    I have lost count on how many times I have played Tales of Xillia. I have played it more times than Xillia 2 but that is not a knock on Xillia 2 as that game is also fun for me but I have to give credit to where it is due and that is with the game that sent me on a journey all throughout Rieze Maxia and Elympios hunting down all of Aifreads Treasures,doing all side missions and going through a onslaught of boss battles one after another to keep up the tension and hunting down the Devil's Weapons to unlock the key for end game Magnus Zero which is where I like to go up from Lvl 70 up to Lvl 99 and I must emphasize you buy 6 Stone Charms before you take up the gauntlet as there are monsters in there that petrifies you and your entire party and failing to take note will mean having to start all over from a game over losing al of that progress. Trading in inventory to max out the shops for the best items and gear in the game, The auto point distribution system within the Lilium Orbs is so useful for me since I like to speedrun the game or to see how fast I can push myself, The story is so enjoyable on both Jude and Milla's stories and the soundtrack is so good I listen to it daily even when I am not playing. I live for Xillia and if there was a game I would play for the very first time it would be Xillia but as it stands I have pretty much mastered the game and I still would keep replaying the game.

The other entries were good but they didn’t suck me in until Xillia came out. I obsessed over that game. Hey real quality video about one of my favourite games of the PS3. I was really disappointed by the game but I think that was mostly because I chose Milla at the start, I had no idea that so many of the best moments of the game are missing in her version. Also I thought the ending was super weak, after you defeat Exodus there is no one else in that world who wants to defeat you? They are all cool with their world just dying? Anyway I was super glad there was a sequel to flesh out the other world (But weirdly I've never played it). Anyway glad to have discovered your channel and I'm excited to see what else comes from it.

    You what's the funniest part of this video ? It's that despite having played that game I can't watch a quarter of it because I decided to play as Mila way back and have procrastinated on playing Jude's route which now is pretty obviously the main route lmao Like imagine X2 not having played that route and thinking to yourself "hmm I wonder where Gaius group is" and then you're hit with Leia's side story of meeting Agria and her saying she's glad Leia reached out to save her and Leia going that didn't happen"
    I have some interesting notes about Xillia but I remember thinking nothing of Elize for a long time until I started liking Leia a lot more and realizing that Elize was kinda giving her shit in Xillia like I've noticed she tends to lash out and make snide comments towards Leia also it took me a bit to actually like Milla then X2 comes around gives us tsun-Milla and then took her back to give us the old serious Milla, I remember being like "ain't no way they made me dislike this woman all over again" lmaoo
    That aside _i would love if those rumors were to be true and actually was the entire duology not just one game_ but we're not there yet so crossing my fingers

      @@NockLegacy alright lol, I'll bite. How come? Is it the reused environments?

    • @NockLegacy
      @NockLegacy Месяц назад +2

      @@ReversedJrpgs well the reused environments doesn’t help it’s case (like zero area from xillia 1 has changed??), but more so the story is very problematic. Where xillia 1 was a great story with characters that have arcs and purpose that follow the flow of the story, xillia 2 has none of that. Xillia 2 starts with Ludger, a guy that becomes the most important person in this universe. He became friends with the cast of xillia 1 in like 5 min, and now they are following him and helping him. So first of all, all of them don’t have a reason to be there. Yes it is fun for the first few scenes, but they just seem to stay because the plot say so. Secondly, xillia 2 doesn’t have a story or instead has a lacking story. Where in xillia 1 you were exploring the world, discovering area, characters and following the story that made this game a journey, xillia 2 don’t? In xillia 2 you are asked to go to parallel universe to destroy them. To access these portals you have to go in specific area of the map of xillia 1. So you just reexplore EVERY area of xillia just to get to the next portal. With no real story reasons, well yes, but it is so lacking. And speaking of these portals : thirdly, xillia 2 is just xillia 1 without its momentum. In every alternate reality you replay some events of xillia 1 but with a what if scenario. Is doesn’t propose to you a new story (since it’s suppose to be a sequel), but just some alternate events of xillia 1. In xillia 1, those events happen through the journey, with momentum. Here in xillia 2, there is no such thing. We just go through world number #172804 to redo some events. It is not really fun, much so for the players that consider that by destroying those words, they are committing genocide. Fourthly, speaking of killing, in xillia 1, the cast is always looking to find a way to save everybody, finding an other answer to the problem. In xillia 2, nope let’s just erase those people they doesn’t matter. Look how fragmented Milla is just forgotten 5 min after her death. BUT, if erasing these people is considerate good, how come to get the true ending, you have to save Ellie over you, since she is fragmented too? There is no consistency here. Fiftly the padding problem. Since I have already established that going through tons of portal is not fun, why not making it worse!? The debt system. It is blocking our way at every step of the game. Finished a chapter? Do sidequest. Finished a cool story boss? Sidequest. You really wanna see some area of xillia 1? You have to earn the right to see it mortal, earn more money. It is not fun, it’s killing the pacing of the story, which barely exist since it is just xillia 1 alternate universe simulator, and by just adding new concepts, xillia 2 bring so many potholes. Like now there is 3 lords of spirits, now the Kesniks are almighty, now there is alternates universes, etc. Those thing were never hinted in xillia 1. Xillia 2 failed to me to be a sequel to xillia 1. It doesn’t continue the story where it’ stop. it is its own thing, more dlc than a sequel, but just not fun to play.

    Tales of Xillia is probably the worst RPG I've played and definitely the worst "Tales of".
    The characters are badly written, they are uninteresting with little to no character development and the story is the boring and illogical type of "power of friendship". More specifically Jude is the generic brainless do-gooder, Alvin's double agency got old too fast and Gaius is the badass-wannabe who ends up as the enemy without logic whatsoever, even the likeable ones(like Elize) have moments out of character that don't make any sense. It's 1 of the 2 games that I was beggin them to stfu because I couldn't take anymore of their nonsensical dialogues.
    Xillia 2 on the other hand might be a recycle of the first game(maps and characters) with a few extras but it has a story a lot better and the few new characters are well written. Worth playing, not like its predecessor.

    @JadenRockz99 Месяц назад +1

    I know this is engagement baiting, but if I need to boost the algorithm to give my two galds on Xillia then so be it.
    1. Combat
    Xillia's combat is great, no problem with that, until we start to talk about linking.
    Linking is a very underutilized mechanic that people are supposedly able to use freely or with restrictions, so our party members can use them, but their implementation is super jank if not outright egregious. Combat felt clunky because of that, especially when your party members are essentially dragging you down with their limited ability to use it as well as you do. Granted, you are the player character, but at some point you have to ask whether or not you want to see the AI fumble over the basic prowess of linking and such rather than just force your way through without even needing them.
    Plus, it's an underutilized mechanic that not even the enemies are privy of until the very end of the game. The only significant time someone else used the same system as us is at the very end of the journey, which becomes really underwhelming considering that is the peak of this game's combat. The moment the field is leveled, it's at the very end of the game, and it's not like linking has any merit to the opponent's AI either much like when our AI members use linking.
    2. Graphic
    I actually despise the way they designed Xillia. Its design is an absolute mess. Despite what you said in the video, the jarring inconsistencies are super apparent, and the way they are shaded to be more grounded and gritty served as a deterrent more than an advantage. Tales was always a dark and gritty game disguised as a cutesy adventure game from the days of Phantasia, but Xillia's design banking on its brown shade of realistic is a mistake on their part. It looks pretty, yes, but when you put those grounded shades against the fantastical nature of the world you can see that they do not belong there, and not because it has an in-universe explanation, but because their designs clashed with their surroundings.
    Townspeople are there but they aren't really alive. So many small details in the environment are lost because of that. Even the other world are just depressing, not because it is designed to be as depressing as possible concrete jungle, but because there are nothing for you to see there. The reveal is supposed to be a mind-shattering revelation but the cast just treat it as something they shrug off because there's a bigger baddie to beast into submission.
    3. Story
    Xillia is, by far, the WORST Tales game in storytelling. I played Tales of the Tempest. It sucked. Hard. But that's because Tempest was made in a cave and not a single person there knows what the heck Tales is supposed to be. Xillia is worse in almost every way because of how hard it dropped the ball in storytelling. You would think a mainline Tales series could reach the same peak as Vesperia, Abyss, Symphonia, Eternia, and Destiny Director's Cut, but you would be wrong. The story of Xillia is as bad a story can get with Tales, only to be rivaled by the likes of Zestiria in a lot of aspects.
    The pacing is horrible and the information you obtain in the game is spoonfed to you. Connections are made only to be subverted, like at the middle point of Xillia where the game just throws all the bad tales stereotypes at you, progression felt super linear with how the world is basically a forward walking simulator without a world map or crossroads for a sense of adventure, and the final nail in the coffin is just how horrible the pacing and setpieces are used.
    Tales is famous for its three arcs story structure, where in the first arc something bad happened or an arc is finished leading to the second arc, in which something mind blowing happened leading to the final arc and conclusion, but Xillia's second and third act is stupidly rushed. To the point of neckbreaking speed. You got sent to the second world, which was just a bigger world than your flat bubble world, and everything there happened so quickly I wouldn't fault you if you finished the segment in less than an hour. All you did there is beat a ball of lightning, talks about Celsius which doesn't really appear in the game, before you go back to the final boss room to beast a baddie into submission. And his flying fae friend too.
    Also, despite the game giving you the choice between Jude and Milla, the story stayed the same and nothing really mattered in the choices you make in the story. It's the absolute peak of nonsense, and they are absolutely committed to this by giving Jude and Millia their own versions of opening, different cutscenes that plays in their respective sides, but both differences ultimately lead to the same ending and that's just bad game planning if you ask me.
    There are a lot of things wrong with Xillia, and the reason people aren't talking about it is because it comes out a PS3 exclusive release for God knows why reason, it doesn't have a remastered rerelease that is rumored to come out this year or the next, and Xillia 2 is just a far better sequel that is designed to remove the bad aspects of the previous game. Despite giving its own share of design problems, but Ludger is a transforming hero and you can henshin and stop time so it's all worth it in the end, right?
    Now, Xillia isn't bad. It's just mid. A definite 5/10 game bogged down by its own imperfection. Blame Hideo Baba for this. He sucks.
