I have shot the 6.8 western since its release and absolutely loved it. I've taken at least 5 whitetails, 6 bears, 1 mule deer, and 2 mountain lions, and never had anything go further than 12 yards, but im very intrigued by this cartridge and will probably pick one up in the spring
Easy now be careful This industry there's a very vocal group of people who absolutely are stuck in their ways and dont want any invitation........they just might......be little you for wanting such
Good to see JVB with a great value Savage in his hands. Also even better to see Savage make both of those models in left hand for a cross dominant shooter such as myself, even though the lefties are not available in the same number of cartridges as the right handed models.
BADASS...... frikin BADASS... A 270 on roids and lefy - right out the the gate.... SAVAGE for the win . Im a workin man and just cant buy at 2 -4k rifle !! Savage is doing it right! .. thank Joe ... just frikin awesome
This new round is very interesting and just might be the future. I'll wait for a 277 version though. I'm a lefty and really like the looks of both of those guns especially the Hogue stoked gun. It will be interesting to see what RCBS comes up with for reloading.
I'm waiting for these Savages to hit the stores. I'm really tempted to go with the Timberline but it's hard to justify when you can get the Trail Hunter Lite for half the price. It's going to be one or the other since I have yet to hear of anyone else making a 7 BC in LH.
I was nevcer really into the 7 PRC but this is right up my alley. I live in Ohio though so I have no need for it unfortunately. I have this exact rifle in 350 legend and its fantastic.
Savage is without a doubt a great and accurate rifle. But why put those dumbass accu-triggers in them. Give us a standard single stage adjustable trigger savage
Well Done Sir.. On another note Am manily a hunter n reloading is a big part of that for me.Reloadability is important to me as well. One reason why I havent tried True Velocity n there polymers cased ammo.nor get non reloadable ammo when getting centerfire ammo.
I have a 110 VSX HUNTER XP in.243 and an Axis TrueTimber Strata in .308. They both shoot lights out with Barnes TTSX 80 grain and 130 grain respectively so I think that they'll handle anything that I'll be hunting out to 500 yards which is my personal limit on game.
I'm assuming any custom stock made for a long action 110 will work, right? So if you want an adjustable comb height or length of pull you should be able to swap out the stock on the Trail Hunter Lite and still be under a grand total. That obviously would not include a scope but you're going to have that additional cost regardless.
I have a new rifle purchase planned and was planing to get it in 280ai, but I'm pausing here. I don't reload, and I'm on the fence between the two calibers. Anyone have thoughts?
Does anybody know if anyone is making a 7 mm Backcountry reamer? It sounds like anyone with a 280 bolt gun could ream it out to 7mm Backcountry because the strength is in the cartridge not in the firearm.
The cartridge allows heavy projectiles to be pushed fast, even though they're out of a shorter barrel. Having a 20" barrel is better suited to a suppressor.
I find the cartridge interesting but can Federal keep up the demand with their ammo? They definitely have failed with their Terminal Ascent ammo for 7mm Prc. Out of stock everywhere all the time. 🙄
I just can’t put my Remington Game Master pump in 30.06 down. I love my Remington pump . But that’s a fast , flat shooting rifle there , impressive @ 29-3000 fps
I would really like to see 5 round magazines in this or any other standard size cartridge diameter. Never understood the cutoff at 4. 5 rounds is considered a good standard for dangerous game, and while we might not normally hunt dangerous game in North America, one might have to engage in personal defense.
No thankx. To many proven 7mm out there. Want to see primers, powder, bullets & brass to support what’s already out there. Will not buy any new cartridges until I see that.
Velocities are good but ES, and accuracy are of concern according to some who have tested it out already. Also heard some tried reloading the alloy cases and have run them through resizing dies up to 8 times and haven't acheived the proper sizing. Jury's still out.
I just purchased a Savage M110 Hog Hunter In 308 Win from Davidsons. I picked It up from my FFL Dealer and when I got home I opened the box and was shocked to discover that the Complete Front and Rear Sight Assemblies were missing. I waited till the following Monday morning to call Savage Customer Service and I was directed to contact them via Email I emailed them describing my problem and received a follow up acknowledgment and a case # It's been two weeks since I received the acknowledgement of my email without any other contact! This Is absurd! I own 3 other Savage rifles and never had a problem with them and I'm sure grateful for that considering their bad customer support. One of the big selling points of the Hog Hunter Series Is the Open Sight Feature, this rifle left the factory without them! No more Savage products for me! I would suggest to anyone who Is considering purchasing an affordable 7 Backcountry Bolt-Gun Is to wait for Ruger or Howa to Introduce one! P.S. If you need to order parts for your Savage Firearm Good Luck because their Parts Dept doesn't pick up the phone either!
"I own 3 other Savage rifles and never had a problem with them" Me neither. I currently own 4 Savages and they're all awesome. Every manufacturer makes mistakes here and there, so I'm not going to let that deter me from owning more of their rifles in the future.

Nice! The 6.8 is awesome
I am in the same boat. If I can get the same or better performance with a 20" barrel, my 270 might have to go down the road.
That is all the rifle the average hunter needs
Good to see JVB with a great value Savage in his hands. Also even better to see Savage make both of those models in left hand for a cross dominant shooter such as myself, even though the lefties are not available in the same number of cartridges as the right handed models.
Love the 6.8 Western!
This was a good video. That employee new his stuff!!!

I hope they keep making new cartridges and calibers. It keeps the gun industry exciting.
I was nevcer really into the 7 PRC but this is right up my alley. I live in Ohio though so I have no need for it unfortunately. I have this exact rifle in 350 legend and its fantastic.
I've seen it all folks. He's praising a Savage
I have the trail hunter light in 270 win. Absolutely a tack driver. For the money great shooter
How light is it
@jamessammann9183 mine isn't light. With 6 to 24 Arken it weighs 9.7 lbs
@@travismckenney407 nice i hoping they are coming out with 22 creed
Outperforming a full length 7mm mag with a 16" barrel is crazy and very useful. Wonder how loud it will be?
Im going to be very interested to watch how this cartridge matures into the landscape. Seems to have the potential to do some cool things
Thanks Joseph. Those are crazy velocities out of a 16” barrel! This is all exciting stuff.!
Thanks!
Savage is without a doubt a great and accurate rifle. But why put those dumbass accu-triggers in them. Give us a standard single stage adjustable trigger savage
Need the lite in the od green
I wonder do you US American folk realise how lucky you are 😉
Enjoy

The Savage fella on the right couldn't speak any faster if he tried 😂
Poor guy was so uncomfortable in front of the camera.
You've got to remember that Joseph speaks about as slow as molasses on a cold Idaho day.
Wow the 7mm rem mag Outperforms the PRC.
Hands down and now the back country even out performed them both❤
genius

I wish Savage would go back to putting sights on their rifles.
I want the 7mm Backcountry with a 24 or 26 in barrel!
me too!

Accustocks can be found for $100. They aren't the lightest, but the are stiff.
Nice rifle for $600. But I’ll pass on $80 per box of ammo if you can even find it lol. I’ll stick with the ole 300WM
I have a new rifle purchase planned and was planing to get it in 280ai, but I'm pausing here. I don't reload, and I'm on the fence between the two calibers. Anyone have thoughts?
Savage does make a reliable and accurate rifle, have 2. I think this 7BC is interesting, but I think it’s a niche cartridge.
I’ve done made a phone call looking for the 16.5! Do you have any idea when they are gonna be available? Can’t wait to get one and try it out.
Does anybody know if anyone is making a 7 mm Backcountry reamer? It sounds like anyone with a 280 bolt gun could ream it out to 7mm Backcountry because the strength is in the cartridge not in the firearm.
If I'm not mistaken, the 7mm Backcountry's shoulder is shorter than the .280 Rems... so (unless I'm wrong) you can't actually ream the chamber out.
Okay, so if it's all metallurgy and case strength, when are we going to see this in other cartridges for hunting.
What's the point of the caliber in such a short barrel
The cartridge allows heavy projectiles to be pushed fast, even though they're out of a shorter barrel. Having a 20" barrel is better suited to a suppressor.
@BackcountryHuntingPodcast hmm different strokes for different folks I guess.
This sounds great! I know there are concerns but that combination of velocity and bullet weight in a short barrel would be something special
Any info on what the 7bc does in 24-26 barrels?
federal has the 24" barrel velocities listed on their website
Real hot.
Sorry, im not interested in the latest "cartridge of the month"
They all were the cartridge of the month at one point… The 30-06 270 and 308 all had skepticism
Make a 26 inch barrel not everyone wants shorts barrel
yeah build a gun for .01% of shooters in hunting calibers
Since federal and remington sold to the Czech group, I will no longer support either of them
I would really like to see 5 round magazines in this or any other standard size cartridge diameter. Never understood the cutoff at 4.
5 rounds is considered a good standard for dangerous game, and while we might not normally hunt dangerous game in North America, one might have to engage in personal defense.
The model 70 still holds 5

The rifle builders are saying they aren’t seeing these problems. Just one off consumers who only have one sample to test
lol. I respected you guys until now. You’re industry sheep
Gee wiz , what is next mouths new cartridge ? How about a 30 backcountry or a 270 or a 6.5 backcountry 😂🤣😂🥲😂🤣……..

1 simple mistake & you cry & whinge, nobody will pay you any attention on firearms ownership.
looks like its a fad cartridge,,,
