Chad does your mind get any rest ? Your mind is crazy artistic ! This concept of that Hudson now more appealing to the world ! Jolene thanks for your time and effort on filming editing and all sorts of work ! Chad couldn't do this without you you give him balance !Thumbs-up Jolene and Chad great build and content !
Hi there, I'm a Carpentier but once in a while i do work with metal and what really worked for me it's first paint the metal with muriatic acid, let It for a few minutes, then paint it with hydrogen peroxide, the Rust Will show immediately. Me and my son watch the show every day for a long time. You guys aré the real deal. Cheers from Patagonia Argentina.
Man I love your content, The Chat though has too much negativity. You would think by now that the followers would know that you are a professional and can think things through on the fly. You are an inspiration to all of us who watch to learn new things. I am 71 and still building Rods . Plan on starting another this spring if the wife don't object to much. You and Jolene are the best, keep it up and never give up. As always great camera work Jolene. I hope Chad finishes the Bugatti soon, you deserve it. Thanks for reading.
Chad you can always sand the paint by hand with 400 to 600 grit until you get back to the floor then add the vinager to get the rusty look you are looking for!! 🥹😁👍
Hey Chad, really like your work. I recently painted a bike tank to look old and used. If you don't mind, I would like to give you a tip for worn, distressed patina paint. Use some carpet foam cleaner to cover a few spots before painting. After that wipe it away and take some rags or towels soaked in vinegar. Put some salt over a few spots, cover them with the vinegar towels and let them sit for a couple of hours to days. When the rust is to your liking, take a brass or steel brush and have some fun in different spots. Randomly Cover it with some carpet cleaner foam and paint again. The finished piece will look distressed. Keep that artistic work going. Best regards from Germany. Have a good one 🤙🏼
Going to be the nicest Hudson 4 door terraplane out there... IMHO..already is stylistically. Everyone has an opinion, myself included. However, if you listened to what the chopnotzi,s suggest, it wouldn,t exist at all. Thank,s for the smiles, chadnjo...keep up the good work..l look forward to your vids everyday. Thanx again.
Would have been better to make a tire sized cardboard circle, and trim that to the profile of the fender. You’d get to see exactly where the slot should be positioned before cutting.
The trim piece you had taped to the fender skirts looked nice. Maybe the round feature of it could be in line with center of tire under the skirt. Just to break up the large surface and add a little bling.
Chad your vision of this car is on going .your talent is tremendous.your explanation of everything you do is spot on .the love of what you do is insurmountable can't wait to see this going down the road one day .and Jolene thank you for all your work videoing and editing the transition of this beautiful Hudson Terraplane watching your every move from eastern ontario
Oh, this is a nice touch, Chad & Jolene. Might want to mount & inflate the tire before buttoning it up and welding the inside pan. It will be a little wider, yes? This will look beautiful!
The color of the Hudson was called Ocean Blue. You can find the different color mix info on the color charts. Most Hudsons used 4 different color paints to make the final color including Ocean Blue. Sidemounts are a great addition. Most sidemounts sit with the exposed part of the wheel a few inches above the centerline of the wheel. So a little less than half the wheel is inside the fender but it depends on how deep the fender is. Also to achieve this they mount them close to the door opening so door can still open and have them sit back in fender to stay clear of front wheels. Your opening width is not enough to clear the tire with air in it.
😂 I’m afraid to cut it as I grab the cutter. I know I will never be able to find a fender like this…. Knowing he can build one out of scrap metal. Brilliant creative craftsmanship!
Hey Chad, a good reference to go by is, always add about 1in for the sake of a tire on a wheel with air..Beautiful work!! I'm getting ready to start working on a 65 Buick Skylark 2dr hdtp sports coupe.. Going with a blown big block buick on 29-10.50r15s. Custom paint and audio. Haven't decided yet on suspension kit. But it is definitely going to be a sweet machine when it gets done..
Hey Chad you would really enjoy a big bench and especially if it was level for welding. I use a 8 ft by 16 ft bench for upholstery . You will wonder why you waited so long to build it . Rick
Normally, the tops of the sidemounts should be no higher than the beltline mouldings. If you make them level with the top of the hood, they will be too high and will look odd.
That's the problem with the Terraplane compared to the Hudson Eight, the sidemounts were too high due to the shorter front guards not leaving space for the sidemounts to be mounted lower down because they'd get too close to the front tire.
@@JoshB-jt7xe In the '30s, sidemounts, and even most rear mounted spares, were under metal coverings that were painted body color. What if Chad got a set of old covers, cut them down some so there would be adequate clearance, and just mounted them as dummy sidemounts?
Hey chad, for the vinegar next time, use a spray bottlle, put on enough to wet it, let that dry, and repeat til ya get the desired effect. And maybe steel wool or scotch brite, you could dull that skirt, and then polish it more to remove whatever paint ya want, to make the more realistic edge and the spray bottle the vinegar there. dig the skirt shape tho, after ya put on the tails, to match the body lines.
The color match looks good to me Chad, not bad for a fabricator 😂 But I’m half blind so🤷🏻♂️ Great job as always Jolene putting us right there 👍 Hey Fina❣️
As your harshest judge Chad 😉 I can see where your going with this.. I like it . Must look at you coming back to OZ and doing some RUclips builds. Costings wages would need to be looked at. But I know you have a massive Aussie fan base that would support it Dreamtime stuff. This project started with... What the hell is Chad doing... Now it looks the goods... Cheers. Dougo.

Always nice to see Mz Jolene's handiwork while filming. She inserted the photo showing the side mounted tire at just the right moment. She has become such a consummate pro. Kudos, Mz Jolene!
Chad been watching this progress and was wondering whats next!! I was imagining this and moving the headlamps into the guards too but kept my yap shut coz theres a lot more perspiration than inspiration and you got both in spades mate
Spare wheel looks great. I'm a big fan of a balanced look, a spare on each fender is a going to look wonderful. I know it was an optical illusion, but the car looked stretched when you dropped the tire in the pocket. Going to be a high rollers ride for sure. Move over Bonnie and Clyde, Jolene and Chad are taking over.
sand the skirt in places,,, brush the bare metal with MURIATIC ACID,, rinse with water after 5-10 minutes and it'll rust... i do hardware for my old motorcycles when i want old patina.. good work both you and jolene
Looking to do side mounts to my MK3 Humber Super Snipe, watching this one very closely, good on you for giving it a go. As for adding patina I always put yogurt on bare metal to make it rust faster.
Need to mount & air up tire. It will get wider.also need to drop it down where the top of the tire is even with TOP of hood side panel. Everyone to their own ideas though. You & Jolene do great work.
Chad, don't forget the drill weep holes in the spare tire holder. And if you spot Prime the welds with your finger where you did the chop and some of the paint will stay on with the primer and the other paint will Rust in the other areas where there will be bare metal. If you put the blue over that where you primed it the paint will stay and where you don't prime it it will Rust that way it won't look like line of rust where you chopped it. You're doing a great job just my suggestion. You and Jolene go

Chad, I got to give it to you. When you said skirts I thought “uck” but boy does it give that old gal class. The fender mounts are going to an even higher level. Enjoy watching you create.
If you put an straight edge across from the front of the cut to the back of the cut and measure at the center of the arch of the fender you get the height of the arch.
I think it's just a little too high still, especially considering this old beauty's got a chopped roof. If the top of the tyre was level with the beltline or mid-way between the belt line and the top of the bonnet (hood) it would be far more pleasing to the eye and look like it's going fast while sitting still :P Love ya work still Chad, keep up the great cinematography Jolene 11/10 :P
Side mount would look better a little lower in the fender. Fender well will need to be wider to fit the inflated tire. Nothing has been so badly altered that it can't be "fixed." If you don't like the look that's fine. Remember they are out there making content for folks to enjoy. If you're really that offended then turn off the computer and go out to the shop and work on your own car. As always, Jolene is doing an awesome job on the camera.
I am not a big fan of fender skirts on from 30’s and 40s cars like this, but can you put the paint on? Just watched you cutting the hole in the fender for the spare. I noticed the tire seems to be a tight fit. If you mount it on a rim won't the tire be a little wider when you air it up making harder to place in the hole. Hope this was a helpful comment.
great job as always Chad, could you not leave then long n put like a buckle laches on them to attach another one to go over the top to incase the hole wheel like in the picture?

Chad have you any thought to access to the motor? The butterfly bonnet may be a major annoyance to everyday type maintenance. Good luck. P.S. Consider fitting 52/53 Cadillac rear tailight mounts on the guards , The very small fins would suit the body style.
Years back when i painted, I would but a drop or two of gasoline in my paint to flatten out the color, now i understand they make flatteners to dull up the paint a bit. To get a nice wear on the paint, tie the shirt to a ATV or some field vehicle and drag it around for a bit in the grass and dirt!

with a black sharpie draw the rust pattern you would like to see on the rear fender. use a hand held sandblaster on your pattern. sandblast until grey metal... no shine.... spray vinegar. this will give you the look your after.
Car is looking good. Reminds me of a car you would see in an old time movie. One with a tuxedo and a woman with one of those cigarette’s with the holder thing. Good looking car man.
I think you were right when you said it needs to come a bit towards the door - say an inch, or a half, off the rear of the slot would take it down and back. But what do I know !
Not sure if anyone else has said Chad but if you want rust fast and I mean within an hour you need to mix Hydrogen peroxide with white vinegar and a little salt and apply to bare steel with a small spray bottle . It will start to rust before your very eyes 😊
Lightly Mist the skirts with some matt black and then wipe it with some rags before it dries... it will blend the fresh paint in with the gritty look of the rest of the car.
Very interesting video. Throw some dirt on the fender skirts and they will be a better match to rest of the car that is dirty. They are way to shiny seeing them on the video.
Mr Bad Chad ,how l which you would paint this beautiful classic car . That would really bring out its awesome Beauty, and the fender skirts looks great, thanks
I have to admit in beginning my heart hurt to see that survivor cut up but if you don’t go to much further and save it classic integrity I might be able to watch some more just please put it on the road and drive a real clasic

Keep in mind that the tire will be wider when mounted and inflated. It's going to look fantastic!
You're right.
there was a time when they were just the tires without being mounted on a rim, probably going back a decade or two from this cars life
that's exactly what i was thinking too
Chad you can always sand the paint by hand with 400 to 600 grit until you get back to the floor then add the vinager to get the rusty look you are looking for!! 🥹😁👍
Perfect the air will hold the tire in place. Or maybe just tack weld the wheel to the fender.

You can buy new windshield rubber for these cars. Or why not just glue some clear plastic in place? It would look like a windshield

Agreed
Or maybe add a spare on the trunk lid? And a roof rack! Dual antennas for sure. And some sort of way cool homemade hood ornament!
42:31 careful man safety first.....a 10k rpm cut off wheel hand tightened.....you got your Queen standing right there right in the line of fire

The fender skirts look awesome!
Will be a very unique Hudson, don't forget once the tires is on the rim and inflated probably will grow some on the width.
Would love to see Chad starting the paint job Bugatti!
same here!! although I must admit to enjoying this build as it progresses...we just have to be patient😂😂

Car is looking good. Reminds me of a car you would see in an old time movie. One with a tuxedo and a woman with one of those cigarette’s with the holder thing. Good looking car man.
The car looks rad as. When you started the chop I thought slam it dummy lights splats and side spares. And you do it. The car looks awesome.
wheel skirts look good-just a little sanding and rusting would help
Idk about the spares. One on the back maybey. Too late now.
You should put a tub bottom in the fender to get support for the tire&wheelwell!
If you use the step shrinker would be the best! you just need to make it into a step shrinker and you'll want to use it more.
I think you were right when you said it needs to come a bit towards the door - say an inch, or a half, off the rear of the slot would take it down and back. But what do I know !
The top came out very good and I think the tire mounts are a great idea.
Love your work and the vision that brings it all together, genius is a humbling thing and you do it well sir!!
This looks so cool love what you have done
Watching with anticipation on your vision. Going to look great when you are done. Thanks.
Very interesting video. Throw some dirt on the fender skirts and they will be a better match to rest of the car that is dirty. They are way to shiny seeing them on the video.
it's your car does as you like
You can always weld the piece back in but I hope it work cause that's what you want to do an it's your car bro!
Turned an every day car into a piece of class. This one really shows your talent 👌
Mr Bad Chad ,how l which you would paint this beautiful classic car . That would really bring out its awesome Beauty, and the fender skirts looks great, thanks
They use electrolysis bath to remove rust. It can also be used to add rust ( by reversing the voltage) . It could rustify the wheel spat?
It needs a Fenton sun visor now !
I'm wondering if he is making it wide enough for when the tire is blown up.
I have to admit in beginning my heart hurt to see that survivor cut up but if you don’t go to much further and save it classic integrity I might be able to watch some more just please put it on the road and drive a real clasic
Using the trailer fenders was PURE GENIUS! From an old fabricator!
Please don't forget to put a drain in the side mount.
Looking really nice with that ideal of side mount,'s sharp .I would like to try that on my 36 Chevy two door👍
You better have a quick release on those spare tires in case you have an engine fire
My bad, that looks good!
Get the right size trailer fender, turn upside down for the tire well and fill in the sides to bottom of car fender.
Been there done that ,,, 57 Caddy trunk well ,worked great ....
