I'm from the USA and Discovered KRAFTWERK back in 1974/75 when I was in Junior High. While listening to the radio in my art class the DJ said " This is what the Future sounds like ' and then played " Autobahn " I have been a Fan ever since. I consider them to be the Forefathers of the Electronic Movement which have Inspired and Influence many.

Similar story here, perpetual61. Same years. I was in high school, also in USA, with radio playing in my bedroom upstairs. Top 40 station. Rainy & overcast outside. Springtime. While walking from my room into the hall, "Autobahn" came on the radio for the first time I'd ever heard it. The music literally stopped me in my tracks. I turned around and headed back into my room and listened, rapt, to the whole thing. Transfixed me, and it was the perfect music to accompany that cold, rainy day in Michigan. You don't remember moments that clearly when they're ordinary. That's because the music was EXTRAordinary.
      Ausgezeichnet, Florian Schneider. RIP

Why is this guy bashing rock performance?
It's just another way of expression, not better or worse.
He says people were small minded for not accepting machines in music but like, Jimi Hendrix wailing on his guitar and moving along to it is pure expression to me. Kraftwerk in a way subverted that and did their own thing. That's to me what's so great about music, the huge variety and constant evolution. No need to exclude, great music comes in all forms!
I admire his passion for Kraftwerk tho.

For Paul Morley to say that Beatles didn’t influence anyone other than Elton John shows complete ignorance and destroys his credibility. The Beatles were amongst the first to combine tape loops and sonic experimentation with accessible songs ( and amongst the first to use a Moog synthesiser on Abbey Road). Kraftwerk obviously took it a step further and we’re hugely influential pioneers of purely electronic music. This guy just comes across, though, as a pretentious hipster trying to bash ‘mainstream’ rock for no obvious reason. Just listen to Tomorrow Never Knows from 1966 - that would have mind blowing back then, and still holds up today.
