Hey Lauren 😊 I’m a general dentist not an orthodontist. But from my experience, most orthodontist offices have an intraoral scanner now that can scan your teeth and 3D print your retainers if you don’t want impressions. The scanner head is a bit large but most patients with a strong gag refex like it more than an impression! Hoping they give you this option 😅

ive had Invisalign and when i got my platic retainer almost two years ago they actually used this machine to make a 3D scan of my mouth instead of using that gag thingy to make a mold, it was super fast and WAY easier

I totally gagged the whole time the last time I had impressions made for my day guard 😂 My poor RDA coworker lololol.
It helps to clench your fists and wiggle your toes during the process! But another option if you choose to get a full on night guard is that most offices have 3D scanners now. The wand that is used is a little thick (most noticeable when the back teeth are scanned) but can be more comfortable and I don’t gag with them.
A night guard is a thicker version of a removable retainer that would be great if you both grind and clench your teeth at night but a removable retainer would do the job if you just clench. With both options, your teeth stay in place 👍🏼

Hygienist here! Patients with gagging concerns can opt to do an itero scan instead of an impression (if this option is available at your office.)
The itero scan is like a wand that takes thousands of images of your teeth and creates a 3D digital model of what your teeth look like/how you bite! This can have a longer turn over than an impression because the model must be created in a lab, but the benefit of it is the model will stay on file at your orthodontic office so if you ever lose your retainer, you can just call them and have they make a new one based on the model! It’s a much more comfortable option. Hope this helps!

daughter of a dental assistant here 🙋♀️ two tips i know for gagging (also as someone with emetephobia) is to make a fist with your non dominant hand and clasp your thumb in the middle, or another technique is to curl your toes. doesn’t work for everyone but i have found the hand one helpful in times of need!! ❤ love u sm laur

I got married in February, I wore ColourPop's Fresh Kiss Glossy Lip Stain in "Ice Pop"! I got three colors to try, haha, and that one was the perfect rosy neutral I was going for. I bought and tried so many different products and doodads leading up to the wedding! I don't know if it's more distressing how many things didn't get used, or how many DID! One thing we absolutely needed: I had a mini sewing kit. My ring bearer popped off multiple buttons before the ceremony and my sister's fiancée sat there sewing them all back on. Crisis averted!

Lauren!!! For a lip product that won’t transfer I def recommend SACHEU’s lip liner stay-n. My lips are dry af and I wear it all over my lip! Even just balm over it is great. They should have it at Ulta!

Dental student here! Some offices use digital scanners now so you don't have to deal with the mold at all! But if your dentist still uses those impressions, there are numbing sprays that you can use on the back of your throat which should help a lot:)
I got a new retainer after like 10 years and they didn’t use a mold. They used this wand looking camera tool to take in-depth photos of each teeth and did everything digitally
They used the same thing when I got my retainers too. But when I got my braces with the original orthodontist they used the mold. It was when the original orthodontist moved across the country around 2019-2020 another orthodontist took over that they upgraded to that that camera tool thing. I guess some places haven’t updated yet

The lip product that I have tried and literally stays on for days is Minty Beauty lip duo, it does say matte but it’s actually quite hydrating and the Mirabella lip liners. They are smudge proof! I can attest to it.
The revlon colorstay satin ink is super good too. I wore it yesterday and ate and drank and it still stayed on.

I literally JUST got my permanent retainer wires removed too!! They had this high tech scanner that does a 3D print (I was scared of the pink goo too) for the clear retainers and it was so easy. Worst part was just the removal of the wires but it’s just drills lol

you can pay a little extra for them to make a 3d scan of your teeth, and they’ll print your teeth out 3d and make the retainer off that, and you get to keep the 3d mold so if you break or loose your retainer you can bring that in and they’ll make a new one. So you only have to pay the extra once for the 3d scan

Hi Lauren. Regarding your lingual retainer (permanent). It sounds like the bonding wore down throughout time. That a good bond if it has held that long though. When you get that bonded back on, cut in small pieces and don't bite with your front teeth. The remaining glue from the lingual is weird and rough. It will feel better once you get the retainer back on. I used to work in an orthodontics office for years. So don't sweat or stress. It will be ok.
Oh, the stuff they use to mold your teeth is called alginate. Unless the office uses something else. 😉

Recently got a retainer here, my dentist used a electronic scanner thing to make them. I'm not 100% sure but I think you can find a way to not have to mold your teeth with the goo. You should look into it.
If you have time to order and test more lip stuff maybe look into korean lip tints. There's ink velvet by peripera that stained my hand for 2 days

I’m currently wearing one and it helps a lot!! My girlfriend told me about them and I love it. I can wear my shoes and not worry about the blister getting worse. Regular bandaids made it worse.

My favorite long lasting lip product is the Jeffree Star liquid lip. They don't dry your lips and stay on until I take it off.
For prom i used a satin finish stila liquid lip, its fantastic and didnt move - i hate super drying mate liquid lips and this one was not horrible given how long it lasted. Im a huge texture person aswell and genuinley swear by it and know there were beautiful pinky browns in it at the time - not sure the exact product name Ive also heard MUA tips and tricks about layering your liquid lip, then a transparent power and a literal ice bath?? Idk if im riffing but i swear ive heard people vouch it locks it in. Also i used a small makeup brsuh to apply mine so that i dont have TOO much product, i find when theres alot and you use the product applicator it fills all the cracks and creases which is why i typically hate liquid lips

For your lip products I will say the maybelline super stay matte lipstick is definitely a good one because I’ve used that one before and even after I thought I got it off it was still on my lips the next day so it definitely works to stay for really long😄

Okay so putting the lil rainbow cake on Kelsey’s tray while saying “gay” over and over reminds me of my mom after I told her I was a lesbian. She didn’t love it at first, but after a few months she started giving me lil rainbow gifts or things she crafted randomly, and I knew at that point that she loved and accepted me lol.

Certified orthodontic assistant here hi 👋🏼 🥰 i used to watch your channel yearsss ago and i just found it again! You can get scanned for a 3d model to be made of your teeth and they suck down the retainer off of that. Find an orthodontist office who can scan for 3d models for retainers and you wont need to take ANY molds of your teeth. NO traumas 😊👍🏼👍🏼
Also i RARELY have anyone gag in my chair it’s about the technique and how you fill the tray and where you fill it. And my retainers come out great. BUT scanning avoids the bad experience entirely.

Maybelline are sticky at times. Can vouch for nyx the nyx XXL lip lingerie ones are okay. Hated the Fenty in the silver tubes, they never dried down and transferred/smudged. Maracujas are balms and will disappear if you look at them wrong. However the lip vice liquid lips from urban decay last if you put them on property and are shiny
I wore KVD matte lippie and it stayed all day! I put a NYX colored gloss on top.
