She lived her entire life under a fairly thick blanket of love and comfort provided by her brother, sister and Arthur until it was suddenly and mercilessly taken from her by one of the few people she genuinely trusted and admired. Who? joking, you gotta point. It shows that Eizen was the Male figure Phi strove to become like. Phi saw that Eizen and Velvet shared some connection through out the story. It is also why Eizen made sure to give Phi pointers. The characters all played so well off each other it was believable. Writing at its best.

This scene is exactly why character based stories in JRPG's are the best. Character development with characters who feel real. She may be a demon, but she still feels so absolutely human. Thank you for uploading this scene so that I can show it to my friends! Malak Laphi has grown up so much over the course of this game and this scene shows it.
This is exactly why I prefer the Tales series to the Final Fantasy series. I'm not saying that FF characters are bad or anything, but those games are mostly story-driven with their characters usually taking a back seat. And, apart from the main characters, they usually lose their importance as the plot goes on. For example, after that Blitzball tournament in FF10, Wakka could have just left the party and nothing would have changed aside from not having him in battle. Kimarhi could have left the party at any point and I doubt I would have noticed at all until I realized he wasn't in the party anymore. Red from FF7 could have just left the party after learning about his father, and there probably wouldn't have been a difference. There are many characters in that series that just become nothing more than battle drones after the plot gets their backstory over with. They're just kind of...there. They barely have any presence or moments or even important lines afterwards. I'm not saying this is always the case in every game, it's just something I noticed and have always been wanting to rant about. Again, not saying that FF is bad, I just like Tales and its character-driven stories more.
It was the ultimate payoff to listening to Edgelord of Calamity for the entire game. The fact that she went from 100 to 50ish after this was icing on the cake.
I love this this moment, because of Laphicet's growth and development, and that speech. Oh, my God, that was so epic! Worthy of a tip of the hat. Laphicet became a real beast
Child characters can often be grating, but Phi is an absolutely GOATED character with a great VA. This is his best moment for sure. Man, I am gonna miss all these wonderful characters...
I played the game in Japanese and looked up the scene in English. I see many comments praising the voice acting here and I do agree that it is fantastic, and even better than the Japanese voice acting for this scene (which is still good). However something which allowed this scene to eclipse its Japanese variant was the wonderful work of the localisation team. They reworked the original phrases and gave it a lot more emotional weight. For example Laphi doesn't mention being a number in the Japanese version; he merely says that Velvet gave him a name. Likewise in the Japanese version Laphi says "You're warm" while here he says "You're full of life" which is much more overt and impactful.
Of all the characters, Laphicet has the best character development, and he also helps with the other characters with their character development. I love this game so much!
When she explains how everything she loved was taken and "why them and why not me" that part gets me everytime no matter how well I hold it together. It makes me relate to losing those I've loved
Hats off to the voice actors! Sometimes the English version of emotional scenes in anime and video games can fall a little short, but this is on fleek. I can't stop crying because of how emotional they sound. "You gave me a name when I was just a number" laphicet's name is originally given to him out of a mistake from velvet, and he struggles the whole time to find where he matters to her, and not because he reminds her of him. And then you have this scene. Where laphicet declares her HIS velvet. I think he finally figured out he's truly someone she loves.
Best scene in the game, the fact that Phi became so close to Velvet despite once not being able to feel anything is beautiful. This is easily one of the best JRPGs I've played, and I've played some great ones.
Artorius and Velvet's brother are kinda jerks. They never told her anything, blame everything on her. Artorius locks her up in prison where she has to kill and feed on deamons. And her brother then proceeds with psychological torture. While their plan might not even work, they would make world completely monotone with people as mindless drones, or actually they would cause extinction of human race, as we could see with the merchant who wanted to suicide over some of his minor crimes and also people with no emotions and no desires might realize that their lives are simply pointless and thus not needed.
Honestly I couldn't even believe it was the same person... when they didn't tell Velvet anything of their plan, what else is she going to assume? When Artorius throws her in a prison for the sole purpose of being a trapped therion without even TRYING to explain his side of the story... what else were they expecting? She'd lost everything she loved and cared about... and then to turn around and say that she has an ugly, tainted soul, she's a monster, blaming her for making his sacrifice mean nothing... too cruel, man, too cruel :(
To be fair, I don't think Innominat is actually Laphicet. He obviously has his memories (and is not afraid to use them) but like Seres is quite distinct from Celica, the reborn Empyrean has a radically different outlook on things than Laphicet (though not telling Velvet anything? That's on Laphi all right). And yeah, the end goal of their plan is... pretty terrible. Given the chance, I'd honestly try my luck with daemonblight, at least you have a chance to retain (or regain) your consciousness at some point.
I think it was even said somewhere that when a person is reincarnated, It's not really the same person, but I feel like the interactions of other characters with innominat were as if It was really her brother... It kinda confuses me.
Actually, they did say that it's Laphicet's body in the game. It's actually more like a mix between the two. Laphicet's personality is still there, not just the memory. You can see that near the end of the game, Laphicet blamed Velvet for not letting him have a win like a child losing against a sibling, Laphicet also gets jealous of Laphicet when Laphicet fights Laphicet and Laphicet talks about how Velvet belongs to Laphicet. Remember Seres? She cried and talked about how she missed the days they hanged out together. Even in Velvet's body, Seres sometimes turned back to her sister to talk to Velvet. Her body may be Seres but her conscious is Velvet's sister, the woman who wants to stop her husband to save both him and her sister.
Easily one of the best moments in the entire Tales Series. It still makes me tear up after a dozen watches. It made Laphicet one of my all time favorite characters.
I just watched this scene for the second time in my second playthrough and I'm in tears, wanting to watch this scene again because MY GOD IT'S SO GOOD! "If the world says it's a mistake to love you, I'll fight the whole world!" "Eat my arm... Just leave me the other one. I need to clobber the jerk who made my Velvet cry!" AHHHHHHHH MY BABY MY SON! 😭❤❤
This entire scene is my favorite one in the whole game. Great character development and the scenery is perfect. Definitely my favorite Tales games ever. This needs an full anime adaptation or a movie.
there is also a lot of sadness, pain, and anger in the new mass effect game... just look at what happened to it after all the hype makes you feel all those emotions at once
It's always weird to think Phi is actually the reincarnation of Velvet's and Laphicet's unborn nephew... The lore of these games gets me every time. O.o
I don't really know how to put it into words but I feel like Velvet Crowe is a perfect example of a well done "edgy" character. I feel like with most, they're hellbent on being a hard ass and completely unemotional 99% of the time and when they are it just doesn't feel all that... Meaningful? genuine? They have this tragic backstory but its only an excuse to be well- an ass to everyone, and they don't really grow past that or show change, they don't feel bad if they've done wrong and overall are just sort of there to be the "cool" character adamant that they need no ones help. Velvet on the other hand really only wants to hurt the Abbey and more specifically Artorious, anyone else (up until this scene) she doesn't really care about, if you get in the way so be it. But again, in this scene -even if she is sort of broken at this point- she acknowledges that it was wrong, and feels some sort of remorse for it, realizing they were innocent. Not only that, she also acknowledges the fact she did love Aurthur, Cilica, and Laphi and the hurt she was feeling due to everything that had happened. She also isn't above help, if you can help her, she's for it, as long as you don't get in her way she might even help you if it's on the way and not too much of a bother. idk, I could just be thinking to hard on this but like- I guess for me its just- *Characters getting over themselves and admitting that they are wrong/hurt/feeling things > Asshole "cool" characters that refuse to acknowledge they have emotions* they're just bland.
Agree, original Velvet was pure kind hearted, cheerful young woman. Not even warrior, she was able to hunt game animals to support herself and Laphi. A** hole Mr Holiness broke her into the edgy OP vengeful malevolent being we first perceived, but deep inside even with all those malevolent badass power she is still the peaceful, kind loving normal young girl and was prob afraid scared. And she was finished here, if not for her kind friends Aizen, Rokiru, Magilou, Laphichet.etc They're the one that made the story game and intresting, specially Laphichet.
Loved this scene so much; Velvet admitting her feelings and pain; the fact she wanted to suffer so those she lost hadn't. Fuck, the feels hit HARD. Berseria is equal to Abyss in terms of my personal favorite Tales games.
CannonMan I'd say in terms of story characters and writing yeah however I still think that symphonia is better in overall combat and dungeon design after all the final dungeon is an hour of pure fucking boring as and if you want the 3rd MAs god fucking damnit
@alsimard what i mean is just in berseria it feels like all you do is mash a button because any arte in berseria chains into each other berseria's combat is more on the tactics and skills side more than any main line tales to date which if you like that that's fine i just found myself getting very bored of combat in this game compared to say vespira abyss or hell even xillia i have played every mainline entry after symphonia and in my opinon just have to stress that part as a veteran tales player i hope they change up the combat drasticlly in the next game to make it more orinted towards action rather than tactics i still think berseria is at least an 8.5/10 i love this game and series more than any other series but playing this is like going from marvel vs capcom 3 to marvel vs capcom infinte but there's only auro combos i'm fine with accsesbility but when it takes away depth that's when they cross the line vespira imo is the best combat system in the series it is accsesible but also adds on skills that reward you with the ability to add on to your combos which made it feel really rewarding to hunt for weapons with those skills and level up with the perfect ammount of challenge to push you to improve your gameplay and combos while in berseria everything combos into each other tp mangamenr is non existent souls just feel like an abitrary limit on your attacks rather than something you need to manage and if you get unlucky and your chracter gets stuck with 1 soul on a boss fight and you dont understand the mechanics you just spam the same attack over and over the game doesn't even punish you for playing so bad because of how laughable the difficulty is and i beat the cameo fight dark turtelz phoinex so i know what i am talking about as a tales of fan zestira and berserias combat just didnt grab me and to a point graces f but im not gonna go into that this comments long enough
And the 4vs16 thing symphonia actually has 8 arte slots c stick and in symphonia you had to see what attacks worked together and what didn't there was room for creativity whilst being accsebile
I still remember playing this scene for the first time and loving Eizen's big line. Part of me was annoyed with Velvet's descent to madness, so hearing Eizen scream for Velvet to get a hold of herself was perfectly timed.
Velvet had such a tragic past. Everyone she loved and cared about are either dead or has betrayed her. I refuse to believe that Inominat is Laphi, but the game never specifically said if they were the same person or if Inominat is the reincarnation of Laphi like how Malaks are reincarnations of humans. I refuse to believe that her brother would do something so cruel to her.
Unfortunately, the comb scene between the final two battles proves that Innominat is Laphicet for all intents and purposes. His reaction to the comb he gave her being broken is too strong to leave any doubt, in my opinion. So all the cruelty was from her brother, as much as that sucks.
@@Middleman_93 the Empyreans are all Malakim so if Innominat is the reincarnated form of Velvet's brother, then him retaining his memories of his past life would explain why the comb breaking would affect him like that
I love Velvet and Laphicet's familial bond. It felt so real and this scene cemented how much the two complete each other, Velvet's icy heart being melted by his pure, innocent demeanor, and Laphicet finding his own purpose and growth thanks to the strong influence Velvet has on him.
5:00 and 5:13 and 5:20 If you have real attention to detail you can see Velvet is changing here; each time they show her face she is moving further from despair and closer to a new-found rage because of how Artorius and Laphicet betrayed her.
It's just that in Zestiria and Graces case most of the cast is just so one dimensionally tropey and under if not at developed. I mean sure at some relavent plot points or there own story arcs they develope well, then change then right back when it's the main story.
God...I love this scene so much. There's only ONE thing that bothers me... The fact that when Velvet cries "It hurts so much"...It gets cut off. It literally cuts off a HUGE piece of emotional display.

joking, you gotta point. It shows that Eizen was the Male figure Phi strove to become like. Phi saw that Eizen and Velvet shared some connection through out the story. It is also why Eizen made sure to give Phi pointers. The characters all played so well off each other it was believable. Writing at its best.
@@TheeLZ Yeah, Eizen and Velvet always felt like the real parental figures of the group to be honest. Rokurou's.... uh.... Hahahahaha. He's like a little kid living in his own fantasy. Velvet and Eizen were at least teaching him things.
@@nichoudha Velvet and Eizen were the Ma and Pa of the group. Rokurou is the big brother. Eleanor the big sister. Magilou is the wierd quirky aunt and wee Phi is the adorbs baby boy. It's all one big, dysfunctional, occasionally murderous, loving family. And of course the family pet Bienfu.
@@TheeLZ yeah almost by the end of the game phi mentions so many times the advice eizen gave him
@@MiosPanties and I love them all!
I cried during this scene so much.
Phi's speech was moving and very powerful, and Velvet breaking through her despair and hate made this one of my favorites scenes in the game.
JulianneRegina Tell me about it, this is the one scene that hits me right in the feels and became Velvet and Laphicet’s most defining moment as a character.
@@smelendez052 This scene really solidified Laphicet's role as the deuteragonist of this game. Seriously, I can't imagine anyone other than Laphicet being the deuteragoinst.
David Timmer Me neither, and even if there was one. I doubt they’d be as amazing as Laphicet.
Every now and then I come back to this video just to test out how many times its going to take before I can watch it without crying. Its taking a lot more than expected.
Zylph I'm on view number 5. Still crying.
@@RinaRinaaXD still shedding tears too, watched over 50+ times still teared a lil bit , never ever thought a video game could ever deliver such a powerful scene 😣😣😭
David Wall i love both final fantasy and tales games
This game was amazing though!!!
Yeah I feel the same. I always felt something like that, but never had the words to express it. So thank you!@@SymphoniaFly
Why do they spell demon deamon?
After this scene, Laphicet deserves to be the deuteragonist of the game. don'tcha think?
The scene that made Berseria to be honest. Without this scene Berseria would still be good but this was the moment that in my opinion made the game.
I disagree. Berseria has already "made itself" way before this scene
It was the ultimate payoff to listening to Edgelord of Calamity for the entire game. The fact that she went from 100 to 50ish after this was icing on the cake.
@@TheSlammurai Nothing about Velvet was edgelord.
This scene shows what Laphicet's character development has led to. From something that was more of a machine to a true human being.

I love this this moment, because of Laphicet's growth and development, and that speech. Oh, my God, that was so epic! Worthy of a tip of the hat. Laphicet became a real beast
David Timmer If only Laphicet were voiced by Luci Christian as Amber Connor's voice work sounds too feminine and too much like Carrie Savage.
Eoghan Feighery what you said made me think of Wrath's speech to Alphonse in Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shambala
@@eoghanfeighery7383 And I wish Kamoana got voiced by Brittany Karbowski. You think Brittany Karbowski would've been a better pick for Kamoana?
We need to give Laphicets VA a shout out because he did a great job conveying this scene
Child characters can often be grating, but Phi is an absolutely GOATED character with a great VA. This is his best moment for sure. Man, I am gonna miss all these wonderful characters...
I wanted to hug Velvet so much and I wouldn't care if she devoured me
MrEriklenn same 😢
Yap same her 😭😭😭😭

Wouldn't we all? I definitely would. Velvet deserves a hug.
"You're warm" could be a Japanese metaphor about having a lot of life.
I love how I was just starting to get a little annoyed with Velvet's edginess and then they pull this out to once again justify her anger and pain.
I find this scene the most powerful in the game and this is why beseria is my favorite tales of game story
I love how all the kid player characters in these games always grow so much during the course of their respective games!!!
NeoDanomaru same such great characters development
Roxas Irving Just look at Laphicet! He grew from a robot to a tough guy!!!
NeoDanomaru and luke too xD
Of all the characters, Laphicet has the best character development, and he also helps with the other characters with their character development. I love this game so much!
Velvet and Magilou are right behind him tho.
This scene was very emotional and all, but I have to admit that when Laphicet said " Will you stop whining" I just burst out laughing.
When she explains how everything she loved was taken and "why them and why not me" that part gets me everytime no matter how well I hold it together. It makes me relate to losing those I've loved
Gotta say that Cristina Valenzuela NAILED IT for Velvet's despair here.
Damn this speech T-T " If the world say it's a mistake to love you, i'll fight the whole world ! "
What I took it as, when what Laphicet did, Innominat used his body as a vessel until he could be awoken, if that makes any sense.
This definitely is the best emotional part in the whole Tales series. I cried like a baby
Easily one of the best moments in the entire Tales Series. It still makes me tear up after a dozen watches. It made Laphicet one of my all time favorite characters.
Just this scene right here, made Berseria the best out of all the franchise in my opinion.
Eizen is always a badass even in scenes that arent directed around him. Hes the ultimate badass in my opinion
Agreed, one of the best video game characters ever made!
Who else legit teared up when they saw this scene? Poor Velvet...
I did. Especially the part where Velvet pours her out about people she lost and her pain.
Shit never thought a video game could make me feel
demon19027 It has more emotions than Recent Mass Effect Game.
there is also a lot of sadness, pain, and anger in the new mass effect game... just look at what happened to it after all the hype makes you feel all those emotions at once
Looks like _someone_ has never played Final Fantasy 7

Yesss
This was the moment where I think I decided Berseria was Better than Symphonia, and the best in the tales series. Fucking loved this game.
CannonMan I'd say in terms of story characters and writing yeah however I still think that symphonia is better in overall combat and dungeon design after all the final dungeon is an hour of pure fucking boring as and if you want the 3rd MAs god fucking damnit
Why not both?
*Spanish music plays*

I mean, I don't exactly blame her for going crazy like that lol
I kind of see it more like it's mostly Innominat but there's a piece of Laphicet in there and that becomes his weakness
@@Middleman_93 the Empyreans are all Malakim so if Innominat is the reincarnated form of Velvet's brother, then him retaining his memories of his past life would explain why the comb breaking would affect him like that

Is amazing this game, Velvet is a great character one of the best MC from Tales of
Having played Symphonia, Graces, Xillia 1 and 2 and Zestiria...I think Velvet is the best Tales MC.
Miyakolover played only one with in depth characters though..
I am not sure what you mean...but I thought all of these games had great and deep characters
It's just that in Zestiria and Graces case most of the cast is just so one dimensionally tropey and under if not at developed. I mean sure at some relavent plot points or there own story arcs they develope well, then change then right back when it's the main story.
I honestly do not agree with this...I find the cast in Zestiria and Graces to be pretty deep and interesting and nicely developed.
God...I love this scene so much. There's only ONE thing that bothers me...
The fact that when Velvet cries "It hurts so much"...It gets cut off. It literally cuts off a HUGE piece of emotional display.
