    From $37K to $45K that's the minimum range of profit return every week I thinks it's not a bad one for me, now I have enough to pay bills and take care of my family.

    Cali adventure attractions cast member here. Awesome video first off. I wanna say first off i don't know much about cm's on Disneyland side, however over on DCA I find that attractions cast members are very united in support of a strike. There is alot of talk Backstage about it. Cm's getting second jobs to cover the time off, selling their stuff for extra money etc etc. We at attractions (at least in the grizzley peak area where I make magic) also have a great relationship with our custodial, food and beverage, and merchandise. cm's and from what I hear they seem to be just as united as we are, even if not all of them are involved in this possible strike. Now as far as us being pulled to work shifts at Disneyland, the issue is mainly training. For attractions, depending on the ride there is typically 3-5 days of training to learn everything, and the normal trainers for these rides will not be working due to their strike. So management or someone else that has knowledge would have to do the training. I find it hard to believe that they would be able to train the required amount of cm's in such a short time. And with these viruses going around i expect alot of sick day callouts in the coming weeks. On top of that cm's may have a hard time understanding these new attractions and not do well on our first performance assessment and need extra time to train. All im saying is Disney has a tough task ahead of them as you said yes, this is a very complex issue and I for one am excited to see what happens in the coming weeks.

      @elizabethsalvage4338 2 месяца назад +4

      I appreciate what you wrote. I commented so much, then deleted. I'll just say I've heard only two days training, many from TDA, and that's not nearly enough for safety. Isn't that the first key? If we do strike, and you're asked to cross over, contact the union first for documentation.

    • @saberav8r793
      @saberav8r793 2 месяца назад +2

      @@elizabethsalvage4338 Yeah good question. Unfortunately I cant go far into detail about alot of stuff legally but ill try and answer your question as best as I can, but again this is only from the limited info I have so things could be different in other work locations. So as far as training goes yes, in my opinion it is too short. From what iv seen 3 days of training is avg for a attraction. However depending on how complex the attraction is the training can be longer or shorter. There is an inherent risk of safety to both us as ride operators and the guests if the ride is operated in a manner inconsistent with the operators guide. each ride is different in the way its operated to simple things like the way the queue should flow to complex things such as how to recover entrapped guests in the event of the ride breaking down for whatever reason. I want to say that our trainers are simply fellow cm's that have applied to train new cm's on the ride and all of them are highly qualified for the job. they are also not leads inherently, however some can be. But I wanna put it out there that they are not the issue, the issue is from above, in the amount of time they are allotted to train new cm's. If I had any say, id want at least 2 more days of training per ride, to give new (usually nervous and overwhelmed cm's) time to really understand what to do in any scenario, but sadly thats just not how it works currently. I have little to no contact with people in TDA, in fact the last time I went in their building was for my first day, so i have no idea what things are like on their end. Anyway TLDR yes there are dangers in our job, i wish there was longer training times but there isnt, and as far as us dca cm's getting pulled to disneyland we will need to wait and see what happens.

    Thank you for being a voice of logic and reasoning. I have worked in both the public and private sector of business I have owned a business with a physical location(s) and currently own a small online business and I have a degree in business administration. What I have learned with that and with personal experience is that there is side A side B and somewhere in the middle lies the truth. This isn't out of malicious intentions just our own inherent biases. These issues are not easy to fix. As a public traded company the reality is that you have an obligation to thoes share holders. If someone doesn't want that then they need to be a full funded private company or a non-profit. Even as a non-profit there are obligations that need to be met. The fact is Disney is neither of them they are a publicly traded company. Please you can support the cast members without demonizing the people who are representing the management as well. You can support the cast members rights and still do what is good for you and your family and you should not be punished for it. If nothing else understand that not everyone will give you unbiased information and have your best interest in mind. So just be understanding that the complexity of business is far from a yes or no answer.

    Ex-union CM here, used to work in merchandise and foods, they hire so many part time people that everyone works 8-16 hours per week and all those hundreds of people have to have second jobs. It could take a year or more to get full time depending on your department. They only allowed us to give away 3 shifts a year so it was hard to get a shift covered if you were sick (forced to use sick time) and no opportunity to pick up more hours. It’s really tough on everyone and almost everyone except few college students with no bills struggle.

      We also only accrued 1 hour of sick time per 30 hours but if we only worked 12 hours a week…well you do the math, it would take forever to stack up enough sick hours to cover us. Disciplinary actions are taken if we have a certain amount of unexcused hours (its low).

    When you say the issue is complicated ... I disagree. Ceos don't need to make milions upon millions of dollars. They can afford to take a paycut, especially when cast members are the reason the parks are running and they can't afford a place to live. Ridiculous. Support the cast members!!
    People over profits always.

    • @DavidOz316
      @DavidOz316 2 месяца назад +4

      It's complicated. Iger made $31.6 million last year. $3 million was in cash but the rest was in other compensation (like stocks). Fun fact, that's actually a tax loophole. His base salary is around $854k. But let's say the $31 million is cash that can be distributed to the 28k CMs. That would then mean that each CM pre tax would get $1,128/yr. Assuming that they work 40 hrs/week, 52 weeks a year, that's only a salary increase of $0.54/hr. That's not much. Slap on federal and state income tax, and it's barely an increase
      I don't disagree that CEOs are paid insane levels. I don't disagree that CMs should get paid more. But the math behind "oh, if the CEO took a pay cut everyone else could make a liveable wage" doesn't work out. I personally believe the main issue is the demand of a market to always see quarter over quarter growth. Keep increasing revenue and keep operational costs down, such as wages

It's a conversation about values, our value to ourselves, our value as a consumer, and how we are valued by others. If you can't have that conversation with your kids, then corporations have won and that's the message you'll send to them. That you don't value other people who are struggling enough to support them, but instead buy into consumerism. Go to Universal Studios instead, go camping instead, create memories outside the Disney bubble so that the new generations understand the value of people and their ability to change things for the better. Or stuff your face with churros and put on a fake facade that you support cast members. Just remember, it can easily be you next.

      Best comment on here. You touched on all the things I feel about the situation. I've been going to Disney parks since 1964 and I have never crossed the picket line even when I scheduled a vacation around Disney. There have been strikes at Disneyland where I decided instead to go to Knott's Berry Farm and/or other area attractions. There are plenty other alternatives in SoCal and Central Florida. I think supporting unions is the right thing to do.

    Thank you for explaining how union strikes work and how the strike was NOT voted on by 99% of the union. I do think the cast members might hold off on striking until the upcoming D3 convention. That would put the greatest strain on the company and in the union’s eye make the greatest impact.

    Liked much of what you said, however a couple of points. First, I feel it is a bit presumptuous to assume all the union members who didn’t vote did so because they were fearful of retaliation. Some? Sure. But I can think of numerous other reasons that they may not have voted based on my experience as a union member in Las Vegas. Second, it’s possible that the union contract for California Adventures prevents union members from being shifted over to the other park or from being forced to cross a strike line. Is it Likely? No. But it is possible. Such language exists in our Las Vegas contracts.
    I really like your idea of supporting cast members on strike with water and even verbal support. Also, canceling any purchases, including food in the Disneyland Park while cast members are on strike is a good idea.
    Let’s hope the next couple of days of negotiation are fruitful.

    My First job was as a Graphic Designer in a Medical Teaching Department of a university in a hospital in the UK. I was only on a temporary 6 week contract (which I stretched it to 8 months and was on the brink of making it permanent). However 3 months in the Job, The staff's Union voted and called a strike day. But I couldn't strike because I was still a temp, i.e. sacked, but I couldn't work as the place was closed, so I had to take it off as a personal day. A fellow colleague almost blanked me until I boss explained it. I supported their right to vote for a strike, but I politely didn't agree with them. Also I have seen too many places where the really hard workers are paid lesser than those who blag there way through work.

    The 5,000 that didn’t vote were from Disney’s California Adventure and Downtown Disney, because they are under a different contract and weren’t able to vote now. Their contract ends at the end of September.
    And we’re all part of the same union, just a different contract. And the workers can question the company about having them cross picket lines, but can’t deny the change

      Hi Sticksara. I’m responding just so people don’t get confused. The 5000 that didn’t vote are not DCA CMs. They are under a different union and could not vote in July 19s vote. So what you wrote was correct but, there are 14,000 employees for the Disneyland union. 5000 of the Disneyland union did not vote.

    Attractions cast members can’t just go from Little Mermaid to Peter Pan without the full training of the ride. You can’t just show up there and start working. It probably takes 3-5 days of training. Otherwise that cast member can contact safety and show just cause that it’s unsafe for them to get moved without the proper training. And that would go for most positions there.

    Union employees for the most part do not cross other union lines. It’s always been a protection we have as union members. and you can not expect someone from another ride to come easily work a totally different ride. It takes training and guess who does the training. Trainers are approved cast members that have been signed off to be a trainer. The only people Disney can FORCE to work wherever they want are NON UNION employees such as plaids or salary employees

    I am a cast member who would have voted one way but was not able to because my shift was almost the entire time the vote was taking place (I started at 6:45 am and wasn't off until 5:30.) And I had plans for after work that I had committed to months in advance and couldn't get out of.So I wish this vote was held over more than just the one day. When we vote on the contract itself, we do so on site backstage so people who are at work can participate before,during or after work. I couldn't get to the offsite location where the vote was happening. Why do I bring this up? Because I think the reason they are saying 99 percent voted for it is because most people weren't going to go to the offsite location if they were voting No.

    Great explanation all around.
    I haven’t heard the Acolyte comment before, but can I just say - I actually kind of like that idea? Let me explain.
    Disney Parks have carried the company for the past few years. They’ve helped balance several other under-performing areas.
    Acolyte has a budget around 60% of Avengers: Endgame. It included a series of small-stage scenes with 4 sets: a ship, the Jedi Palace room, a forest, and the coven.
    The Cast Members are providing experiences and revenue. The Acolyte created overwhelmingly negative experiences and did not result in revenue.
    Why are we paying the folks who REMOVE revenue that much money, while paying the folks who GENERATE revenue so little?
    I don’t think it’s an unfair question or comparison.
    Just food for thought! You’re certainly allowed to disagree. I hope this provides a certain point of view, as General Kenobi likes to call it. 👍

    Ex CM here, '77-'84 (NO/BC Attractions. Teamster.) I currently have reservations for 3 nights at the Grand Californian in mid-September. I'm in three unions: SAG-AFTRA, AEA, and AGVA (even though I'm mostly retired.) I live in SoCal so I'm local. If the Disneyland employees don't have a new contract 30 days before our reservations, I'm canceling. I don't look forward to rescheduling, and I especially don't want to get up again at 6am for three days to get the dinner reservations we want....grrrr..... BUT I WILL. I will NEVER cross a union picket line.

    Honestly the acolyte should have never been green lit. That money should have definitely gone back to reinvesting into the parks and its employees. If Disney brought back live performances at buzz light year dining area like they did in the 90s, guests would have enjoyed it rather than wasting it on a thin plot like the acolyte.

    Just another thought… My husband is a union member for the airlines. We have a Disneyland trip in the calendar for the end of August. We are flying from New Jersey. If Disney cast members are on strike during the week we have planned to visit, we will not be coming to Disneyland. My family, out of respect for unionization and their members, will not cross a picket line of workers in front of park entrance. Those of us with plans to visit must remember and realize that we have to cross that picket line where those employees are rightfully protesting their employer’s treatment of them. It’s not a small thing and at least for my family, I’d rather plan my visit for another year than face those individuals fighting for better wages and treatment from Disney.

    Disneyland might not shut down or close but the customer experience is going to be effected. I'm pretty sure with the reservation system in place Disneyland hasn't over hired staff like in years previous to just have employees waiting on call for a shift. I'm just saying I'm glad I'm not going to the parks anytime soon and if I had a trip booked through Get away today I'd be asking for a refund and or rescheduling my trip to the Disneyland Resort.
