When I was in college, my favorite class was Art History from primitive art to modern art. My teacher was phenomenal, we were studying the Baroque period. We learned more than just paintings and statues. We saw a lot of artwork of saints and learned how they became saints. And if I remember correctly, Saint Sebastian is celebrated on Valentines Day.
Also we don't worship the saints, that's a common misconception like Mary, we ask them to help us intercede to God and Jesus on our behalf . Think of it as asking a friend to pray for you on an issue while you also pray, the idea is that more prayer and that those closer to God than us can help pray
“We” being Roman Catholics. Many other types of Christianity honour of the Saints, they just don’t pray to them because they believe that they can pray directly to God themselves
@@MFLimitedWhen you say “pray directly to God” you make it sound like we replace God or put the Saints before God. That is not the case. God is the central focus of everything we do, and that includes even praying to the Saints. We never ask the Saint to help us by “there power” but by the power and glory of our one shared God. Yes, technically all you need is God but it never hurts to humble yourself and ask a friend for help as well. God gave us the Saints for a reason so you’d be missing out by not asking for their intercession to help us obtain sainthood.

Would be interesting to show a video on the Theban legion made up of Egyptian Christians. They were decimated twice before all 6000 were put to death. There commanders all became saints including St Maurice which is now a rich ski resort in Switzerland.
People! we does not worship saints, we get inspired by them and ask them for prayers because they are gloried by god, for their victory over the world in Christ's name and for doing God'swill in there lives (which few would have the strength to do and endure), so simply we honor them and ask them for help as brothers and sisters who have walked the path of perfection in God's name. That's it all! I dont understand why some people have this hatred towards them if you cant be like them respect there faith and holiness in God's name because they're an image of god as you all are but the difference they knew how to be it..!
There's really not much talk about St. Sebastian in modern times. Due to artworks of combinations of his strong, shirtless physique, the symbolism of the arrows penetrating his body, and the countenance of rapturous pain have intrigued artists (gay or otherwise) for centuries; St. Sebastian has been adopted by the LGBT community. There's a British latin language film on him from 1976 that's completely homoerotic, and not really telling his story.
Psalm 11:2 For, behold, the wicked bend the bow, They make ready their arrow upon the string To shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. Sebastian should have rallied his friends among the Praetorian Guards and launched a coup to overthrow Diocletian. He wouldn't have been the first Praetorian commander to do so. He could have ushered in an age of Christian enlightenment to Rome decades before Constantine.
That would not have solved the problem, in fact only made it worse. That would be power for power sake like the Roman pagan gods, rather than showing the kingdom Jesus made was not against secular rule. The blood of those who died in Jesus's name showed to many the truth of the faith and the sheer miracle of Constantine's victory helped prove the truth of Jesus as savior.
@djfanboyLIVE... Catholicism didn't come about until after the reign of Constantine. The Catholic Church is the first organized Christian Church. Catholics believe in the Salvation that comes through Jesus Christ and in him alone. What passes for Christianity nowadays is NO WHERE near what it was during the Roman Empire. I highly doubt modern day American and European Christians would last even one second of what early Christians had to endure.
Catholicism is the original incarnation of the Christian faith and Sebastian is revered in it and all subsequent Christian sects which have since appeared as he was martyred prior to any of the schisms or Protestant Reformation
See here is the issue. You said he was worshipped. Incorrect. That's only a Catholic and Orthodox thing who commit blasphemy and idolatry by worshipping the dead and the angels and other beings. This is not Biblical Christianity for God of the Bible from front to back demands all to worship him and him alone. Those who pray to anyone but the Father the Son and Holy Spirit commit sin. Period. And the only way to prove it or disprove it is in the Bible. Not traditions of men.
