Thank you for breaking this down! I'm taking a critical theory class but the readings are hard to go into without having any understanding of the concepts, it can be intimidating. This made a lot of sense though, and your examples were helpful. Now I will be able to make meaningful comments in my class's discussion. Thank you again!
You're very welcome! Please explore the channel. I have covered a lot of lit theory subject. You might want to check out my playlist on Terry Eagleton.
Thanking you sir for all the information and knowledge you are disseminating. I have a request, could you please make a lecture video on Orientalism as a postcolonial theory with relation to the Colonial or orientalist photography.
Thank you. I cannot be that specific. There are plenty of videos on the channel on Orientalism and if you read the book, you can very easily apply the insights to photography as well.
3:39 I guess part of that symbolic capital of the expensive oxen can be transformed into economic capital too, lots of societies would spend lots of money for rights of breeding animals with preferable genetic traits.
Thank you. But that necessarily might have not been the reason even though it could be a possibility. The important thing is to have the symbolic claim to owning the best pair of oxen.
@@masoodraja Totally agree :) It's only one possibility of many, I'm fascinated by the situations where one type of capital can transform into another. Other people must believe the pair of oxen are truly the best pair, the oxen might have measurable traits or just a great mythological story to verify this claim. Owning becomes a synonym to monopoly in this situation. But if we can't convince other people of this, it's just a matter of personal taste/opinion. Other pairs of oxen can claim this "best" title too.
omg yes, my professor made it a bit too simplistic so I didnt understand, but this explanation and examples help alot. Thanks so much! Truly, since I need to know this for my final too haha.
Greetings sir. Is it true that there are no straightforward differences and similarities between postcolonialism and postmodernism but rather intersecting and diverging trajectories? I'm studying the topic of postmodernism and postcolonialism and I'm confused. Could you also list some literary works in the domain of postmodern postcolonial literature please. Your help is greatly appreciated doctor
Thank you. There are obviously differences between the two: a text can be postmodern without being postcolonial and vice versa. The only way you will know the difference is by reading up on both and then making up your mind. There is no simple yes and no answer. I will see if I can record something specifically on it. In the meantime please watch my videos on Postcolonialism and postmodernism and see what comes through.
"The only people who are worth listening to, in today's world of too much noise, are those who are willing to risk their social capital." This is my reorientation of Hannah Arendt for the modern times.

Thank you for always simplifying concepts for both teachers and students of lit and cultural theory.
You are welcome.
This explanation was quite comprehensive for me because I was having difficulty grasping the concept. Thank you.
You are welcome.
Wonderful explanation ✨
Thank you!
What a great explanation. Bourdieu is so hard to read I needed this.

Sir can you please confirm that all these forms of capital are explained in his book distinction or just this one??
Thank you. If I mention it then it is in the book but you might want to read the book for further clarification
Sir any lectures about marx capital. What was marx predictions about automation ?
I don’t have much on Capital but there should be one on the General Intellect which deals with automation.

@Nader Nabil Yes, the basis of symbolic capital is capital but it’s economism is hidden or, as Bourdieu would say it, misrecognized.

Please recommend any good book for beginners to start Bourdieu.
Thank you. Take a look at the one listed in the description. That happens to be his most widely known books.

Sir, can you please recommend some novels which contain symbolic capital and symbolic violence.
Thank you. I am sorry I have no such list. Please take a look at what you have read and see if you can explore it through these ideas.

Reply. Yes, those who risk something. I have done that many times in my life for some causes great and small.
