It's a skit, but at the same time, look at Tsuchiya's technique, his heel-to-toe is perfect, his shifts are perfect, his steering control perfect, his lines were amazing....lets not forget he is in a car with 165hp and won...pure genius.
Took the time to poke around on Google...the GT-R's driver is a Thai youtuber who runs a car-focused channel. His car control isn't terrible...being able to fire off a heel-toe is enough to show that...but he's a club-level racer at best, on a track against a pair of professionals, one of which is a motoring legend. What killed him was not having the confidence to throw it in and trust it on the limit...can see under braking that he was constantly second-guessing himself [modulating the pedal], compared to the other two who stomped with authority and held it there.
Wow, this video is that sweet spot vaporwave aesthetic. Was this actually produced in 2000 or did they use vintage camera equipment to give it that look? It almost looks too good to be real.
"Unskilled driver" but he utilizes heel and toe technique during cornering in few occassions, I couldn't even master heel and toe in such quick manner.
No joke, when I bought my WRX STI it took me 1 month to learn manual and another to fully grasp heel toe. If you grew up driving manual or like me have to drive the car to work every day heel toe is the least difficult thing they're doing. If you have non-stop-sign turns those are the best simulation to practice, but in general, to get the timing and muscle memory, I've found that getting off the freeway into a stop light was the best place you can practice heel toe. Just heel toe your way from 6th gear to 1st before stopping and the motion will just end up becoming second nature eventually. It's super satisfying and actually helps preserve your brakes more if done correctly as engine braking will take some load off your brakes. He's a great driver but he's "unskilled" in race driving, which focuses a lot more on braking timing, cornering lines, throttle control, and choosing the right gear. Evidently he lost precisely because he got distracted and mis-shifted, braked too late and accelerated too soon (understeer) and lost him the ideal line, which let the others pass him.
In some ways, while the GTR did seem to be straying far from the realm of total control, his early corner entries were actually understandable. In relation to the R34 and the 86s it is going toe-to-toe with, early corner-entries can work well as a defensive tactic, as long as the driver sticks rather close to the apex. With less weight (and by extension high early/mid-corner speed and later braking points), the 86 does have a massive advantage in the corner entrances (especially as both featured in this video seemed to be modified in such a manner in order to capitalize and improve upon this strength, as opposed to relying equally or more on high power figures), where if the R34 decides to take a late entry, the Corollas will be able to overtake and (possibly) proceed to block the corner exit, where the GTR's power will come to fruition, especially because of how easy it is to control said power due to the ATTESA-ETS. If the GTR takes an early entry, especially in the narrower sections of the course, it can block the road with its immense girth until the apex and take advantage of the power of the RB26 to prevent being overtaken at the corner exit. However, perhaps it was all staged, with the early entries simply emphasising the alleged "skill level" of the driver, simply refined for television. Additionally, it did seem as if the driver was taking the rubbish lines on purpose, which did seem somewhat forced, to an extent. This may also explain why he subtly gave way to the Eight-Sixes in the latter half of the race, why such an "unskilled driver" was able to execute perfect heel-to-toe downshifts, and also why the driver seemed to be egotistical up to an unrealistic extent.

The dude in the GTR isn’t a bad driver, it is obvious that he is taking bad lines on purpose.
