    I miss Singapore. Haven’t been back for 20yrs. You’re right about small talk. I remembered saying hi how are you when I was at a supermarket check out line to the cashier and she looked at me funny.

    • @dashingheights
      @dashingheights  3 месяца назад +5

      Omg that reminds me of my first time in Australia, I was also checking out at the supermarket. The cashier asked me how I was and I started telling her I had been having a bad day since the morning. She definitely regretted asking.
      Come back soon!!

      @@dashingheightsThat's how it works in Poland too. People generally don't do small talk with strangers, but if you ask someone "how are you" they will start answering seriously. And in Poland we LOVE to complain.

      Thank you for your kind words!!! Generally in Singapore people don't like talking to strangers on the street.
      When I was visiting in US/AU often times strangers would come up and strike up a conversation, however this is not the norm in SG.
      If you'd like to meet and talk with locals, I recommend joining interest groups such as photography / hiking, where people would meet up and do an activity together. In such environment people are more comfortable to chit chat :)

    You said it’s more convenient to use credit card to pay for transportation, and each travelor need to use different cards, I am traveling with 2 kids age 9 and 11. Would buying tourist pass be more helpful to the young Trever or?

    • @dashingheights
      @dashingheights  Месяц назад +1

      the STP is only worthwhile if you're gonna use the other discounts that come with it. For pure transportation alone it's unlikely you'll spend that much per day.
      So best case is if you have spare credit cards for them to use.
      If your trip is 3 days or less, maybe STP is still more convenient
      If your trip is longer than that, EZ-link card will be cheaper

      Only necessary if you plan to EXIT the transit area through immigration.
      If you're spending a layover wholly inside the airport transit area you don't have to fill up SGAC.

    For Grab or other ride apps in SIN, do you know if the drivers allow a family of 7 (5 adults and 2 child under 11) to ride on 6 Seats?

      In terms of safety against crime, yes safe.
      There are very few shops that does not support cash.
      In every train station, theres a machine to top up your card. You can also do this at every train station office, the staff will help you. I have another video about public transport that covers this ^^ ruclips.net/video/flgV3FQrOCk/видео.htmlsi=Z9sKwjA7QFsqyFJp

      what passport are you holding? if you have an entry visa into the country you can exit the airport and re-enter for your connecting flight.
      the Jewel is in the public area, so you can come anytime, though I suggest just exploring Jewel on your last day. Do an early-check-in, depending on your airline see how early you can do so.

      @dashingheights thank you very much. I have a Fijian passport, which is visa free. Since I will land in Singapore at 5.20am and most of the attractions will be closed at that time. I was thinking to exit the airport, come and explore it the next afternoon. I will travel to Malaysia via bus on the third day. Kindly advise. Thanks

    • @dashingheights
      @dashingheights  Месяц назад

      If you're planning to just have a good rest and get on with the cruise the next day,
      I recommend Outram Park area, personally i used Dorset: affiliate.klook.com/redirect?aid=60453&aff_adid=971590&k_site=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.klook.com%2Fen-SG%2Fhotels%2Fdetail%2F396992-dorsett-singapore%2F (it's an affiliate link)
      Reasons:
      1. Directly connected to Outram Park Train station, which is on the green line, very easy to take a straight train from Changi Airport
      2. It's also near to both the cruise ports in SG, direct Purple line to harbourfront OR 1x transfer to Marina cruise center
      If you're booking via KLOOK you could use my discount code ^^ "DASHINGHEIGHTSKLOOK"
      Though you might need to create a new account and set the account's region as SINGAPORE to get it to work..
      BONUS TIP:
      - if you have the night free to explore, check out Keong Saik road, you might find a nice dinner spot there
      - If the morning before your cruise is free, walk down to Everton Park or Chinatown
      ENJOY!!!!

    Hello!Loved all the tips on this video. Do you think someone traveling alone to stay in Katong is ok? Is that a good area to stay for 6 days? I'm going to a show in the National Stadium, and im afraid to book a hotel there, and it'll be hard to come back by using public transportation. Can you help me please?

    • @dashingheights
      @dashingheights  2 месяца назад +1

      heya, thanks for your comment ^^
      Katong is a great place for food gems, esp along joo chiat. there's a nice row of peranakan houses too.
      But these places are not the easiest to find especially if it's your first time.
      Indeed it's difficult to take the bus or train after a concert. However from my experience the train and buses could still manage so I feel that it's not a limitation for you to MUST have a hotel nearby the stadium itself.
      Unless you are planning to walk to your hotel after your concert, in which you could try Geylang area (but beware avoid booking hotel on "Lor 18', there are many adult entertainment spot there). or slightly further is haji lane/arab street.
      PERSONALLY if i were you i will just choose one of the areas in my recent video about where to stay, since you'll be here 6 days, you'll only have to worry about transport on your concert day. The other days you can happily enjoy exploring! ^^

      As long as you like! Personally i suggest exploring the airport on your way OUT, so that you don’t have to carry your luggages around after you check them in. Many of the exhibits are 24 hours. For Transport,
      Taking Bus : Never board the bus at the back or the bus driver think you are fare evading unless you have a valid reason.
      E.g : You are on the wheelchair, the front of the bus is occupied. Tap when entering the bus. Always plan which bus route are you taking.
      Taking Train : It is recommended to plan the route as it would be easier to get to the station and you can save money. If you need to change lines, stop at the station with the line you are changing. The train lines are usually connected. When entering the station. Tap in the fare gate and follow signs to the train station if needed.
      Do Note you must have enough money and it is recommended to use a card as buses sometimes do not have anymore tickets that you can buy. Tickets have a limited amount of stop which I know is inconvenient but you have to deal with it if you are buying a ticket.
