- A new study suggests there may be a connection between hair dye/hair relaxer use and breast cancer. But what is this risk, and should you stop using hair dyes and relaxers?

Some black women age 40yrs. old and older have gone back to wearing and caring for their natural texture of hair 💇🏾♀️. I am one of them. No more perms/relaxers will be touching this scalp and hair of mine! Also, I love it that black women have alot of RUclips channels they can choose to subscribe to that shows black sisters showing us how to care and style our natural texture. Our black is beautiful 💗
I hear you!! And yes black is beautiful! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Me too, I stopped! Back to natural beauty
We all have a right to make our on choices. It’s important the information gets to everyone so that they can make the choice with all the information available.
I quit relaxing months ago and back to natural. The relaxer was making my hair thin and falling out.But now my hair is natural and growing back and thicker.
Yay!!!!
Thanks for making the study plain and using visual imagery
Of course- glad you liked it!
Why are we not protected?
Isn’t it an easy thing to do, and oblige manufacturers to work differently?
Not a bad idea
Just wear your natural hair, thats it. They will always cut corners.
Hi Dr. Jen Caudle. Since this segment came out, do you know of any non toxic/natural hair relaxers? Or any effective hair color treatments for gray hairs? Also, do you know if there is a link to the chemicals used in wigs and weaves? I worry that just wearing it can also expose me to chemicals. Really appreciate this video.
I quit the dye. I am white with grey hair. I saw my friend have a bad reaction. It was terrifying. Her eyes swelled up like slits.
Oh no!
You can use henna or the powder hair color.
7% to 45%! What a huge difference! What are the percentages in relaxers?
Not sure
I'm mixed race with curly hair and often try different haircuts so I relax my hair sometimes. Guess I will stop doing this then.
It depends on your preferences! I have another video on this as well
Confident composure. Bless you!!!
🙏🏾
Thank you for highlighting this hidden danger.
What are the chances that a much safer relaxer will ever be produced/marketed?
Honestly I don’t know
@@DrJenCaudle I would make one if I could. I've been natural for over ten years. No chemicals and very little heat. Very little. I love my natural hair. It is beautiful! But my hair is dense and long, (past my ribcage), and frankly, tires me out! Plus, I would love to be able to show off it's length without so much effort. I never thought I would, but I miss my relaxed hair. Thanks for replying.
Very good informations .
Thank u Dr Jen.
Much respect from Somalia🖐
Thank you!
For black women that want to straighten their hair why not make an organic straightener using plants?
It's chemicals. Unless people wanna use lemon spray.
@@beefortebrea9386 So is lotions, perfumes, conditioners, aspirin. Just do your research before you put anything on your skin and scalp.
A hot oil treatment using extra virgin olive oil actually straightens hair.
It's not just breast but skin cancer which I had stopped coloring my hair 5 years
Oh wow
What weIrd stats. Why would the risk be higher for black women using the same products. It seems reasonable that the women who colored their hair also relaxed it which is where the difference comes from.
It’s definitely a complicated topic
Excellent Topic Doctor Jen. Hair Dyes and RELAXERS causing Cancer. Why do people dye hair in the first place. If it is for variety, I get it. In my humble opinion , i understsnd chemically Disturbed hair Cause cancer and other skin Cancers. Don't you think we should leave our hair alone to remain in its Natural color? I think we should leave our Natural hair in its Natural State. But i love using Argon oil Organic Cocunut oil for my hair instead . What do you think about using Argon oil and Organic. Do argon oil and coccunet oil has any potential concern? See you on the next topic . I am excitedly looking farwarward ar what Next Topic you will inform about. See you then Doc
University of Life organic hair isn’t a whole lot better than regular hair dye.
@@maryhamm6970 Thank you for your insights The Land of Fantasy, i would love to hear more from you how organic hair isn't a whole lot better than regular hair dye.
@@maryhamm6970 The land of Fantasy.Thank you for your insights. but how is organic hair not a whole lot better than regular hair dye.
Thank you, Dr. Jen. I wonder if that has the same effect on black men that color their hair. Would you be kind to explain it to me. Thank you so much.
It’s a good question but we don’t know because this wasn’t studied in men. Hopefully we’ll have further research soon!
@@DrJenCaudle , Thank you so much Dr. Jen.
This was not a cause and effect study. They didn't actually see any cause or effect here.
Considering men are also just human , then yea applying toxic chemicals to their head is going to cause some health problems . It’s common sense .
👋🏼💨🥱h we get everything in larger numbers except
Justice.
😞
Could lifestyle play a role in this too? About 80% of us are overweight/obese, we live in inner cities where we are exposed to pollutions, we’re a healthcare vulnerable group due to lack of access coupled with medical racism. there seems to be no real answers and it always comes back to poor lifestyle decisions.
That’s a good point- always possible that lifestyle plays a role
Isn't using relaxers included in lifestyle?
@@jamaicaunfilterd Yes. However I don't see this much push back on any other health issue on the black community. Tell a black woman to stop using relaxer and everyone is for it, even when they pose a minimal health risk. Tell a black woman to lose weight and people on social media try to get you fired from your job even when weight has direct, indisputable link to health. If we're going to be healthy lets be healthy where it counts.
Like I'm going to go to Doctor Oz to find out if relaxing hair products are causing cancer in women? I lost respect for the dude years ago.
Ok
I have read studies that says it can cause fibroids as well.
V Me, we delved into the scientific studies and presented the facts in an engaging way ruclips.net/video/8IGKuoH-tl0/видео.html
Wow 😯 😮
It’s not about never relaxing your hair. you have to base your scalp properly. So the chemicals don’t absorb. Also switch to thio relaxers instead of the usual hydroxide
Try to stretch your relaxer to ever 3 months/12 weeks. Instead of the usual 8 weeks. Just like the woman that colored her hair every 6 weeks got ill.
Honestly, i hate all women have the same hair styles. All individuals should try to work with their natural hair as much as possible. Don't buy magazines. Enjoy yourself
Why all the answers are beginning with “May”??????????
where is the study? pubmed name?
The Obiribea where is a quick summary with sources ruclips.net/video/8IGKuoH-tl0/видео.html
Your hair reveals your health. If you don't know what the quality of your hair is then you are covering up something that is telling you that you might be sick. Also, you can not eat shit all day then complain about the quality of your natural hair.
@drjen
Are you still straightening your hair or have you gone natural or found another option
Yes I am but hopefully will stop
@@DrJenCaudle you should try the Dyson air dry. I have it and I love it! Wet to dry with no damage. I have had it for 2 months so far and it’s the best hair tool I have ever had hands down. It’s a bit pricy at $500 but it’s worth every penny. Before I had my twins I had the most beautiful straight frizz free hair. From fertility drugs, after the kids, it started growing in dry, frizzy and unevenly wavy. I stopped relaxing, I only needed it once a year because the top of my hair is straight, ears down starts the wave. Once I heard about the connection to cancer two months ago I decided to buy the Dyson air dry.
can you post a link for the study
I don’t know that I have it
We still have those rubbish sold in France, it's unbelievable
I don’t get it, she got wigs on.....😂😂😂😂
It’s a weave
