I'm so glad your channel has maintained your children's privacy. Some RUclips families show everything and I hate what that is doing to the children's lives.
I love that you don't wear makeup, you look absolutely beautiful without it! I also chose to not wear any anymore about 2 years ago and I've been feeling more like myself ever since 🥰 have a great day! I just flew over Texas today and thought of you :D
Aw thank you so much for your kind words! So fun that you flew over Texas today :)
Blessings to all of you - not only for Passover, but for every day of your lives.
Q&A times are so fun! I love your diverse interests... your children are so lucky to have a teacher who loves learning so much! What a gift you are giving them!!! ❤

My local library had macrame classes. It was a lot of fun. It doesn't take a lot of materials. You can make it using cord or nylon rope. You loop your knots around a dowel rod. The librarian printed instructions for beginner projects that she found online. I made a snowflake and a heart. It was little hard at first. That is because I am slow learner. I am sure someone as crafty as you could catch in no time. I wanted to share some info in case you wanted to look into it more.
Thank you so much for sharing! I will look into local classes :) Our library offers a lot of things as well.
Librarians are so awesome. :D
@@jaroffireflies Ours has offered similar as well, and I've done macrame plant holders before too.
@@GoingGreenMom cool!
@@jaroffirefliesif you have a local JCC you like they might have some classes too! Ours even has a maker space with 3d printers, sewing machines, some woodworking stuff but I am in a really large city. Good luck!

Thank you!
My question was the first one you answered! I almost spit out my iced tea! 🤣 Thanks so much for answering it and I love you and your family! ❤️

Your bloopers at the end brought me so much joy. 😂 Much love to you and your family. I absolutely love your videos.

Do you ( personally) listen to audiobooks? I don’t know if there are children’s books, I don’t sleep well and enjoy Scribed. First month free. I just finished “The Other Mrs. Astor” , I read all I can about the Titanic, I’ll be done tonight with “The Kite Runner” also read “Where Jasmine Blooms “ I really enjoyed that one , a lot of it took part where I grew up, as did the end of The Kite Runner. I read The Kite Runner on the Plane ✈️ 10 years ago when we flew nonstop from Philadelphia to Maui. Great book.
I maybe should not tell you this, I have much more class and manners than what we did. We stayed at a hotel 11 years ago in Virginia Beach while visiting friends. We prefer to stay in a hotel. Around 12am. When we left our friends house, we noticed a ball room with a long table with food. We honestly thought it was open Buffett for all staying at the hotel, we walked in like we owned the place, OMgosh, it was a Bar Mitzvah , they must have had the dinner and party earlier, because we saw people there when we left to go to friends around 7pm. We did not know, we got plates from the self service line, filled them, and walked out to the elevator. After we left the ballroom we realized it was a party. We decided not to go back and apologize, we left a note with a 50.00 bill at the front desk addressed to the newly Bar Mitzvaded. The hotel would not give us his name, but assured us they would and did. We put a note that said we we’re sorry, we thought the hotel had open Buffett. We left our address, not knowing what to expect. The parents wrote to us and thought it was funny, thanked us for the cash. The young boy also thanked us. We will NEVER do that again.
Good morning Chana and Firefly kiddos 💕 💖 love Q&A'S ❤️

Loved the Q&A! I always learn something new and you are so gracious to answer all our questions. I am wishing you a blessed Passover.
And also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY month! I wish you the happiest one ever and may it be overflowing with blessings. ( and eats LOTS of cake! My dear friend made me an Angel food cake for my birthday last week and I ate the whole thing myself. No one asked for a piece and I didn’t offer any either. Lol I didn’t feel the least bit stingy or guilty about it. I just ate the cake and enjoyed every bite.😂)

Hi Chana! Another great Q and A! My great nephews love being read to, and I can't wait to start them with the Hobbit. ( I have a few years to go yet). I am happy to say that the eldest (7) is reading a few years above his grade level and I strongly feel it's because we started reading to them as toddlers. Has your son started the Lord of the Rings trilogy? I think you have instilled a strong love of reading in your children that will take them anywhere they want to go! Enough of my chatter...as always a pleasure to watch and learn....
Thank you Janith! We have read the Hobbit together but that’s as far as we have gotten into Tolkien so far :)
Hope your voice is better soon! Have a great rest of your week :D

Ooh! Lacemaking! I'm currently learning, and really all you need is a pillow, pins, a pattern, and a set of bobbins (if you're doing bobbin lace). For tatted lace, you need a pattern and a set of shuttles. Very easy to get started, but also very fiddly. Takes awhile to get the hang of it, but it's so satisfying when you've created a yard of lace that you can actually USE. I've made knitted lace and crocheted lace, and I just had to try bobbin lace and tatting. Definitely try it!
Oh that is so cool that you do that! You make it sound a lot less complicated than the videos I’ve seen :)
@@jaroffireflies RUclips ate my reply! For bobbin lace, I've got Brigita Fuhrmann's book "Bobbin Lace" and a set of antique wooden bobbins from Belgium (because I'm a nerd). Tatting is proving to be more challenging, but I've got the Dover book "Easy Tatting" and a cheap set of shuttles to get me through. I'd love to hear if you try it!
@@ashextraordinaire I’ll definitely share if I’m able to try it! I have this crazy idea I should write a book first 🤣 I appreciate the recommendations!
Hi Chana! I hope you and your family have a good Passover. Always lovely to see you upload a video, I hope your cold gets better soon!
I have a question for a next Q&A: I notice that for many things you do there are prayers to say. I was just wondering how this works for people who are depressed or otherwise mentally ill. I've been depressed to the point that I couldn't get myself to get out of bed for weeks on end, let alone brush my teeth or prepare food. How do sick people deal with this and what do Rabbi's suggest to those people?
Hello Marije! Thank you for your kind words :) To answer your question, people who are sick are exempt from things like prayers, and an illness like depression would exempt someone. Its of course something to would discuss with your local orthodox rabbi :)
Another great Q & A!! I hope you have a wonderful Passover holiday!! ❤ Just read one the comments here, and it would be interesting for you to explain your experience with RUclips. It sounds like you jokingly said you might not have done it if you knew what you know now. That would make a great video!
Thank you Karen! I think a video more about RUclips would be a great idea. I'll have to sort out my thoughts on the topic so I can speak about them well lol But you are right, I don't know that I would have done it knowing what I know now :)

Have your children read any of the “Borrower” series children’s books by Mary Norton? I loved that series when I was a kid. It’s a story about tiny people that live in Big people houses and borrow small items to make there houses. My Mom would say the Borrowers took what ever we couldn’t find around the house..they needed it more than we did.
Yes! We have The Borrowers and my oldest has read it. I loved it when I was a kid!
Macrame is super easy and QUICK. You can easily complete a plant hanger or wall hanging in 2-3 hours. Tons of tutorials online and you can use any rope you find at any hardware store, though I tend to use cotton. Still very inexpensive!
Thanks for the tips!
You have the cutest laugh. Have a great day.
😊 thank you
Hi Chana, great Q/A. I really like your glasses. You are the only woman who I have heard say that you don't like the feel of make up on your skin. I have always felt that way. The last time I wore was when I got married. 10 years ago. You have a beautiful face. No need to cover up your natural beauty. Though wearing makeup at certain special times is smart. Also your smile is so very special. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
Thank you so much for your kind words 💜💜💜
Hi Chana, love your videos and find it fascinating to learn more about your faith. This is a very silly question, but while watching this video, my eyes wandered a bit to the wall behind you. There are two small paintings to the left of the Flying Geese Wall hanging. The top one looks like a bear playing a violin but for the love of me I can't make out the lower painting. Sort of looks like a cross between an alien and the Starry Night painting by Van Gogh. It's making me crazy and I'd much rather focus on your beautiful face and your answers.
Hi Martha! Those are my versions of paintings by an artists I found online called Martina Shapiro. I just enjoy painting and I love her colors and style :)
Have a wonderful seder, Chana.
Thank you Melodie!
Chana, I just recalled a series I loved as an elementary school student decades ago.. The Boxcar Children series written by Gertrude Chandler Warner! Do you know it?
Yes! My son is reading one of the boxcar children books right now! I enjoyed those as a kid too :)
I really enjoy you and your family. Thank you for sharing your life with us. I have learned so much. I don’t understand though the division of certain foods, could you explain the why and what to us please.
Hi Lois! For keeping kosher, we do not eat eat and dairy together, so we separate it even to the point of having separate dishes for meat and dairy :)
My surgery went well, I’m home from hospital resting pretty comfortably
So glad you’re doing well! Wishing you a continued recovery that is quick and without complications!

Hey Chana! Since Passover is coming up shortly should we expect to not have a video next Monday, April 10 and wait for another week? Just want to make sure when we will see you again😄
You're so sweet Siobhan! I am planning to have a video every Monday this month :)
Coughing a lot too… for the past 3 weeks or so? (Started with flu or corona or something that causes a log of coughing I didn’t officially test I stayed inside for almost as good as 2 weeks, while I was too low on energy to do much outside the house anyway, and hope that my leftover coughs are just leftover symptoms. Not that it is any less annoying am so done with it… except body disagrees and throws in some more cough rounds).
Name thing hmm kind of relate somewhat I react to a few.
Also been successful in finding matzo/matze (?) at the supermarket so that is nice for this week. Will continue spring cleaning some more with energy returning. I think I saw Pesach starts tomorrow? Have a good time ❤
So sorry you’ve been sick! I hope you are back to 100% soon. So glad you found matza! And yes, Passover starts tomorrow night!
I don't have a question but I just wanted to wish you and family a blessed Passover.
Thank you Patricia!
You might check out acrylic paints. They are water soluble--making cleaning up so much easier, they are safer (no lead based, etc.), but otherwise handle similarly. I'm not Orthodox but I enjoyed your video. (My understanding Sephradic vs Ashkenazi is more of a differences in what is "Jewish food" and some differences in Kosher. Another difference, on Passover they will eat rice and legumes--it would be hard to eliminate given they are a major part their diet. But essentially it is difference in culture.)
❤ Your precious ❤ 🙂 🤗
What is 'Gamarrah"? And why is 'Esther (the Magilla) so important? Thank you for taking so much of your time to enlighten us! (just an FYI, we are getting 10-30" of snow, 65mph winds, and blizzard conditions here is northeast Wyoming!)
Gemara is the Talmud, the oral Torah. The Megillah is what we read on the holiday of Purim. So glad you are enjoying! Stay warm in all that snow!
Bob Ross is a great place to start with oil painting (and he's such a wholesome person).
As to lace making, figuring out the type you want to make (crochet, tatted, bobbin), you can find tutorials here on YT or on skillshare or the like.
Thank you for the video :)
Thank you for the suggestions! 💜
@@jaroffireflies Welcome and have fun. I think your oldest may like Bob Ross. He does mostly landscapes, but they're very nice and he's just a wholesome person "Happy trees" and "happy little accidents"

I'm Christian, but growing up my favorite books were the "All of a Kind Family" series by Sydney Taylor. It's a Jewish family in turn-of-the-century NYC. I usually take the set out of the library every couple of years to read again.
I have heard about this set :) Its on my list to get my kids :)
I would recommend the old art form of tatting. There is a learning curve but it's involves only a tatting shuttle and a ball of crochet thread. Fairly inexpensive.
Good to know! Thank you!
I love your videos. I noticed some Dalek figurines in the shelving behind you. Does your family have a favourite doctor and/or Doctor Who episode?
Thank you! Yes, my favorite episode is Vincent and the Doctor. Makes me cry every time!
@@jaroffireflies I love that one as well

I think the question about prepared food was asking if they could bring food from their kitchen to your house if they used kosher ingredients, a new pot or pan. Everything in the house should be kosher, the stove, oven, refrigerator its kept in, the sponge it's washed with. If the cake was stored in a refrigerator that has bacon, it is not "Kosher".
I really love those q and a's 🥰 I have a question - can you please recommend your favorite cozy crimes? I would love to read those because I like a good crime, but I dont like all that violence and so on 😅❤🥰
So glad you are enjoying! I loved the White House Mysteries by Julie Hyzy. She wrote another series as well that I enjoyed, the Manor House Mysteries. Amanda Flower (and her other pen names Isabella Allan is one) has written tons of books and they are all really good. I particularly loved her Amish Quilt Shop Mysteries. I was curious how many times Mr. Firefly ended up reading the Book of Esther on Purim (you had mentioned in a previous video that he would read it for people who needed to hear it)?
I think five times if I’m remembering correctly:)
I love Harry Potter books but my fave is the hobbit ever since primary school and it was read one chapter a week on the ABC Radio here in Australia we listened to it in class never got to the end of the radio show so it was brought for me and has been my fave book since Tolkien is one of my fave authors reading is like going on holiday sitting in your house

If you wan to start painting, I would suggest starting with acrylics. The main difference is you can't mix acrylic right on a canvas like you can with oils.

Ive always loved your videos! Always happy when a new one posts.
However… Hope 2 minute commercials aren’t going to become the norm. I understand their purpose…
I don’t mind the 30 seconds ones. But 2 minutes is a bit much.
So glad you are enjoying my videos! I understand your frustration with the ads. I don’t have them in every video, but if I could, I absolutely would. When you see a video without an ad, I worked for free. When you do see an ad, that means I made money on that video that contributes towards paying our household expenses, buying my kids new clothes, or something else really useful for my family. These videos take a great deal of time and energy and I’m so happy that most of them are able to give back to my family. With both my husband and I self employed, anything I can add to our income takes a lot of pressure of of us. Thank you for your patience and understanding with the ads. You can always skip past them 💜 I never set up non skippable ads on my videos.
Sorry to hear that you have had a cold. My little one loves Harry Potter too. 😊
Thank you 🤗
Hello Channa, I know I am late on the question video but this question has me wondering. Regarding your hair covering, what happens in the event of a medical emergency requiring surgery? Is the little cap they give you to wear able to suffice as a covering? Also, are there guidelines regarding a male physician seeing your hair during a medical exam?
These are great questions. I should use the best medical provider I can, so if that is a male doctor, I should absolutely go to a male doctor. If he needs to see my hair for some reason that is fine. I’ve had surgeries, procedures, given birth etc and kept my hair covered. It’s never been an issue. For surgery, I ask if it’s ok if I wear a hair cover and they always say it’s fine, and I just put the little cap they provide over it :)
Oh, yikes, I get that nasal pharyngitis when I get a cold. Super croaky voice and sometimes just a whisper. Glad you're feeing better! Q&As are fun and you navigate well the fine line between just enough information and giving away too much 😃Oh, yes, it's Holy Week for my Christian friends. I'm making some of my mom's sugar cookies for my younger sister for Easter. She just had an angioplasty last week (her 4th 🙁). I'll include a few other non-edible goodies. If she can't eat the cookies I know her husband and grandsons will enjoy them. Ooh, I just remembered thatI would love to see a video of your favorite desserts. Anyway, need to get my week started. Have a wonderful week and can't wait to see your next video 💚
Thank you for your kind words! Sorry you get that too when you get colds! It’s a bit annoying right? So sweet of you to make the cookies for your friend!
My sister taught herself to tat. The lace is beautiful!
That’s so fun!
(Question) I wondered when your mother-in-law visited you, how you handled lighting Shabbat candles. How does it work when another woman in the home is a bar mitzvah? Is it reserved for the woman of the house, or the eldest, or both?
We both would light when my MIL would visit :) My daughter won't light until she has her own house no matter bat mitzvah or not
One of my favourite book series is written by Brian Jaques
