Haha I was waiting for the shoutout with all the NTTD noms Jon haha thanks! 🤣 Yes Dan is right that I would have preferred it not only get technical award noms… but I’m happy it was at least nominated for SOMETHING by the Oscars… unlike a certain other recent awards show! 😜😂
But… are ya guys trying to mess with me saying the NTTD song isn’t that good? 😅 It fit the movie so perfectly, I think it was beautiful, it was fittingly somber especially considering what happens in the movie. Personally if it weren’t for people talking about Encanto’s songs I wouldn’t remember any other them (which is unusual for me with Disney movies, I adored the songs in Frozen and Moana).
I’m of course happy to see No Time to Die nominated for visual effects but honestly I would have preferred it be nominated for cinematography! I think NTTD and Skyfall are two the nicest looking movies I’ve ever seen, not just nicest looking Bond movies.
For me I’d agree for visual effects maybe Free Guy could be swapped out for Godzilla vs Kong… but for me the big snub in that category was The Suicide Squad… of all the comic book movies this year I thought the visual effects were the best in The Suicide Squad (I mean King Shark, Sebastian the rat and even Starro were all handled in a way that I felt like they were really living things) so I’d switch Shang Chi maybe as well out for it.
I wish theatres here in Canada played the shorts nominated as one big experience, that sounds awesome Jon, I’m jelly lmao! 😅
Javier Bardem’s best performance is a tie for me between No Country for Old Man and… u guessed it… Skyfall! Even though I haven’t seen Cyrano I was hoping Peter Dinklage would be nominated (Jon u gotta see GoT he’s just the absolute best in it! 😩🤌)
Great video guys! Are u planning to do some sort of contest with people sending in ballots and seeing who gets the most right? I think that would be a fun cinema squad event for the YT community to take part in with u guys! 🤷🏻♂️
the first spiderman was nominated for visual effects, and the 2nd one even won the Oscar :)
Love the vid, Jonathan!! Good to see you and Dan going over the Oscars! I agree with you that Godzilla Vs. Kong deserved the Special Effects deserved a nomination, but I would have kept Free Guy and gotten rid of Shang-Chi in that category...
The minute Denis Venezuela was cheated out of a best director nominee I lost all interest in it. I have my team, the Rams, going to the Superbowl and tomorrow I am going to see an early press-screening for Death of the Nile, so the Oscars is in the back of my mind, especially since it was 4 hours of people giving speeches in a slow-pase last year. Hopefully it's fun to watch this year.
Upset no Denis. After a great win at the Rubber Duckies, its once again a sad day for us Villeneuves.

Prod Design - I would swap POTD w/ French Dispatch/Soho. LOVE the prod design in Macbeth so great to see this here
Musical Score - Giving this to Encanto. I like Billie Eillish's song but not as strong or memorable as Adele's and Sam Smith's Bond songs
Animated Picture - I feel like they're giving it to Mitchells but Flee might be great (yet to see it)
Original Screenplay - Finally saw The Worst Person and it deserves to be there!
Adapted Screenplay - Guys get out of here CODA deserves it! haha but POTD I agree deserves it.
Sound Design - Spencer's sound design stands out as a mood piece. Should've been there!
Costume Design - Team Cruella too but Dune might pull an upset
Supp. Actor - Love JK Simmons but I would put the C'mon C'mon's Woody Norman over him or the 2 boys from Mass but if Troy Kotsur's winning I would be really happy
Supp. Actress - Would swap Buckley and Dench for Ruth Negga, Martha Plimpton or Ann Dowd.
Actor - Would swap Javier for Peter Dinklage but yeah agree the film's timing of release messed its chances
Actress - Lady Gaga did a great job in the role but the movie was just so disappointing
Director - Unbelievable! Apparently Dune directed itself. My jaw was on the floor once the announcement is done
Picture - Tick Tick Boom over Don't Look Up anytime of the day! Glad to hear King Richard and CODA gaining steam. Really have to see Drive My Car! The race is so tight!
