I remember this idea being a revelation to me when I first learned about it. It was a lightbulb moment, it made total sense. I could see clearly that this is how I view cultural objects, through the assessment of whether they a culturally "good" or "bad". I've had so many arguments with people over the years about exactly "Why?" they like the things they like. The stock answer is "because I just do" or "because the X that I enjoy is clearly better than the Y that most people like". If one gets beyond this and actually manages to drill down into specifics ,"The wine I like is rare", "The wine I like is expensive", "... takes more effort to make", "... requires a refined palate" the question of, "But why do you consider these qualities to be better?" always ends in illuminating the value judgments of the social construction of taste. The only answer that makes sense is, "it tastes better to me".
Bourdieu’s point is that your « individual taste», is 98% not a coinsidence or individual at all. He would argue that your answer of « it tastes good to me» is most of all a construct of your environment and not of the « Me» part. Class and taste is real and it is a struggle for the people of the bottom to hide their poverty, because habitus reveals their social standing. The people on the topp 1%-0,25%) are afraid to lose their power/social status, and often show it with vulgar consumption. The real power lay with the educated upper middle classes who also have parents and grand parents from the same classes

Maybe I should have written, "It tastes better to me, but I am constructed from my experiences and inadvertent assumptions about what is good and bad so my judgement can in no way be taken as being representative of an an absolute value that can be assigned to the thing I am making a value judgement upon."
What is interesting is the sports that are loved by different social classes. Or the type of players. The more one is proletarian the more one likes sports that appeal to the physical and the more one is of a high social class one appreciates the "technicians". If a proletarian appreciates tennis he will like Nadal more than Federer. Boxing (now MMA) is the emblematic proletarian sport. While golf is the bourgeois sport.

Do you mean why do the middle class want to be different from the working class? Or do you mean what goes on in a middle-class person's head when they think "I don't like this movie" or whatever This is a simplification, but the basic point is that the working class like things that are obviously likeable, and in particular things that make you feel good (pretty art, cute kitten pictures) or excited (action movies). It takes things like education, practice, money and familiarity to appreciate less "popular" things - that's generally what the middle and upper classes have. It is "cultivated" taste because you have to work on it.

Example: You`ve got a lunch break - situation with time period between 30mins - 1 hr. Do You take fast food ? or Do you eat properly on small restaurant ? According to Bordieu this is a choice connected with the backkground and class variables. Today actually, it is a question dependent on choice prioritization, that is connected with the amount of activities one have to/needs/wants to perform for the temporal period of time - day ! In a plain formulaic manner that describes the one`s real schedule/agenda for the day/week/month/year : I must to/have to; need to; want to BECAUSE OF, over that is symbolized - _______ (time + engagement/s) - Time of the day !
