Viking know if you share similar views as my own. To all Ukrainians; we support you!
