    Magilou: "Who do you think I am?"
    Literally no one:

      What I like the most about her is she isn’t presented as a great important character. She’s completely marginal to the story (and she’s only vital like here and when the group battles the last time against Melchior)
      She was supposed to be a strong asset to the abbey but she ended up being a freak who likes to travel, meet interesting people and get in trouble to have fun basically.
      Her role in tales of Berseria is just to watch and assist when she feels like it because she has nothing better to do. What a wonderful side character, she does little, she doesn’t pretend to be deep and she’s very funny.
      I think she could be considered the second best character in the party after the first which is Laphicet. While obviously excluding Velvet because she’s the protagonist and she is probably the best character in all of Berseria.

    Oh thank god, this game didn't degrade into "the power of hope/friendship" BS.
    Instead, we get the power of being royally pissed-off and fucking over anyone who tells us to just "get over it".

    • @edwardsuou
      @edwardsuou 3 года назад +6

      @@terozu5440 it’s not really that they got each ones back, they just have different goals to the same reaction so they fight alongside. (While Magilou just cares about enjoying the show)
      It’s not like they’re close friends or something. It’s not like in persona where there is a strong connection between characters who are in a cohesive group where they cherish each other.
      For example Rokurou clearly said he would not do crazy things to save someone and he would not really be sad if anyone dies. While obviously no one would ever protect Magilou because she’s only there to watch the show because she has literally nothing better to do.
      On the other hand it’s not like they hate each other. Instead there are realistic bonds between them depending on the way the character treats his relationships.
      For instance Eizen is basically a mentor for Laphicet because they are both malak and he’s way more experienced and skilled and so he cares a bit about him (it is implied he forms good connections with other malak) and helps him being the one in control of his life.
      On the other hand he treats the other like momentary comrades he’s traveling with so he doesn’t really connect on a deep level but he would absolutely help them if they need him because he respects the ones he’s traveling with. (Except maybe Magilou which everyone just doesn’t respect very much).

      Is Melchior shady? Yes
      Did Arturius do what Melchior wanted? Yes
      Did Arturius need Melchior to come to his conclusion? Absolutely no, M didn’t brainwash A. A deliberately did what he did because he wanted to. This means there was no direct control, influence can exist in various levels (one can push someone by giving him a method, which is one of the lowest levels) without direct control. When someone controlling is gone the controlled changes drastically for instance.
      Sorry to be a little pedantic but I don’t like people banalizing stuff. People very often talk about manipulation in the most banalized terms.

    • @Pheonixfirestar
      @Pheonixfirestar Год назад +3

      @@edwardsuou oh that’s ok also I said he manipulated not brainwashed and I am definitely not saying that Artorius is not at fault in any way because that jackass is responsible for his actions.. What I am saying is that Melchior was always behind the scenes and set up worst fates for other people just to achieve his dreams. He’s worst than being just shady, he started the whole sacrifice process before and later while manipulating the villagers to sacrifice Artorius family( its quite hinted throughout the story that he manipulates the actions of other people to get the results he want for his corruption of the mantle greater good. He is the shadow the one that does the dirty deeds. He knew that with Celica and Artorius child dead he would be easier to manipulate use and also he’s the most powerful exorcist besides Shigure, so he would be the most useful tool.

    • @edwardsuou
      @edwardsuou Год назад +1

      @@Pheonixfirestar
      I agree with most things you said
      the thing is I don’t think Melchior is that relevant or interesting as he’s just a whatever side character with just a few relevant things
      While he has been horrible
      I think you could take him out of the story entirely. What killed Celica and her son is first and foremost unjustice born out of rotten people who would even sacrifice their neighbors to protect their status quo.
      He just happened to push things and speed up what was meant to happen.
      The same goes for Artorius plan, he just pushed it on.
      It’s fine for stories to have side characters like him but I don’t think it’s necessary to take his influence as relevant overall since you can just remove him and everything works just fine still. Berseria is actually a pretty simple concept made with just a handful of truly important characters, that’s its strength. That’s the reason I think it’s necessary to consider the essential part of the story separately from everything else. Which means not pretending it’s all cohesive and important and acknowledge they needed to fill the game with side stuff like Rokurou and his fight with Shigure which is separate.
      It would’ve felt way less personal for instance if Velvet’s revenge included a bunch of people conspiring she hated all equally (instead she just kills people who are in the way, not because she really wants all those people dead, that’s why she has deep remorse for Oscar and stuff) . It would’ve been like much more mundane, Artur would’ve receive less attention and the story feel more fragmented and the purpose less clear and compelling as you would just be a mad killing machine who just wants blood. She needed one target, one straight path to follow where she only aims to it, one major character changing her in her journey (Laphicet), and just a couple of other simple things for the story to flow as well as it does.

    Taking revenge on your own family for abandoning you . . . that's more like it.

      Velvet is totally a tsundere due to her good side covered with rage, hatred and coldness due to her demonic transformation.
      Rokurou is often very direct and communicates his respect and care without hiding under an facade. The only thing he hides is that he got invested in Velvet’s story and wanted to join. (He instead says he want to repay an un-existent debt to her)
      While Eizen, Laphicet and Eleanor are not tsunderes at all. Why would you even think about them? Laphicet and Eleanor don’t even try to hide their kindness and Eizen clearly talks about all of his bonds while being a supportive mentor to Laphicet.
