Lorne Greene: "Young at Heart"
-- Remote: Tour of NYC
Wow. What the hell happened to late night TV? I'd completely forgotten how good it used to be.
Two words....Political Correctness...
.
Wow.......Elvis singing "Hamburger, medium-rare........" on the Old MacDonald Had A Farm song just MAY be the single best album cut Dave ever played off of one of these albums !! (14:39)
Also, AMAZING to see the amount of effort BOTH Dave and Paul put into taping all the bits for their 'romp' around Manhattan together, set to Lorne Greene's "You Make Me Feel So Young" (27:22)!!
Sadly, like A LOT of the things he did in his earlier NBC days, this kind of extended effort that Dave would put into stuff like this seemed to slowly be cut WAY back on once he moved over to CBS in '93, where he became A LOT less 'fun' over time.......still good, but DEFINITELY less overall fun than in his earlier years.....
As always, thank you for posting ALL this amazing Letterman (AND Tom Snyder) stuff !!
.
You're right Elvis singing Old McDonald is the best album Dave could play
I was in high school back when these originally aired and remember some of these albums and jokes, especially Cool Breeze. You forget how great the show was back then until you see this stuff again. Thanks for posting it!
The ice tea and Heino ones have been permanently engraved on my memory since I first caught them in '85, lol. Thanks for posting these!
After all these years I still remember the Stevie Nicks guest saga LOL
Thanks for these, Donz. Never realized how many of these records were used in multiple sketches.
That's because they're from Dave's personal record collection
I've waited 30 years to hear Any Woman Can Be A Lesbian again. 8:50
Are you familiar with the phrase, "Every Single Time?"
Well, you guessed it. It applies here.
DAVE'S RECORD COLLECTION YEAH!!!
crash! bang!
9:42 - "DAVE'S RECORD COLLECTION, YEAH, DAVE, DAVE.... DAVE'S RECORD COLLECTION, YEAH!"
These are great to see again!
Paul ad-libbing that he was “going into mining”, when he retires from the show, was brilliant, but totally lost on the live audience.
A lot of Dave’s show was like that.
I'm going to iTunes right now and search for any music from Heino.
Been looking over 20+ years for Chris Eliot lip synching to Stevie Nicks!!! 18:52
The best DRC theme at 4:43.
26:27 I saw the Lorne Greene bit when it originally aired in 1986. Never missed a LATE NITE after that. So funny !
more ..more more MORE!!!!!! yippy
Robert Mitchem seemed pretty cool. He was just trying to help the native people get paid legally, etc. I admire that, because he didn't have to help anyone.
Actual comedy gold, folks!
Good to know that even David Letterman had something to say about the cult classic *Philosophy of the World.*
7:50 - Sly is dearly missed.
17:03 - What a strange, strange subject for an album.
21:37 - Never heard of the film before looking at Dave's record collection.
Hey Don, can you please please find the clip of David talking about an album called Heartsounds by some veterinarian. I couldn't find it in the lists of the ones you've posted so far. Help! Trying to surprise a friend of mine.
Figures; it was the one Record Collection segment I neglected to include. From June 18, 1986. Will do but not right away.
Oh man, that Shaggs record must go for a pretty penny now!
My Uncle Thumper had a problem with HIS probate, and he had to take these big pills, and drink lots of water.
ich liebe dich HEINO!!!!
Holy cow... two instances of the Iced Tea overture!
9:27 Gotta wonder what kind of letters showed up at this PO Box after this.
How cool is Robert Mitchum? Also, how stoned was Robert Mitchum?
Way stoned, for life!
Dave, I've loved you since "PIZZA DOUGHNUTS"!
December 17th 1985. I turned 15.
Look, kids! The new Heino record is here.
When can we see Dave's Rock Collection collection?
"I Been HIBMOTIZED!" 6:38
Ah, The Shaggs. How the White Stripes was inspired.
Stevie's like Alcoa!
EVERY SINGLE TIME! 8:52
I always thought the Lesbian song was a made up joke... I WAS WRONG!!!! 😂 😂 😂
It's even more funny knowing that it's real!!
Do you think Robert Mitchum wanted to punch out Dave? Or did he have a sense of humor?
this show was great... late night is a joke now and has been for a while... Mitchum was a scary nut lol, Dave showing NO FEAR lol I love it.
Fuckin' Heino!
And remember: “Anyone can be a lesbian.”
Oof, I've got to dig out that "Any woman can be a lesbian" song for next time I argue with a third wave feminist.
