- In 1954, Ramon Perez first introduced the Pina Colada to customers in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is said that he spent three months capturing "the sunny, tropical flavor of Puerto Rico in a glass." Here, cocktail expert Robert Hess shows us how to do the same.

Handy tip: Use frozen pineapple chunks (easily available by the bag in your supermaket) instead of ice and pinepapple juice.

drank four or five of these yesterday haha! they are so tasty and the cream cuts the acidity of the pineapple juice so it tastes heavenly.
2 oz white rum (Bacardi)
1 oz coconut cream (Coco Lopez)
1 oz heavy cream
6 oz pineapple juice
4 oz ice
Blend and look for a frothy consistency. Pour into hurricane glass. Garnish with pineapple and cherry. Serve with a couple of straws.

Vanilla ice cream works amazingly well instead of heavy cream!! The texture is better that way!! Also wish there were real pineapples instead of canned juice..

I like this recipe as it uses actual coconut cream. So many places cut corner and use Malibu or other such variations which makes the alcohol overpowering.

It's like he said, it's made different in other countries to add the exoticism. Here in Puerto Rico we use Coconut Cream, Pineapple juice, ice and rum (optional).
Thanks for that…so many recipes are so specific about using Coco Lopez’s Coconut Cream…a turn-off because simple pure ingredients are best…not things with long lists of ingredients.
@@dodgedabullet670 You can make your own cream of coconut. There are plenty of recipes on youtube and you can freeze portions of it if you want to make a large batch.
@arnarne coco Lopez is the original ingredient in the Piña Colada. It is made from mature coconut flesh that is preserved in sugarcane juice and is totally natural.

There's evidence of pirates in the 19th century giving this mix to their sailors, although the actual cocktail was created first in 1954 by Ramon Marrero in Puerto Rico!
