I knew the Arthur legend since a kid, but until Dennis shows up and says "strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government." I sat back and realized holy cow Dennis is right!
Great reaction Sam & Tristan!! Well that was a fun watch this Friday afternoon! My wife and I absolutely LOVE this movie (and have since we were dating - part of the reason why I love her, she 'gets' Monty Python's humour!) Both our boys love it too! So many quotable lines - my favourite will always be Dennis' rant on 'strange women lying in ponds...' A local 'nostalgia' movie theatre played a special cut of this movie that had subtitles. We were given a loot bag, complete with coconuts, to act along with the movie! We went as a family, and had a side-splitting good time! We can recite most of this movie, no problems! All of the Pythons had varying levels of success outside of their collab with each other. John Cleese is probably the most known of them in the acting world. Terry Gilliam (the animator, Patsy) has had a very successful career as a director. Michael Palin (Galahad) has done several travel documentaries. Unfortunately, both Terry Jones (Bedevere) & Graham Chapman (Arthur) have both passed, RIP. Cheers from Canada, eh!
The strategy game Heroes of Might & Magic 3 has cheat codes that all reference this very movie. Fun fact: Terry Gilliam is the only one of the group who's American (from Minnesota and grew up in LA) but he became a British citizen in 1968. He and his daughter renounced their US citizenship in 2006.
The knight who kills the famous historian can't be one of Arthur's men since he is actually on a horse, so the whole ending is clearly a wrongful arrest. :)
Monty Python is a great, absurdist comedy group from England... and, having grown up with a dad from England, I can confirm that the absurd and "taking the piss" are very strong parts of English humor! Also, "there are some who call me... Tim"... his name was meant to be far more complicated, but he whiffed on that line when they filmed it, and they just stuck with that because of how limited their budget was. Plus, it is just a great line!
This movie is, more or less, a reflection of what their TV series, Monty Python's Flying Circus, was like. The use of the animation is frequently used in the series.
I would recommend Rat Race which is another John Cleese film. It has a stellar cast. A morningstar is a club with a metal ball attached to the end with either spikes or nobs. A Mace and chain has a wooden handle with a chain attached to a spiked metal ball. 😂 Lobbying livestock is a time honored tradition. 😂 Tim The Enchanter is a Pyromancer. 🔥
Other greaat pre 1990 comedies: Life of Brian (Monty Python) A Fish Called Wanda (a couple of the Python's) Stir Crazy Blazing Saddles Young Frankenstein Vacation Animal House The Blues Brothers Caddyshack
There's two more Monty Python movies "The life of Brian"(1979), and "The Meaning of Life"(1983). You two should also check out the series Monty Pythons Flying Circus, it's the 70's BBC TV series that made the Monty so popular. Some of the cast went on to do another show called "Fawlty Towers." There's also another great comedy movie called "A Fish Called Wanda"(1988), which stars both John Cleese and Micheal Palin (two of the actors in this Lancelot and Galahad) as well as Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline. All of these are very worth checking out!
There is technically a 4th Monty Python film “And Now for Something Completely Different” (1971). However a lot of it is repackaging some of their skits from their show in an entertaining way.
Monty Python were the kings of random. Sketches didn't have punchlines but just morphed into on another...and you never noticed because their (clever) sillyness kept you laughing throughout. It was an immense departure from the comedy at the time which had become very formulaic.
The abrupt ending is literally a Cop Out due to the low budget and the horses. The Life Of Brian is a bigger budget movie and is probably the superior movie because it has a narrative.
John Cleese has been in a lot of stuff, maybe the most famous of the Monty Pythons outside of Britain. A Fish Called Wanda is one movie of his I can recommend, it also has Michael Palin as well. Also, Rat Race (2001), John Cleese is also there, one of my favorite comedies of all time even after more than 20 years I still find myself laughing after remembering a particular scene.
If you want to make even a little sense out of this film especially the ending, you have to think of this film as a bunch of cosplayers engaged in a LARP. But it got out of control, some people got injured and the cops shut it down.
"More comedy movies like this one?" The post modern "writers" don't know how to write Comedy and that genre is out of fashion in Hollyweird. ("Modern audience comedy" is so much "middle or high school" hallway chatter and situations.) King Arthur "riding a horse" around 10th century Britain, arguing about migratory coconuts and Swallows is classic UK comedy.

Dennis spitting knowledge like a boussss
Now we see the violence inherent in the system! Help, help, I'm being repressed!
@@nickhewes6860 bloody peasant!
"The" Arthur legend! I wonder which of the hundreds of myriads you take as canon.
"Just because some watery tart lobs a scimitar...". - Dennis
I love the ending, it's a literal cop out 😂

"And there was great rejoicing, yeaaaah..."

Best delivery of the word "hey".
There's a gaurd that deserves a raise.
So many good dialogues and epic one-liners! Silly and witty. LOL
The weapon at 9:23 is known as a flail. A mace (the word Tristan was looking for) or a morning star (a type of mace) doesn't have the chain.
I would recommend Rat Race which is another John Cleese film. It has a stellar cast.

That was cool. Life of Brian is a must!

Great stuff Guys ... that's took me on a right nostalgic trip ... You may as well do Monty Python 'Life of Brian' next. Their best film.

He is always lifting his visor because the only protection is directly over his eyes so he can´t see with the visor down 😂

Owed a lot to Spike Milligan and the Goon Show. Spike has a cameo in Life of Brian.
You'll totally recognize John Cleese and Michael Palin! 😂
Saw this 6 times when it came out. Once at a kiddies matinee. They were laughing their heads off.
The abrupt ending is literally a Cop Out due to the low budget and the horses. The Life Of Brian is a bigger budget movie and is probably the superior movie because it has a narrative.
The great thing about the music is, aside from the songs, most of it is stock licensed music. They didn’t have the budget for a film score.
im 60 and i grew up with the MP gang here in Denmark aswell they are still the best imho..
"GEEZ-ZUZ KROIST!!"

A Fish Called Wanda is so funny.
Clockwise (movie) and Fawlty Towers (TV series) with John Cleese are also great.

Thanks to Sam and Tristan! 🏆
I believe I saw this movie 20 times since 1978.
You'll have to check out Life of Brian next, funniest film ever. Python are The Beatles of comedy.
You been hearing eric idols voice your entire life too
Type of humour? It has its own word which is now in good dictionaries : "pythonesque" . No better tribute to the genius of this groundbreaking troupe.
John Cleese also plays Nearly Headless Nick in the Harry Potter movies.
MONTY PYTHON ❤ you should take a look at the original series
Mmm...I'd sure love to revit the adventures of Pantomime Horse, or Confuse-A-Cat again.
If i ever become a king im getting 2 patsys
Definitely worth having a look at the Life of Brian. It is very different and great fun
I'm glad you liked it
If you liked this you should seriously consider reacting to The life of Brian. They had a bigger budget for that one...
Gotta do all 4 monty python movies, including the forggoten one yellow beard
The Life of Brian is also fun and upset the status quo at the time
it's not a movie, it's a joke about movies.
Should watch John Cleese in the comedy show Fawlty Towers, only 12 30 minute (or so) episodes.
Like they say they don’t make them like they used to.
My favorute part of all this is the tale of sir galahad
Look at the bones!
YESSS LOVE THIS
If you've watched Player one, it's featured
funny 🤣
Help help!!! I’m being repressed!!!

Well, in their deflense, this could hardly be said to've been 'written' , by any conventional standards.
CONSTANT CHATTER,...... after 3:45 min,.......see ya!
It's called a "reaction" for a reason, not a "sit in silence and watch a movie".
