Really interested in these after watching this. Looking at a second set of open backs to go with my Focal Clear OG. I had sundara, xs edition and nano on radar. Looking at fund me page and cost theres not much $ difference at all in AUD between these 3 and the verum 2 and i do like a bit of bass as I predominantly listen to metal I can listem to most hifiman here at A2A Melbourne so buying verum 2 on reviews alone is nerving. Any thoughts on verum suitability with metal? The clears are great, I would want similar not identical, but definitely greater staging
I've just lent my Verum 2 from the review to a channel Patreon member who loves metal and he's a fan. The bass impact will definitely help to keep those kick drums energetic and fun, and then you can just add one of the ported pads.
@@PassionforSound Thank you for responding, much appreciated. You mention the kick drums and the that gives me confidence as you do want those kick drums being impactful as well as the treble not being harsh. Metal done wrong can be a painful grimacing experience. I think for due diligence I will still listen to the HIFiman stuff and maybe the Patreon member will chime in and share their experience with the Verum 2 also. The Kickstarter ends 31 May, its roughly $650aud for the 2 pad option pack and includes shipping. The risk after that is all on me naturally with any issues I may encounter and warranty. Another consideration. But right now they are high on the list. Thanks again mate.
I love ATA in Melb - I’ve spent hours there listening to cans and I’m a massive Hifiman fan!I I have had Edition XS and did love them and have listened to pretty much every Hifiman open-back set to date. I now have HEK Stealths and for me, are one of the best headphones on the planet right now. I'll get to sound soon but the Verum 2s look great and feel very comfortable (although they can pull hair when removing so be aware of this). The supplied XLR cable is akin to the VHS players from the 80's (remember the yellow, red and white RCAs?). Update your cable. For $650 with 2 pads (ask to get magnet ring supplied in both pads as changing ring was a pain (I thought I was going to rip outer lip, but I didn't Lachlan haha), these are bloody good headphones. As Lachlan said, I’m 75% metal and 25% hard rock, with a love for Power and Speed metal so it’s hard to get cans to handle the frenetic pace without getting “muddled”. I’ve listened to $5k Dynamic drivers that can’t separate the instruments at speed and let me tell you, these Plananrs can easily! Through the Fire and Flames doesn’t get squished together. The drums, Herman’s guitar, keys and bass are all there and separated well. They sound great both on a good solid state amp and both of my OTC tube amps. They aren’t bass monsters but certainly have enough for me (being a bass-head) and the ported bass pads definitely add warmth and more bass (listen to Bobby Bass - these go low with the bass pads). The stock pads have a little brighter sound but have a fraction extra detail because of this but you could use stock pads and then EQ a bit off bass added. You’d keep the treble detail by doing this (but on many tracks with bass pads, I don’t feel that I’m losing detail from the stock pads - just noticing this as I listen now). But they aren’t in any way too treble heavy and in fact, bass, mids and treble are all tuned well. Soundstage is good (Edition XS is bigger but I prefer the sound on these) as is timbre (they sound natural). Honestly, for $650, these are excellent cans. I have a few sets of different headphones so don’t “need” any more but If I didn’t, I would buy these in an instant. IMO, these are way better than Sundaras, better than Edition XS and could probably compete with or even surpass cans over $1k. And it goes without saying (but I will anyway) that the better the chain you have, the better these will sound. They scale very well!!! Hope this helps,
@@andrewkateb hey man, thank you heaps, this certainly helps, I listen Dragonforce too but am more into Thrash and Death Metal, old and new but really TBH listen to all genres. My other open backs are Focal Clear, I really enjoy them, I would like a bit wider staging hence the chase for another set of open backs. I am yet to listen to the HifiMan Sundara, XS Edition or Nano, but in your opinion do the Verum 2 cast a wider sound stage than those? If so then when I listen to them I know what I am mentally comparing too. Cheers! and thanks to Lachlan for loaning them to you and for your input! .....If I order and its looking more and more likely, I'll keep my hair tied back 😂and I'll ask for two sets of rings thanks for the heads up!! 👍
Update to my comment. Oratory released his EQ for the Ananda Nano. Wow. They sound so much more engaging, musical, smoother and truly impressive. I still have my eye on the Verum 2. But wow. A EQd Ananda Nano is extremely hard to beat. Give Oratorys EQ for the Nano a try. It makes them $600 endgame
I was really surprised you didn't compare to the Sundara, which I currently have. My only issue with them is they could use a little more bass. Sounds like these would probably not be a step up but would have loved a direct comparison, especially considering how many people have them and the similar price point.
The Verum 1 replaced the Sundara for me so that's why no Sundara comparison. If you like more bass than Sundara, though (and I get it because so do I), then these will be too lean for you, I think.
I just backed the kickstarter for the verum 2. My first time backing an indiegogo campaign left me in the red $800 after having to sell the product I received for parts. This is my second time backing a project and I hope it works out.
I hope so too, but I'm also fairly confident in this one. It's the second time he's making a product and we already have solid, fully working units with no production/design flaws. I'm pretty sure this Kickstarter is just to cover the costs of large scale production.
Im personally having a very hard time deciding between the verum 1 and 2. The blatant better performance pushes me towards the verum 2 but I also intend on making this purchase to enjoy listening to music for hours on end as well as music production. I don’t want to be ear fatigued after an hour, sorta kinda love bass and would like to be able to use them for general media consumption and gaming. I’m considering the 1s for the warmer sound but hate the idea of paying the same for less extreme hardware. Both are a steal for the price to performance but idk what do you think?
The Verum 2 isn't fatiguing or u enjoyable - just not quite as easy going, but a quick pad-roll could probably change that. It's a hard decision to guide you on beyond that, but I do think you'll be very happy regardless of the direction you choose.
Got the Verum 1 as a Christmas gift. They didnt arrive until feb because Igor is a one man operation... back ordered. They sound quite great... now I have to get a pair of the 2 to compare, also, Ill take the 1 to the office and enjoy there. Thanks for this review.
NOOO I don't want to know this because I am perfectly happy with my Verum 1s. Make that "was"... But seriously, the V1s are more than good enough for my 63-year-old ears and I figure they are probably end game for me. And as for the controversy, the guy has apologized and it seems sincere to me. He does seem to have learned and grown in the last few years. How long should we continue to punish him?
I agree. If someone can't apologise and be forgiven (while demonstrating the necessary changes in behaviour), then how can anyone ever learn and grow? As for the Verum 1 vs Verum 2, the V1s are still wonderful so sit back and enjoy the tunes! 🙂🙂
There is no forgiveness or redemption in the minds of those whose personal meaning in life is derived from finding and superficially attacking "the bad" while actually doing nothing of value. He said really dumb things, but all evidence supports him getting past it and the apology was as good as it gets really.
The Verum 1's are my go to headphones. To me they just sound so natural with no real emphasis anywhere in the spectrum. Voices just sound so natural. Just love the looks of them. They look like something Leonardo Da Vinci would design and Conan the Barbarian would use! 😆 Just came to the realization that the verum 2's were an option and may have to get some.
Super review, you didn't miss any important details!. now I'm waiting for my pair of V2's impressive the way they progress with the production despite the war.
V1 was easily the best sub $500 headphone at the time of its release. Excited for V2. Although I have the Meze 109 pros now and for me it’s unbeatable. Tried almost everything till $1500 and like Meze the best.
@@electroelysium2281 Yep, got rid of all my expensive headphones because I genuinely enjoyed 109s more. And it was lighter and more comfortable than others.
It's a tricky one, this. There is no doubt that the Verum Ones were an astonishing achievement by Igor, and that achievement deserves celebration. We should absolutely be encouraging start ups in the hifi world. But... The subsequent issues were very much of his own making. Perhaps the stress of setting up a company at great personal financial risk got to him. And now, of course, working in a war zone. Perhaps not. Some of his views, unpleasant though they are, are not unusual in the former Eastern Europe. However, he has apologised and as far as I know has not repeated his behaviour. I wouldn't presume to get inside his head. So on a personal basis I feel he deserves a break, and I have pre ordered a pair. I sold my Verum Ones and almost immediately regretted it. I have never heard headphones with a more open presentation and soundstage. I wish him every success and hope he can be welcomed back into the community. After all, being a bit of a dick has never disqualified people in the past...
Thank you for taking (and sharing) such a balanced stance on this, Jim. I view the situation very similarly and chose to not raise the issues of the past in this video because I believe we all need the chance for forgiveness when we mess up. I hope you love the Verum 2s and I think you will.
This is Igor's second time around. I don't see why he'd do that when he had success last time and didn't bail. Also, if it works so well, he could just do it again, bigger and better for Verum 3.
A pond WARNING to anyone planning to purchase products from this "company"! They are SCAMMERS, they sent me defective goods (Verum 1 with a broken right ear driver and non-working cable) They DEMANDED (!) from me a video in which I condemn the actions of the rysski army and their attack on Ukraine and shortly after my question they stopped responding to messages (while responding to other people with a different e-mail address)! The warranty is non-existent, they DO NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY at all, the person has a disgusting attitude full of racism, xenophobia, homophobia, and God knows what else! This person has been BANNED ON 3 (YES, THREE!) audio-related forums for MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF FRAUD, INSULTS, RACISM, AND SO ON. Please, use Google to find more info on that scammer. I strongly recommend to AVOID THEM AND DO NOT SUPPORT THEIR SCUMMY ACTIONS! DONATE TO THE UKRAINIAN ARMY DIRECTLY INSTEAD! Their e-mails usually are: Verum audio marina isikova Please upvote for other people to see! And no, I am not rysski and do not live there either. I just think that for this behavior people should go to jail instead. And when the war is over, a lawsuit will be filed against him and his company.
Yes, as the other gentleman said we choose at a later date, as for color, all my other headphones are black, so I think I'm gonna go with a bright color.
Dual 3.5mm, but I'm not sure if mono or stereo. I can tell you that the headphones work with any alternative 3.5mm cables I've plugged into them so I don't think it matters which you use. I tend to use Apos Flow cables with them most often.
@@PassionforSound Thanks for the reply - much appreciated!! Wasn't sure as I couldn't see a picture of the cable end to cup anywhere. Mono has ground/tip (2 sections), stereo has ground/ring/tip (3 sections), balanced or mic cable has 4.
@@PassionforSound They got back to me so I can confirm.... "3.5mm connectors in cups. I use stereo connectors in mono mode (one wire is not soldered). So you can use any mono or stereo 3.5mm connector)" Hope that helps anyone looking at their own custom cables.
It looks like these perform very similar to the Ananda Stealth overall. The Ananda Nano had a bit too much bite in the trebble for me so I stuck with the stealth, as they were a little more tame in this category. The one thing I see that I like about the verum that I just can't do as easily on the Ananda is pad rolling. I love pad rolling, as I find that it is easier to find the exact sound I am looking for, but man it is not fun on the Ananda. This video may be the reason I buy a pair, but they are just so close to the Ananda Stealth I'm just not sure it would be a real upgrade.
Yeah, I don't think they're an upgrade over the Anandas so much as an alternative so it depends on how much you want to pad roll as to whether they're worth it.
@@PassionforSoundExcellent point! No release yet according to his recent updates. Self correction: it was end of page 5 and for less knowledgeable folks sbaf = super best audio friends (i dont like abbreviations that aren't obvious, might as well use that opportunity: I call them sennheiser best audio friends due to their worship of HD 600 and 650 😊 )
I have my Verum 1 MKll for few months now. I use XBass on my IFi portable DAC and te bass is now perfect for me. I will wait for the Verum 3 that I am sure they will be lots lots better haha. It never stop.
But are you sure that he will then send the headphones? are you aware that this has the headphone factory in a state at war? What if they bomb the factory? I inform you that a person (in Italy) placed an order for the first model, and after months of waiting in which they didn't even respond to his emails, they told him that the headphones had been sent. but he never received it. and when he asked for a refund they told him that if it was lost it wasn't their fault and he was screwed.then receiving the headphones becomes just a stroke of luck? Why do customers lose everything if they get lost during shipping? so you trust these people without having any guarantee?
I can only discuss the experiences I've had or directly heard of from the person who experienced it. Small companies often have issues early on and will learn from them (or go bust), but if you're uncomfortable buying from them, you shouldn't.
It's sounds great tbh, it's just sad that it's made by a dude thats threatened multiple reviewers. Also he has screwed over a bunch of people on qc and warranty issues. So yeah hard pass on that one, though the verum 1 controversy was pretty interesting tbh.
@@VerumAudio There's a lot of people (or a few loud ones) that have huge problems with you from years ago and they're not interested in reasoning of any kind especially about facts. I've tried a few times and it seems to be a waste of time.
After I ordered a pair of V1 Mk2 and listened to them, I instantly made an order for another pair. That's how good they are to me. I can't wait to listen to VERUM2. Great review, as always! Cheers!
@@PassionforSound Thanks for the fab review. After I watched it until the end, I knew I would. The changes over V1 are stellar complements. I have a bunch of TOTL headphones, and Verum is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. It's just a fantastic creation, from the sound to the design and comfort! You are a gem, too, Lachlan, in the reviewers' world! Cheers!
Hi Lachlan, is it just me going crazy or does that mic maybe a too-good a job of picking up your mid-sentence micro in-breaths? I agree with you reply on the previous video, much better settings on this but still not as good as your Blue Encore. I think the previous setup with this M70 made me overlook the boosted in-breaths but, going back they are there. I had to go back to the last video with the Blue, again specifically listening for those in-breaths, and they are there but not boosted, and very natural sounding. If you target-listen specifically you can find them but they feel appropriate, whereas with the M70 I perceive them as artificially elevated and "in your face". Overall, an interesting experiment. Do you have any plans to make a video on your mic journey at some point? P.S. I am not implying you should consider any change to your delivery style, just observing the difference in how the 2 mics respond. But I guess the thought will now be in your head... like asking a golfer if they breath in or out on their up-swing JUST as they're about to take a shot :D
😂 I love that analogy! I think I removed the compression and gating on this video to try and improve the sound. I normally have a light gate on my audio to keep the in-breaths silent, but you're right that some mics pick it up more than others.
@PassionforSound can you please confirm the details for the stereo cable it uses for the connection to the ear pieces. Eg main is 6mm stereo male and each ear is 3.5mm male (mono/balanced??)
Sorry - did I not mention or show that in the video? I normally do. It's a 3.5mm into each earcup. I forget the amp connectors, but I'm pretty sure that's discussed in the video when I talk about the cable quality.
Hi Lachlan. Great review, thank you. I'm new to wired headphones and have ordered a pair through Kickstarter. One thing puzzling me is how best to drive the Verum 2? I note you say a dongle will be fine but I'm wondering how much 'better' a desktop dac/amp might be compared to a good dongle. Confusion reigns and any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
I'm glad you liked the review and great choice on the Verum 2! As for driving them, a higher quality source is always better so desktop will beat portable for the same $$. What budget are you working with?
@@PassionforSound Hello, thanks for replying. Budget wise I think I'd likely go for around £1K max but preferably less! Plenty time to get organised though plus this will be my first venture into headphone world so it's all new to me just now.
For that money, you could get a Mojo 2 and use that for desktop and portable use. It will be amazing with the Verums. Alternatively, a Geshelli J2S with the AK4499 chip and then a nice amp like a Geshelli A3 Pro would also be excellent.
@@PassionforSound Thanks Lachlan. I've been checking the Mojo2/Poly out and like what I'm reading. I'll research the Geshellis you suggest. Many thanks again.
This really helped for a current decision... will wait until I can buy the 2's and with buy the Ananda Stealth as my B headphones to the Ananda Nano... then of course buy the 2's later on as another edition to other headphones to mix on... do not see the point in the 1's
@@PassionforSound I will the the 1’s later on to review them and give them a shot… but currently the purchase is a little more financially urgent to get the right one right away. Currently with the Hifiman Nano’s and Organics. Then want to give this company its light. There was a few failings as a company with the 1’s and hope he’s simply growing and maturing as a company. The original return policies were convoluted but as a single person in a country at war he didn’t really have the option to allow frivolous returns. Then got a little too shity with one reviewer. But, there’s a far greater number of happy people. Plus he was very good with me when messaging and figuring out what to do. He only used review opinions to answer my questions so I do think he’s giving to much understanding to reviewers rather than having he’s own opinion. Because I was looking for a studio headphone he of course thought as only the 1’s got studio reviews that it was the only one good for studios. This of course is a logical fallacy. It’s why I’ve opted for the Nano’s as my main critical listening headphones… you have to not obsess over details with them, because they has a ‘s’ effect to vocals so you have to mind not over de-ess-ing a vocal, but this is what other headphones are for. Finding the VSX and Fiio PT1’s great bigger picture headphones. I’m mostly headphones because I one can’t afford at least 4K on acoustics just yet to even warrant cheap speakers and I do not think I’d be allowed to put up acoustics where I’m at currently… so headphones it is for me for now
Hello Passion for Sound. I just discovered your channel and this video. Thank you for uploading such a wonderful video. As someone looking for a new pair of headphones, I can honestly say you ALMOST have me sold on these Verum 2's. Almost, because I have one very important question. How do these Verum 2 cans compare to the Beyer Dynamics DT 880's? I have owned my DT 880's for, gosh...15 years now? And I still love 'em but unfortunately the cabling has suffered which now results in the sound cutting out intermittently. Pretty sad but it's time to let 'em go and I need a new set of cans. So, are the Verum 2's better or worse than the DT 880's in your opinion? I listen mostly to 80's alt rock and trance.
I own the black, limited/special edition of the DT880s and the Verum 2s are way better from a technical standpoint. However, they don't have the bass (or the v-shaped tuning) that the DT880s have.
Sort of and not really. It does offer excellent speed and resolution at its price, but the Verum 2 is never going to match the sheer speed of a ribbon driver. On the other hand, the ribbons can never deliver the sense of impact or tactility that planars can.
I didn't compare directly because I feel like the Ananda Nano vs Verum 2 was about the point where the competition started to level out. The Organic is better than the Nano so I suspect it's also better than the Verum 2 (not accounting for preferences around tonality)
They're pretty easy to drive, especially with a self-powered device that's not relying on USB power from a smartphone. The 5k has its own battery IIRC so should be good.
Hi Latchan amazing review as always looking for your advice I’m trying to decide I have the awesome Verum 1 how better are the Verum 2 in % I’m interested in the new Sennhieser HD 490 pro I know one is planar and the other dynamic but what would be your choice thank you again for your work.
I can't really say anything more than I already have in this review. Other than the tonality (which is preferential and tuneable with pads), the Verum 2 is hands down better than the Verum 1.
Very important question, can they play "Bass Boy - I Love Big Speakers (ft. Techmaster P.E.B.)", or "Béla Fleck & The Flecktones - Flight of The Cosmic Hippo"? I listened to the Sennheiser HD660S2 recently and was sorely unimpressed with how they played those songs. In case the songs I'm asking about simply can't be played properly on open backs, which are the best closed back headphones?
pb3662, people are comparing Verum 2's to really expensive headphones, there is a guy who compared them to LCD-X on the forum somewhere and says they are pretty close overall, on youtube there are people comparing them to 3-5k headphones such as LCD 5 and saying they arent much worse, they arent blown by audeze lcd 5 compared to verum 2, so I believe if they are not lying, verum 2's would be really close to lcd x and such priced headphones, there wouldnt be any logic in buying headphones that cost 500 euros from Ukraine waiting 6 months to get them if there was no reward for that waiting and risk of war.
Anyone want to describe to someone totally blind how to change the pads on these? That's the problem I have with so many headphone makers! They make swapping pads ridiculously more complicated than it needs to be.
I'll see if I can help... The pads themselves just pull off the face of the headphone (they're held on only by magnets) Once the pad is off, you can feel inside the back of the pad for a metal ring that sits under a lip of soft plastic. Pull out that ring because you'll need that for the replacement pads. Feel your way around the new pads to slide the metal ring under the lip on the back of the new pads until it's fully held inside the lip. Finally, place the new pads against the face of the headphones so the magnets can grab and hold them in place. Just be sure to line up the pads properly if they're angled so that the narrow sides of the pads face to the front of the headphones. I'm not sure how you'd identify the left and right side on the Verum 2 (I don't recall any tactile markings of left/right) so you might need to get someone to help you place a marker of some sort.
Very low sub-bass, pretty low bass, big dip in the upper mids - these look terrible. It's the opposite sound signature to what most listeners prefer. It's like the reverse Harman curve. Were you paid to say this nonsense?
Although i hate the heat you are getting for reviewing these headphones because you obviously have good will, I love that consumers here do draw a firm line for what gets traction in todays market when the producers of said products lack integrity or exploit . And, of course, it is optimistic to think one or two desenters could make a difference, but imo such optimism is to be encouraged. No doubt a great product, though, as i think you know your business.
It's definitely an interesting situation. If the behaviours of the past are still going on, then I do not endorse, support or accept them in any way. However, as far as I know, those issues are in the past and so I chose to focus on the product and its merits only for this video. They are definitely an outstanding headphone IMO. I hope that the person behind them is indeed continuing to learn and grow at the same time as he is making these products. 🙂
Thank you man i was waiting for your review 😄, the only thing that probably not going to like from this headphones is bass 😬, i am looking for something mid and treble focus and really spacious and i think this is the best option 🤘🏻
I love the people that use their child slave labor devices to complain on the internet about things. No one has a leg to stand on regarding evil practices or companies if they live in the modern world, head in sand protests are amusing.
Thanks for the review. It's important to focus on the product alone sometimes instead of backstories. Products like these move the market and design forward and can be an inspiration for smaller companies to learn what to do in terms of design and what not to do with customer service and PR. I personally wouldn't buy this due to questionable warranty services but glad you covered it as many reviewers may not. Hope smaller companies can take designs like this forward. Cheers.
Thanks for the balanced take on the topic. I think it's also important for us to give small companies a chance to learn from mistakes. I get that some might not want to buy from them yet, but others will and that creates the chance for a company to show that they've improved (or not).
@@PassionforSound I mean besides poor customer service, the guy behind it has said some questionable things, and was very rude to costumers that had legitimate reasoning. I don't doubt its a great headphone, but I don't want to support something like that. Loved your empyrean 2 review, I am a meze diehard, just for comfort alone, I love my elites and recently picked up the 2nd gen of the lirics. If I cannot wear something all day, its not even a consideration for me, I think I am spoiled. I love your reviews, and the calm presentation is spectacular.
I think each person needs to decide for themselves whether or not to buy from Verum Audio. I deliberately focussed the review entirely on the product so as not to get into the "personal" side of things, but I respect each person's right to make that decision. 🙂
I LOVE my verum 1 cans ..as enjoyable and technical and comfortable as my HE1V2 at three times the price. As far as all the snowflakes commenting on the politics, etc. This channel is about the product.... period. Go cry elsewhere.
Not a bad pick. I'd go for Sundara, Edition XS and HE6se V2 before, but outside of Hifiman the MM-100 is surprisingly good for the price and build quality.
@@hartyewh1 tbh… I wouldn’t buy any chinese brand thats known for poor QC if there are alternatives in the same price range. I know Hifiman has surprisingly good aftersales, but this doesn’t justify expecting things to break or be faulty.
@@henryt9731 The QC issues are far more from about 5 years ago than current. I know a store owner who sells them and the warranties are lower than with some brands now at least.
Thank you for a great review and giving us a heads up on such a terrific value. Forgive our country's overreactions. For a long time we've been trained to replace real morality with sensitivity and victim indoctrination. In other words, we have a large group of our population who will roll on the floor in agony over a perceived slight, yet care less about truly horrific things that are being put into law. A man once told me "remember, gold in the hands of a thief is still gold." I didn't really understand that until I got older. I can't believe what $400 can buy here. Thanks again!
I cover products based on my experience with them and have had no issues with the Verum 1s over years of use. It's also very common for businesses to require faulty products be sent back to the place of manufacture, whether USA (Schiit), England (Chord), China (HiFiMan ), etc.
@@PassionforSound Apologies, I worded it strongly. I understand why you would cover headphones, and I don't want to be piling on you for providing good, free information. Even if the company is controversial.
Oh no! Maybe you can pick up a secondhand pair if someone decides they don't like them once they get them. Or maybe try to contact Verum Audio through the Kickstarter site.
Liked. Verum's goal, as stated on their Kickstarter page, "Goal for Verum 2 is: "one of the best headphones regardless price range"" Given that you compared to the Ananda Nano which is nice but nothing close to the 'best headphone regardless price range,' I take that the Verum 2 is very good for the $ but not quite as amazing as the stated goal? Thanks.
I think it all depends on your exact interpretation of the goal and what "one of the best" really means. I don't think it can match $1000+ headphones, but it's excellent and competitive with anything below that mark IMO
Wow that graph looks great for the price , kinda impressed. I just dislike the whole paying to send them to Ukraine if there are issues. My Verum 1s were great for a week then I got a bad channel imbalance, but again, I went into the purchase knowing that the Verum1s were a first attempt and handmade.
All units with channel imbalance are still repaired by me for free. The only thing I ask - unscrew cups and send them to Ukraine. It was really design mistake in first batch. And lesson learned.
@@PassionforSound I think Zach doesn't want dms reviewing his products because the omega is a zmf without an expensive build or materials. I would assume it SHOULD be pretty damn good.
@@PassionforSound it's the only explanation I can think of that would be detrimental to his sales, yes I dont own a business but he's the only one that doesn't want him reviewing his products. Zach's been slower to get gear to me lately too so I don't know how long this "embargo" with DMS has been going on for, but if it's recent, it could simply be a sign of how busy ZMF are. Just speculating - I have no idea

Hmmmm... I haven't compared, but I think the Verum 2 is about the same overall size so that might be a challenge for you. (I can't confirm because I've lent the Verum 2s to a channel Patreon member)

Having looked in to the guy that makes these, it feels shameful to have even made a review on this product. I can only assume you weren’t aware of what kind of person he is, though I feel like that’s something to look in to before making a video promoting his product like this
Please elaborate, so potential customers know what kind of person they are buying from (e.g. I decided not to buy from Tekton after learning more about the owner and his legal threats toward reviewers).
If it's a great product then it's worth reviewing and even promoting. Even if the guy is indeed an a-hole he is portrayed to be, he is not a monster or even criminal. If no one suffers from this I don't what is so horribly unethical about it. But quite on the contrary, everyone wins from this. If we cancelled the fruits of talent and labour of each and every person who couldn't be deemed a shining paragon of virtue, the exact notion of it ever-changing, everyone would have been worse off and humanity would be in a terrible place in general.
The headphone maker has made a bunch of racist comments publicly. No way I could ever support or forgive that type of behavior. Plenty of other headphones out there not made by racists
Really interested in these after watching this. Looking at a second set of open backs to go with my Focal Clear OG. I
had sundara, xs edition and nano on radar. Looking at fund me page and cost theres not much $ difference at all in AUD between these 3 and the verum 2 and i do like a bit of bass as I predominantly listen to metal
I can listem to most hifiman here at A2A Melbourne so buying verum 2 on reviews alone is nerving.
I'll see if I can get him to come and comment 🙂
I love how EQ can often make headphones sound $1000 better.
Until they stop working or the headband fails in 2 years time
I was really surprised you didn't compare to the Sundara, which I currently have.
How is the timbre of Verum2? Same Metalic sheen/artifact as low end Hifiman? And also how it performs on vocal songs (natural tone)?
The timbre is excellent. Nothing metallic or artificial about it to my ears.
So glad you're enjoying them! Hope you like the V2 even more (and I'm pretty sure you will!)
I preferred my Verum One over all the $1K Hifimans (Hek Stealth, Ananda and Arya Stealth, which I sold/returned). All the headphone you need imo.
The Verums are really excellent
The Verum 1's are my go to headphones. To me they just sound so natural with no real emphasis anywhere in the spectrum. Voices just sound so natural. Just love the looks of them. They look like something Leonardo Da Vinci would design and Conan the Barbarian would use! 😆 Just came to the realization that the verum 2's were an option and may have to get some.
Haha. I like that combo of designers/test users!
Thanks for nice review! I have Arya v2 and seems like Verum 2 won’t be an upgrade, right?
I think those two are about on par but with different tunings.
Super review, you didn't miss any important details!. now I'm waiting for my pair of V2's impressive the way they progress with the production despite the war.
I'm glad you liked the review. You'll love the V2s!
V1 was easily the best sub $500 headphone at the time of its release. Excited for V2. Although I have the Meze 109 pros now and for me it’s unbeatable. Tried almost everything till $1500 and like Meze the best.
Yep. I'm with you on that one!
Meze 109 are a godsend. I've got 2k$ headphones and I still wear my 109 daily.
I do wonder if the $ raised approaches half a mil if there may be temptation to walk.... I've seen this before. But only time will reveal. Thanks.
This is Igor's second time around. I don't see why he'd do that when he had success last time and didn't bail. Also, if it works so well, he could just do it again, bigger and better for Verum 3.

I ordered a pair yesterday, it was off the Kickstart platform. Delivery is November time frame.
Congratulations! I hope you love them. Which colour did you choose?
@@PassionforSoundI think we get to choose when Campaign Ends at the end of May. Im going with Pearl I think.
That's the colour I like too!
Yes, as the other gentleman said we choose at a later date, as for color, all my other headphones are black, so I think I'm gonna go with a bright color.
Hey mate, can you please confirm the cables used for connection to the ear cups. I am guessing they are 3.5mm male but mono/stereo/?
So you can use any mono or stereo 3.5mm connector)"
Hope that helps anyone looking at their own custom cables.
@pb3662 thank you for sharing this with the community!
On the sbaf forum review thread on page 6 there is a mention of retuning the sound of the Verum 2 due to people's feedback.
Wow. Hopefully he doesn't change them mid-life without a clear new version delineation
I'm aware of horrid behavior and stupid things he said in 2021, but haven't heard anything about warranty issues. I'll try to look that up.

Hm, threatening multiple reviewers? Can you tell me names?)

@@hartyewh1 you're absolutely right. Era of post-truth
After I ordered a pair of V1 Mk2 and listened to them, I instantly made an order for another pair. That's how good they are to me. I can't wait to listen to VERUM2.
Great review, as always! Cheers!
You're going to love them, I think!
Cheers!
@@LillyAugustaCall me nosy, but may I ask why you bought two pairs? For playing quadrophonic tracks? 😉
Hey Lachlan, is Verum 2 a good matching headphone with LAiV harmony DAC/ HP2A?
It would make a lovely pairing, I think.
You audiophiles are ridiculous. 😂
@@RadoDani hater alert
@@timkelmer1268 But he is right.
I was hoping for a mention of the ETA Audio Ada headphones. Maybe a completely different concept but it's also a very competitive price competitor.
I've actually just reviewed the Ada separately, but I didn't compare them because they're so different in terms of style, size, etc. 🙂
Any chance you could compare these to the SJY Horizons? Not the same price class, totally get that.
I don't have the Horizons to compare - sorry!
@@PassionforSound And apologies for multiple comments. RUclips "lost" it at first then they both re-appeared a few hours later.
Random question - what is your favourite headphone stand for these?
I don't own them so I can't answer that...
I would be really interested in what do you think on the Fiio FT5, first planars from Fiio
I'm trying to get my hands on more FiiO gear, but so far haven't gotten to try their headphones.
This really helped for a current decision... will wait until I can buy the 2's and with buy the Ananda Stealth as my B headphones to the Ananda Nano... then of course buy the 2's later on as another edition to other headphones to mix on... do not see the point in the 1's
Unless you specifically want the slightly warmer tonality of the Verum 1, I don't see the point either. Glad I could help you decide.
@@PassionforSound it’s primarily for studio use, so details are essential
I’m mostly headphones because I one can’t afford at least 4K on acoustics just yet to even warrant cheap speakers and I do not think I’d be allowed to put up acoustics where I’m at currently… so headphones it is for me for now
@TheSakuraGumiLTD they'll be great for that!
Thank you sir!
Is the verum2 close to raal sr1a ?
Sort of and not really. It does offer excellent speed and resolution at its price, but the Verum 2 is never going to match the sheer speed of a ribbon driver. On the other hand, the ribbons can never deliver the sense of impact or tactility that planars can.
Please review aune ar5000
I'll see if I can get my hands on a pair
How does it compare to the Arya organic?
I didn't compare directly because I feel like the Ananda Nano vs Verum 2 was about the point where the competition started to level out. The Organic is better than the Nano so I suspect it's also better than the Verum 2 (not accounting for preferences around tonality)
Really wish I could demo, they're too expensive for the risks
Thanks for review and valuable feedback!
My pleasure! Thanks for the chance to try them!!
Can these be driven off a phone or a portable setup like Qudelix 5K?
They're pretty easy to drive, especially with a self-powered device that's not relying on USB power from a smartphone. The 5k has its own battery IIRC so should be good.
I run the Verum 1's with the Qudelix on my laptop with absolutely no problem, plenty of volume and no issues.
Thanks for confirming!
Yea. If you guys find a place to order the battery let me know.
I'm yet to get my hands on the 490 Pro so I can't say as yet - sorry!
Thank you for the reply so much and in the other hand how much better is the Verum 2 over the Verum 1 ?
I can't really say anything more than I already have in this review. Other than the tonality (which is preferential and tuneable with pads), the Verum 2 is hands down better than the Verum 1.
Thanks for the great review !Are these a bit lean ie not as full sounding as the MK 2
They're a tiny bit leaner, but also more refined so I actually enjoy them more despite generally preferring extra warmth/body.
Thanks ! So it’s not sibilant can I say?
Yes. They're not at all sibilant because the treble quality is so good.
I suspect you'd be happy with how these manage those tracks. Planar drivers (these) perform quite differently to dynamic drivers (HD660S).
Nice review thank you! I hesitate to upgrade my edition XS to Arya stealth (now 750$) or this… any comparaison to Arya stealth? Thanks!
I don't have the Arya Stealth anymore, but I think they are probably very slightly better. Sorry I can't give you more specifics.
Any thoughts vs Audeze LCD-X (2021)?
I'm yet to get my hands on the LCD-X. ☹️
pb3662, people are comparing Verum 2's to really expensive headphones, there is a guy who compared them to LCD-X on the forum somewhere and says they are pretty close overall, on youtube there are people comparing them to 3-5k headphones such as LCD 5 and saying they arent much worse, they arent blown by audeze lcd 5 compared to verum 2, so I believe if they are not lying, verum 2's would be really close to lcd x and such priced headphones, there wouldnt be any logic in buying headphones that cost 500 euros from Ukraine waiting 6 months to get them if there was no reward for that waiting and risk of war.
Anyone want to describe to someone totally blind how to change the pads on these? That's the problem I have with so many headphone makers! They make swapping pads ridiculously more complicated than it needs to be.
I'll see if I can help...
The pads themselves just pull off the face of the headphone (they're held on only by magnets)
Once the pad is off, you can feel inside the back of the pad for a metal ring that sits under a lip of soft plastic.
Thank you for the response. I am seriously thinking about getting these. They sound amazing.
I see that you have been testing other mics. You should try the Audio-Technica AT897 shotgun mic. For the price, its so good.
Thanks for the tip!
@@PassionforSound Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of drama focussed trolls in the audio community.
Thank you man i was waiting for your review 😄, the only thing that probably not going to like from this headphones is bass 😬, i am looking for something mid and treble focus and really spacious and i think this is the best option 🤘🏻
If you want great mids and spacious sound, these are perfect! You can easily pad roll for the bass you're after. 🙂
Wellllll I love the Nano, but damnnnnnnnnnn!!! You got me interested hahaha 😁👍. Keeping my eye on the Verum 2
The best bag for buck planar for me are the Audeze mm-100 😅
I'm yet to try those, but would love to
Not a bad pick.
@@hartyewh1 Very good taste there mate.
Glad I could help!
I'm disappointed you even covered these. Since the creator didn't bother honoring warranties and is a huge piece, this is a hard pass.
I always honor warranty. But to honor it in most cases headphones should be sent to Ukraine.
@^%#&@*Q#! I found out about these too late and missed the Kickstarter cause I really want the (Kickstarter only) Green model! 😿
This vs mod house tungsten ds and dms omega.
I'm pretty sure the Tungstens will be well ahead (I'll be able to confirm soon). Not sure if I'll be able to get the Omega, but we'll see...
@@PassionforSound I think Zach doesn't want dms reviewing his products because the omega is a zmf without an expensive build or materials. I would assume it SHOULD be pretty damn good.
That doesn't sound like Zach's style to me
@@PassionforSound it's the only explanation I can think of that would be detrimental to his sales, yes I dont own a business but he's the only one that doesn't want him reviewing his products. Surely it's competitive with their products sound wise like the Tungsten is competitive with the Susvara. Unless it's just another aurorus audio like product.
Zach's been slower to get gear to me lately too so I don't know how long this "embargo" with DMS has been going on for, but if it's recent, it could simply be a sign of how busy ZMF are. Just speculating - I have no idea
DMS said Verum fails horribly on sound quality. Maybe he was using the wrong headphone cable lmao 🤣 😂 🤣 😂
I think there might be more to DMS' opinions on the Verums than just their sonic performance.
DMS told me if Tesla ever becomes a household name, he leave the planet. Very conflicted he is..
Think I'll take a chance and blow cash on arya stealth now that they're $750.
They're a great headphone at that price
Danny GR Research has made yellow his colour. He has yellow Verum 2s along with his yellow sports car.
Now Lachlan has some red Verum 2s. Will red be his colour? Will we soon see Lachlan driving around in a nice red sports car.
No. My last car was red, I've got a white one now and no plans to change it for quite a while 🙂
@@PassionforSound don't you think it would be cool to be driving a red sports car with your red headphones?
@@PassionforSound re-paint headphones will be much more simple 😂
@@PassionforSound so all you need now is some white paint and a fine paint brush.
It was a very helpful video. Thanks!
My pleasure!
as a proud owner of both Verum one and 660s2 my preference is without a doubt VERUM !
The sense of space, dynamics, energy, bass and bigger size of images is so much preferable on Verum.
I listen 660s2 on 2 excellent tube amps,DarkVoice and Little Dot mk4 se with Modi multibit . Verum on ifi zen can signature and Cambridge dac magic plus connected via xlr to 4.4mm balanced cable, best headphones I heard up to 900 euros in my home
Glad you're enjoying them! Thanks for sharing your experience.
You faked me out with the intro there. Well done. I laid down the cash for the pre-order last night and thought you were about to give me news I didn't want. Looking forward to their arrival.
Haha. Mission accomplished!
Congratulations on the purchase. I think you'll be very happy!
Danke!

I just went to Kickstarter and got it, thanks for a great review
I hope you love it! (And I'm pretty sure you will)
Great video but this mic sounds so aweful, wierd and unnatural. Its hard to go through the whole video because of that.
Yes. Sorry about that. That mic is gone now - doesn't work at all well for my setup and my voice.
Cool, the rest is pro! Thanks.

Cry about it.
The headphone maker has made a bunch of racist comments publicly. No way I could ever support or forgive that type of behavior. Plenty of other headphones out there not made by racists
