  • In this video, I take an up-close look at the newly released Omega Speedmaster "First Omega In Space" edition, launched on October 3rd, 2024. This timepiece is a tribute to the iconic watch worn by astronaut Wally Schirra during the Mercury-Atlas 8 mission in 1962-the first Omega watch to be worn in space. Omega has crafted this modern homage with a vintage-inspired design, combining space exploration heritage with cutting-edge craftsmanship.
    Join me as I dive into the details of this 2024 release, including its stainless steel case, the signature black chronograph dial, and the hand-wound Caliber 3861 movement. Whether you're a Speedmaster collector or a space history enthusiast, this piece is sure to impress.

    684. I actually picked up your channel from watching the Tudor BB41 video. Im considering that watch or a Speedy as a 50th birthday gift to myself. My Rolex GMT Master II needs a friend. I was going to buy a DJ41 but i'm too old to play those games. I also tried on the large Santos and that thing is sweeet!

    • @BlueCollarLuxe

      I am with you, Rolex is the goal for me but I refuse to pay more for a pre-owned watch than it cost new. If ever they get it together and I can pick one up new I am going to get an Explorer 2. I think with all three of your choices you can't go wrong but since you already have the GMT Master II if you were to ask for my opinion I would say add a Chronograph to the mix and go with the Speedmaster. It is such a great watch and a true pleasure to wear. Thank you so much for supporting the channel!

    The dial and bezel of the FOIS is exactly the same size as the Speedy Pro. What is different is the asymmetrical case of the Pro which is what makes it 2mm bigger.

      I’m learning from people in the comments that the bezel and dial are the same size as the professional. The watch is just missing the crown guards. I think this may be one of those must see in person watches. Thank you so much for watching!

  • @M3_86
    @M3_86 3 дня назад +2

    I checked it out vs the one I bought recently. It’s pretty dope.
    I dial / bezel is the same size as the professional. The difference in the 42 vs 39.7 is actually the crown guards only isn’t it? Also the straight lugs are slightly longer lug to lug. When I put in the professional it wears smaller in my opinion!

    This is a 48 lug to lug, which fits perfectly on my 7 1/4 inch wrist. 48 lug to lug is going to work just fine for people with 6 1/2 to 8 inches wrist.

    • @BlueCollarLuxe
      @BlueCollarLuxe  2 дня назад +2

      Agreed 100% with you on that I have a 7.5" wrist and would still wear this watch but I do think it is a bit small. I just learned from a few viewers that this watch is the same as the professional minus the crown guard and maybe that is it but I can tell you that I had the 40mm Speedmaster Racing and it was 48mm lug to lug and looked much smaller on the wrist than the professional does. I still love this watch though! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

    • @Fsb746

      I haven't seen it in person. Do you think it will fit my 6" wrist?

    • @BlueCollarLuxe
      @BlueCollarLuxe  2 дня назад +1

      May look a little big on a 6” wrist but the short lug to lug really helps the speedmaster wear smaller than most watches in this size range.

  • @gloss1806
    @gloss1806 3 дня назад +2

    It's hilarious that this version of the speedmaster was released too small, while the Bulova Lunar Pilot was re-released and still considered to be too large. These watches in space just can't get it right lol.

    • @BlueCollarLuxe
      @BlueCollarLuxe  3 дня назад

      This is a great point! I personally would add the Luna pilot to my collection just because of its history but it’s just too big. If they made a 40mm, 41mm version, I’d buy it immediately!

  • @thedalebury
    @thedalebury 2 дня назад +1

    The difference in case width between this and the Professional is simply the omission of the asymmetric guard that surrounds the crown and pushers. The bezel and dial is the same size on both watches. So if the 42mm Professional works for your wrist, then I don't see why this wouldn't.

    • @BlueCollarLuxe
      @BlueCollarLuxe  2 дня назад +1

      I’m going to get down to Omega and try one on. You are the fourth person to bring this to my attention so I need to check it out for sure. Crazy thing is the 40 mm racing wears much smaller than the professional so I assumed this would as well. Thank you so much watching and taking the time to comment!

    • @thedalebury
      @thedalebury 2 дня назад +1

      @@BlueCollarLuxeI hope the watch gods shine down on you for a perfect fit. But if not, for a larger classic iconic chronograph I cannot recommend enough the B01 Navitimer. Comes in 41mm, 43mm and 46mm, the movement is rock solid, the vertical clutch means you can run the chrono til your heart’s content, and above all it’s a thing of beauty and is not overly common. It’s been out since 2022 so you can get it for a decent price these days. The thing you need to be mindful of is not getting it too wet…its rotating slide rule bezel is its weak point, so is only 30m water resistant. I just wish it had micro adjust, but hey, we survived without it for many years.

    I think it looks nice, but I bet it looks particularly good in person. I'd still prefer a Mark XX, but I do think the FOiS is nice. I'm also iffy on Omega using fauxtina and aluminum bezels to "look old". To bring up another IWC, I think the Spitfire did fauxtina best. Less "faux" and more "aesthetic".
    The crystal is badass. And I like the bracelet a lot.
    (I have a dark, almost black, blue SMP with real patina'd indices, which I bought as a "Space City" watch)

      I love IWC but honestly they do it so well it doesn’t look aged, it looks fresh. The FOIS actually kinda looks aged. New aged but aged! I’m with you, the bracelet does look bad ass! I’d love to try one out for a week or so and see how it wears.

    I think it's a great watch, both functionally and stylistically. $7,900? There are probably a lot of other watches from $1.00 - $8,000 i'd put on my list higher than this one. Then again, i've never held one. I've seen them in person, but never handled one. Sometimes that changes everything haha.

      Functionality wise it’s just a chronograph but it’s hard to beat Omega when it comes to movements. The problem is that pricing on all watches has just gotten out of control! Hands down it’s a cool watch but I wouldn’t call it a bargain. Thank you so much for watching!

    Omega has Rolex beat in accuracy, why not power reserve? It seems the 10 year-old 8800 & 8900 movements should have a power reserve of at least 75 to 85 hours, no?

    • @BlueCollarLuxe
      @BlueCollarLuxe  День назад

      Honestly I don't think Omega cant get more power out of the 8800 and the 8900 especially considering that they already have a pretty slow beat rate, 25,00 vph @ 3.5HZ where Rolex DJ41 is 28,800 at 4hz. but 55hrs on the 8800 and 60hrs on the 8900 aren't so bad and the 8900, has a jump hour hand. Both are top notch movements so it doesn't bother me much. I love Rolex but they were so proud when they got to 1000 gauss they made the milguass to commemorate the moment. Omega give you 15,000 guass standard and to me that is much more important to keeping a watch running well especially if you work around anything magnetic. Not to mention, the service interval of Omega is double that of Rolex.

      No I've owned Omega and still own 2 Rolex. My Omega Seamaster had to be serviced twice in 5 years. My EXP1 114270 is from 2007 and hasn't even been serviced yet. My Submariner 14060m is from 2003. Only had one service. Both are running ➕ 1 a day. My Omega was nothing but problems. Rolex movement's are watchmaker movement's and don't even get me started on the terrible bezel action and the Seamaster bracelet that weighs a ton
