I have had my 7 inch Banggod for approx 10 months now. I thought it was flying well, then I flashed it. Tried old tunes, fresh tune, and even your preset. Nothing felt right. Then I followed your video to a T and and OMG. So this is what a good tune feels like? ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Thank you Mark
Holy shit after 112 black box logs and small adjustments reviewing logs, turning the ESC PWM frequency from 24khz to 16khz made this thing fly so amazing. No other changes and it went from borderline un-flyable to a tune I could get from a prebuilt. Thank you so much
Thanks Mark! I just used this and some of your other 7 inch quad / betaflight guide videos to complete the tune of a new Rekon7 I'm building (not a ready to fly quad). This thing was all over the place when I just finished putting it together, and I was unable to tame it down myself. Using Zues F722 flight controller with the Betaflight 4.3 firmware image it came with. Followed your advice I enabled bidirectional DShot (Zeus 60A BLheli 32), changed PWM frequency from 48KHz down to 24KHz , and fetched your 6-7 inch quad tune preset, instantly got much much better results.
@@ToneVisionTonstudio I actually reduced ESC PWM frequency to 24KHz. in addition, after posting this I also reduced the master multiplier in PID tuning panel from 1.5 to 1.1, this improved flying smoothness even further.
FYI - For most ESC's that are stuck in the 48khz+ range. sskaug has or will on request release a "half-pwm" target. You can flash that target and any displayed pwm is cut in half. So, if you select, 48khz, for example, it will be 24khz. And 48khz - ByRPM does actually work as 24khz - ByRPM. It's a custom target so you have to grab it from their GitHub repo for your ESC though.
So I just flashed my troublesome 5" from BLHeli_M to Bluejay and it completely fixed the slow wobble I was getting and couldn't tune out. Thank you! This is why I support you on Patreon, the work you do for us is priceless.

Are you running those super long antennas you showed at the start? I would guess that a lot of the shaking could be due to low frequency vibrations of those antennas.
Thank you for sharing the final tune with us! Glad you liked my comment haha. Actually I wonder if you are planning to tune out the leftover oscillation I was also talking about? Heya - love your 7" videos so far. Are you planning any video on "conditions specific" tunes, maybe on patreon if not youtube? I personally find myself never able to get a mother-of-all-tunes. Someone I always manage to be in conditions where either wind, altitude don't necessarily work perfectly for my tuned-in-a-park type of quad. When flying from remote/far locations I don't necessarily have time, laptop or simply enough packs to adjust the tune for these conditions. So if there was like general rules on how to somewhat blindly modify PID's to adapt to whatever conditions it would geat. Specifically, wind and altitude, can't think of much else really. Keep it up, cheers!
I see a tiny bit of jello in there, I am having the same issue with my 10in. I am going to try 4.3 and 32.8 (HW esc) on 16kHz PWM and see if that helps. aside from jello it flys great on 4.2 with the presets from your website.
I'm having issues tuning my new 7". Oscillations on forward flight with throttle, or horizontal while flying forward. So you suggested TPA for this? Will try the PWM freq and see if it improves
wobble or shakes? Wobble: you need to make sure on 24khz PWM and then move up Master Slider, and possibly reduce Drift-Wobble slider. Shakes: try different props; HQ tri-blades, test with NO wind day. If still no go, try 48khz PWM. If still no good, your motor bells may be off balance, bearing issue, or your frame is not handling motor vibrations well and magnifying them. ALSO make sure you camera sensor is not the issue. Does HD match FPV for seeing shakes.
I suddenly got this issue of wobble. Identical. I use 840g auw apex 6 with 2408 motors. 6s. Wobble wobble wobble. Bf 4.3 rc3 and Rc6 tried. I can't fly the quad. Also, on low throttle, it barely stays in air... What to try...
@UAV Tech I get horrible noise and smoked a motor with your 7" settings and same with my own settings aswell as other 7inch pid and filter presets. smoked a motor idling props are just going nuts and gave it a bit of throttle and smoke. but the vibrations are so bad. was fine on 4.0.6 now i'm having such a hard time with 4.3 have to filter the crap out of it. now i'm getting wobbles after swapping motors esc and FC still did the same thing as far as noise and hot motors after the swap but then did filters. idles ok and thottle up vibs noise gone but flight i take off and wobble city.
Keep filter sliders low. Apply my 7" preset and lower Mater so that D-gains are no higher than 35. If you still have an issue, you have a mechanic problem you need to sort out. If that flies, then work to bump up Master.
Yea I ended up going back down to 24khz to help with wobbles. & slowly messing with p&d. I'm using a poorly design 8" I did.. 😆 I'm running inav on this
For something like a rekon35 or an eachine lr3. What tuning approach should I have? Should it be treated like a big quad or a small quad? thanks for your help, i love your videos
Not understanding the question/statement. 1. Obviously, it matters who you are racing against. I'm sure it was not folks in the top 50. 2. ButtF is Beta with a different logo. Also way dead project not too (because a sham), so doesn't matter. 3. if a lot of long runs in the track (less technical) 7" is faster than 5"
Thanks Mark! She's flying way better. I did notice when on throttle there were some vibrations looking at the light poles. Anything you could do to fix that? J/W
I typically do not unless i want to re-jigger things to suppress D-gains. For a 6" not so much unless I have vibration issues I need to cover up (not ideal). For a cinelifter, YES in some cases because D-gains typically need to be very high.
Hello! I have a strange problem with the pid tuning on a 7 inch quad. in simple words when I add Feed Forward it starts to oscillate and if I remove the FF completely the oscillations disappear. What does this all depend on?

@@sickshots hi there I just installed BF4.3 loaded Mark Spats 6”-7” preset so what ever that makes the filters ie I didn’t touch the filter and left the PWM.. at 24hz😊👍
chris rosser did a vid on pwm and has said a variable pwm freq. doesnt lose much torque if its set 16/128k or 24/128k. trying to get my roma v2 to fly well. has some bounce back on pitch. roll and yaw seem fine. no dipping on thrusts , sounds clean and very little prop wash. some wobble on pitch as i descend. its my first time trying to tune at all. using sliders. still on 4.2
You would probably be surprised how much less of an oscillation you get in the step response when basement tuning a powerful racing rig and comparing 16 vs 48kHz low. Not only the big boys profit from the torque generated in the lower end. It's just more obvious because of the slow wobble. The next benefit you get is a powerful braking force on 16kHz. I think a lot of racing pilots, especially the very quick ones are not aware of that.
If you set low to 48khz there is no point to set it to by PWM because there is no variance between 48kHz low and 48kHz high. It does the same. Variable PWM frequency only make sense when low < high.
Thanks for the video, good info! As I thought - there will be small shakes/jello on forward flight. I would really love to see if you can tune them out, so plain forward flight becomes smooth. After all this is definitely a cruiser and it's supposed to fly straight most of the time. Right now from my perspective, those shakes are impossible to be fully removed by tune, because it's a physical property of the frame + motors + props combo
Hey boss I just built my 7in an I did what you suggested an when I arm my drone with no throttle it flips out crazy. I will sit an idle for few seconds then it does it again

Hi, I have exactly the same oscillations on my 6inch apex with f90 1500kv motors like in the end of the video, Iterm doesn't do absolutely anything to it. Both betaflight and emuflight doesn't make sense on this oscillations. I'll try to decrease pwm frequency but do not think that it's the reason for that. The most strange thing that it's all okay with traces in black box viewer
Then a frame issue or electrical. It is a tricky thing to tackle "The Shakes" as you have to pin down the source. - props? - frame? - electrical noise getting to gyro?
I'm having trouble with my 7" freestyle build - horrible oscillations in forward flight. They completely ruin footage despite gyroflow's best efforts. 2807 1300kv motors and around a kilo auw. But I ran 20% ramp-up and 16-48 PWM frequency. I tuned the esc, and I'll try it again on weekend. Apart from that it flies just perfect on stock bf 4.3

What to try...
great video! Thank you!!
i am running blheli_s with the jesc fw how would i change the pwm on that?
thanjks
Amazing tune man!!
You literally should called as tune man...
Went all the way up to 25 on anty gravity in BF 4.4..wobble seems to be gone after choping throttle down,1.8 on master slider.
can you tell me what settings are maybe good for blheli s
i am also getting shaking on punch out on my rekon7, it gets better as battery level drops
but i cant seem to tune it out
any ideas?
esc pwm frequency. I'll have to check that. Into the pid tuning folder.
I'm getting flyaways with this preset, any help?
1. us the low quality build filter option.
2. Reduce the master multiplier slider.
Yea I ended up going back down to 24khz to help with wobbles. & slowly messing with p&d.
I'm using a poorly design 8" I did.. 😆
I'm running inav on this
For something like a rekon35 or an eachine lr3. What tuning approach should I have? Should it be treated like a big quad or a small quad? thanks for your help, i love your videos
man i remember building my freestyle 7 inch with butterflight and it flew amazingly. i could lap right behind 5 inch race pilots!
Not understanding the question/statement.
1. Obviously, it matters who you are racing against. I'm sure it was not folks in the top 50.
2. ButtF is Beta with a different logo. Also way dead project not too (because a sham), so doesn't matter.
3. if a lot of long runs in the track (less technical) 7" is faster than 5"
they were pretty quick kids. went to the aus drone nationals 5 yrs ago. @@uavtech
Thanks Mark! She's flying way better. I did notice when on throttle there were some vibrations looking at the light poles. Anything you could do to fix that? J/W
By any chance you have a bmi270 board by hglrc?
@jdnic1 no I do not. But I was referring to Mark's quad in the video and how he got it to fly much better.
The motor vibrates, and it shook the video? What flight controller do you have?
Nice, thanks 👍🏻
I have my 10" low 16khz and high by rpm. Not sure if it goes all the way to 128k or stops lower
it will mostly sit at 16.
I realize 0 on the Dynamic Dampening is to make tuning easier. Do you put it back on once you find a good Dmax? 6" freestyle/cinematic quad.
I typically do not unless i want to re-jigger things to suppress D-gains. For a 6" not so much unless I have vibration issues I need to cover up (not ideal). For a cinelifter, YES in some cases because D-gains typically need to be very high.
I fly long distances straight. and close to the ground.
How can I set the motors to go faster?
i need this information
I enjoy watching your videos
Pitch forward more and give it more throttle.
Hello! tpa = 0.8 means that at 100% throttle the values will be 20% or 80% of the initial values?
80% reduction.
Hello! I have a strange problem with the pid tuning on a 7 inch quad. in simple words when I add Feed Forward it starts to oscillate and if I remove the FF completely the oscillations disappear. What does this all depend on?
Your RC inputs. Sounds like you have a choppy RX input.
@@uavtech thanks for your advice
@@MrBiaggio89 whatever RX link you are using, apply the corresponding Preset for it. If still oscillations, make sure the ADC filter is on in your Radio (assuming an firemware OpenTX radio)

I have CF diversity nano but a bit confused about locking 150hz or 50hz for long range

What Filters and ESC Settings did you use? Tja ks for reply 🙂
@@sickshots hi there I just installed BF4.3 loaded Mark Spats 6”-7” preset so what ever that makes the filters ie I didn’t touch the filter and left the PWM.. at 24hz😊👍
@@flipfpv4539 thanks! Will try the BF 4.4 Preset
chris rosser did a vid on pwm and has said a variable pwm freq. doesnt lose much torque if its set 16/128k or 24/128k. trying to get my roma v2 to fly well. has some bounce back on pitch. roll and yaw seem fine. no dipping on thrusts , sounds clean and very little prop wash. some wobble on pitch as i descend. its my first time trying to tune at all. using sliders. still on 4.2
The difference between 16/24 on torque is minor but why not going 16 and take all the torque you can get? There is no downside compared to 24.
@@marlin-fpv not all escs go down to 16. i have one locked at 48. one locked at 24.
Nice video as always
If you set low to 48khz there is no point to set it to by PWM because there is no variance between 48kHz low and 48kHz high. It does the same. Variable PWM frequency only make sense when low < high.
Thanks for the video, good info! As I thought - there will be small shakes/jello on forward flight. I would really love to see if you can tune them out, so plain forward flight becomes smooth. After all this is definitely a cruiser and it's supposed to fly straight most of the time. Right now from my perspective, those shakes are impossible to be fully removed by tune, because it's a physical property of the frame + motors + props combo

@@uavtech I’ll double check again once I get home. I’m using a iflight blitz 55a stack and I made one fetal mistake before I started changing stuff and I didn’t save the factory setting on my computer can I still get them back. @@endremurti need better description. Hard to maintain forward movement is to vague.
How about the rpm filter activation is it mandatory (in the preset )? My motor getting hot fast when first hover i mean when i just fly my quad for first with stock pid before your video
@@uavtech im not sure ,i think my battery placement also make it worse ,maybe my lipo is to close to the tail ,still not put any gopro and the battery also to light weight
Also if you have an old bmi270 flight controller your motor would vibrate no matter how much you tune it try replacing your flight controller with a recently released flight controller, older flight controller have bad PCB design and have less noise tolerance.
It's prop vibration. The high freq parts get filtered out, but the low freq. still remains. Need to address mechanically/electrically.
@@uavtech I tried 6030 6045 and there is no difference in the vibrations. motors are perfectly balanced
Focus on the prop balance.
@@uavtech oh.. so it's just unbalanced props? Why doesn't it show at any other throttle position? And can you recommend some props that don't need much balancing, or any at all? I tried dalprop cyclone T7056, gemfan flash 7040-3 and 7042-2
HQ tri-blades always seem to work the best for me. Not perfect always, but generally pretty close to well balanced.
Hi thanks for the video. I'm new to quads, under a year flying, and i just built a yakuza shadow with 7" arms that was gifted to me. Used BF4.3 on the supafly 7 preset but have tons of vibration. Im thinking its cause i used bi blade props. Have ordered tri blades to see if that work. If not going to try your pwm freq adjustment and then you tune. I dont really understand tuning at all so preset loading and your video will be my go to. If you dont mind checking out my video i would love to hear your opinion.
Are you supposed to be getting ready to punch the quad in this thumbnail?🤔 huge supporter of you!
yes.
How to Fix??

По мне основная проблема на этом кваде это вибрации сильные от моторов рамы пропов и в первую очередь надо избавляться от них. У меня никогда 7ка так плохо не летала. Даже с плохими пидами.

This video is perfectly timed, I’ve just built a quad using an iflight stack and it’s got these damn slow oscillations off throttle and after flips and rolls, I’ve tried adjusting everything and they just will not go away… I can have perfect PD ratio for flips/ rolls and it just stays there, I managed to reduce it significantly with 0.2 iterm and then off throttle the drone just wanders… I have Jazz Maverick on the ESC but it doesn’t give me the option to adjust PWM, I’m wondering if that’s causing it because I’ve tried three different motors, two different props and two different frames and it just will not go away.
This is a 5” too
Я вижу, что квадрокоптер стал летать лучше. Но очень сильные вибрации на камере, такое трудно смотреть. Это не настроенный квад, это плохо.
Thanks mark im trying your preset for 7” on my apex LR flies pretty good but im getting a little frequency frame noise or something about 1/4 to 1/2 half throttle any recommendations on what to try & adjust ? Thanks for the great videos
