    Cricket is a fun game. It's a lot different than 501. In x01 you are playing against the board. In cricket you are playing against the board and your opponent. I would recommend a book called "How to master the game of cricket" by Jason Carter. As an American I'm really enjoying these cricket videos!

    This was fun to watch. Basically you don’t ever want to give your opponent game darts. Think of it like making sure they are on a bogey number in 01 and you know you’ll be back to the board regardless of what they do.
    So not just staying ahead in points, but staying ahead 10 marks so even if they hit a round of 9 they can’t catch you. That’s why a lot of times you didn’t understand why Danny would continue to point

    That looked like alot of fun, I have the same mindset as you when it comes to switching to open number, I always wondered why they would never close out the higher value targets and instead opt to score on a lower value. I see now how that mindset can be your undoing especially if the person you are playing has that experience along with a deadly accuracy, kinda like a game of chess and forcing your opponent to expose their queen and keep them on the chase. I believe this would be a good game that would benefit 501 as well with all the high value trebles and bull being the objective.

    Love the commentary! As a lower shooter in a league here, our tactics are a bit different due to the quality of players we face. However I have played in some mixed leagues where it is lower and upper shooters and I love those kinds of leagues for learning their tactics in cricket and 01. I believe our top division, and I heard you mention that Danny mentioned this, they play for a greater than 9 mark lead. We in the lower divisions focus on points ahead and behind and they are looking at number of marks whether that be a result of points ahead or numbers closed. Usually points ahead like I saw Danny doing. I have even seen some let you keep pointing your number and they steadily 4-7 mark each other number and next thing you know you are still throwing at that one number and they have closed all the other ones. I actually did that one summer league with our upper shooter captain. I noticed him shooting at other numbers and our opponent kept shooting 18 to try and get a points lead ahead. I asked if he wanted me to do the same and he said "sure" lol. It was quite a different strat than I would do in our lower divisions.
    Thanks for sharing this!!

    As an American softtip player this is really great to watch to see just how foreign the strategy is to those that didn't come to darts in this game. Obviously the softtip game is even more point heavy as hitting 6-9 marks is even more prevalent. Still the standard here was really quite amazing.

    So the game where the scorer messed up, it was still messed up even after it was "fixed." Matt threw a white horse 9 mark tripling the 20, 19, and 18. Then Danny threw a 6 mark in the 17. Then Matt started by throwing a single 17, then threw two 20s. The mess up was that Matt was given two 17s and only one 20. The score was fixed giving Matt the 40 points, but you left him with two 17s when he had only hit one. Obviously it didn't end up making a difference, but still. I'm surprised I couldn't find any other comments mention this.

    haha i guess the tactics are quite simple really. try to score as much as you can above your opponent's score before you start opening new numbers or closing your opponent's numbers. having a big enough lead eases the pressure of opening/closing in the next round, and even if you dont manage to open/close well in the next round, your opponent would need to score big to gain a lead over you. and try not to use the bull for scoring since the segment is smaller.

    • @dirtyharry2029
      @dirtyharry2029 2 года назад +1

      Scoring heavily is not what he is doing. Danny is just trying to take some of the darts out of Matts hand is all he is doing. At a good to elite level here in the US you are trying to stay ahead 60-100(more if you are playing a serious tournament or match) points at any given time. That is not considered scoring heavily. The last thing I want you to do is have a great round get 1 single mark ahead and take a shot at my numbers. I wanna force you to keep throwing the same number until you make a mistake I can capitalize. Scoring heavily would be trying to put you 200 points down.

      Because you only score points AFTER the segment is closed. So if you have them closed (3 total marks) and your opponent does not have them closed, anything you hit will count as points. Edgar closed 3 different numbers but didn’t gain any points. If he would of hit three T20’s it would of been 120 total points because the first T20 closed the number

This cricket match was awesome....John Part....is a master at knowing the game of cricket...killer..etc. Danny..and the North American players know cricket in there sleep. Every weekend they play...there playing 2 3 cricket events. You can see the difference between the 2 players here. Not being critical of Matt at all...a World class player but cricket doesnt put coin in his bank account in the pdc. In North America...Darts doesnt put enough money in there players account. Which is why you see so many events in a tournement which would run Friday through to Sunday night. But alot less money. Strategically speaking....Matt using proper cricket strategy would have win this match.

      @@Edgartvdarts You actually hit four rounds of 9 to Danny's three. That 12-dart leg was super, but a risky strategy to hang your hat on for an entire match.
      One rule of thumb in the States applies when you have a single dart left in your hand: If your opponent has more than one number closed on you and you have your own number to score on, use it. You can't close 2 numbers with one dart, so get some insurance with your own points.
      Some of us amateurs take that a step further: If your opponent only has one number closed on you, but you need more than a fat single to close it, point on your own number if you have one. Last dart trebling to close an opponent's number is heroic, but for us non-pros, it usually backfires when we miss.

      @@Edgartvdarts also I said 5+ marks. at yalls level, its probably closer to 7. some people over point imo and let opponents back in, but I was always told you cant lose with more points. taking chances at closing just gives chances to your opponent

      @@Frady180 was going to say 5 marks is nothing for some of the big boys here in the US. I play with Soldier down here in TX along with a few other big names 9+ marks is where you wanna be when you consider a hole and 100 points+ 5-7 your asking to get 9 marked or punished.

    • @Frady180
      @Frady180 2 года назад

      @@dirtyharry2029 absolutely! 5 was always the rule of thumb on got and in most matches thats a good place to be. realistically youre the 501 equivalent of 100 points ahead, but if they hit that 180 youre behind now. Youre correct though that just like the 100 points ahead used to be the PDC standard for in control, those guys want to stay 140+ ahead if they can. with the big boys 7+ in steel is a good enough place, 9+ in Soft. Steel/Soft matters a ton

    Id love to see pdc start organizing super matches with its players. Bring them to a big venue...pay there accomadations...feed them pay them there appearence fee and offer up as an example 10k for winning and 2.5 k for losing. Run it over 2 days..give them the 3rd day for family..dinner..press..media etc.

    Played Danny a couple of times , he kicked my butt. We play alot of cricket in America, think its a more fun game to play , you can just score points , or move around the board , you get four numbers you can shoot at , and the other guy has one to score on, he can't close you out. I once saw a game between Roger Carter and Steve Brown back in ninteys, and every game went over 1200 points.

    A lot of talk in the comments about strategy and tactics. A few years ago Darren Webster went to the USA and played in a cricket tournament which featured a lot of the top experienced cricket players in North America. Darren was unfamiliar with cricket but still managed to make the final where he lost to Boris Krcmar. If the game is so tactical how does a novice like Darren Webster beat all those other players with their so called 'strategy'?

    its not rocket science the reason we point so much because we are used to rounds so we know if we have the most points when the rounds run out we win thats why you see higher caliber like danny shoot points first before danny went to the pdc i sponsored and played with him damn near everyday

      Really enjoyed the match though. Being from the states we play more cricket than 501 just because it doesn't take as long. (Our skill level in general doesn't compare to yours) Danny Baggish is American if I'm not mistaken. Probably why he knows the strategy even though you're skill levels are in the same realm.

    Hey Matt. Lov3 how you're playing some non 501 games like cricket. Big problem with this video is that you analysed the games with another person who doesn't know anything about cricket! Why didn't you get Danny to do it? The commentary is two people who have no cricket experience so I don't think viewers will learn anything. Some.of the '10 mark' stuff is ok but it's not explained clearly enough. Tactics and strategy are also different. I sometimes come across jose de sousa online on Phoenix. He's a heavy scorer! That's the best strategy you can learn! Higher treble with equally skilled opponent should get the W

      I live in the USA and when I first started watching the PDC about 7-8 years ago, I was surprised to see that they only play 501. I've wanted to see those guys play cricket ever since. I came to the conclusion that covering a set of Cricket on television would play hell for commercial breaks, as one leg could be an epic (like Leg1) and one could go by in 4 rounds (like Leg3). Thanks Matthew for putting this type of content up, I really enjoy it.
