    Fortnine's video didn't say armor was useless. He said most commonly sold armor was useless because it just wasn't made for serious impacts. He did says that pro grade armor was great and airbags are second only to a helmet as a safety item

    • @Kwixis
      @Kwixis Месяц назад +4

      If i remember correctly i believe he said something along the lines of, armor is a complementary layer to your gear to protect you from scratches and abrasion in general, but sucks at disipating energy the way an airbag does. so yeah you could technically say its useless on the parts that you got covered with airbags.

      And he didn't even say they're useless. They're just not good for the thing they're rated for, which no one I've seen has even attempted to refute. It won't save you from impact. And he did mention that it can help with slides.

When I was younger I learned to fly motorbikes but never learned to land them properly! Really looking forward to a 500 cc Zimmer frame that will get me out of the old people's home when I need to meet my mistress. Keep up the good work of showing me what I am missing. Not making an old man feel happy but making a happy man feel old.

    • @davidbrayshaw3529
      @davidbrayshaw3529 Месяц назад +1

      For your first Zimmer frame, maybe a 250 would be better, especially if you're not great at sticking the landings. Keep in mind that modern Zimmer frames are light and don't need too much to power them along, unlike the old ones. I'd steer clear of 2 strokes, though. Most aged care facilities are cracking down on them due to emissions. Hope this helps.

    • @vtxfan
      @vtxfan Месяц назад +3

      Yes! In the US only 3-percent of vehicles are motorcycles, and they account for only 0.6-percent of miles driven. Doesn’t seem like the real reason should be emissions

    • @babyfknblu
      @babyfknblu Месяц назад +3

      this has a real answer - they're not only exempt from euro emissions standards (most "full size" suvs and trucks are exclusively for sale in the US/canada, the ford ranger is the biggest available in EU, for example. they don't get the f150), there is also a corporate tax exemption incentive to purchase any vehicle for commercial use over 6000 lbs. any dummy with an LLC can get a huge tax break by buying a truck and driving it to a meeting once a month.

    • @babyfknblu
      @babyfknblu Месяц назад +1

      most motorcycles aren't anywhere near breaking US or CARB emissions laws, altho some of them are closer to violate California noise laws. it's the EU laws they have to worry about, and since so many massive trucks and suvs are exclusively for sale in north america, they can simply ignore those rules.

    About what Fort N9ne said: gear does help. Falling with gear isn’t as bad as falling without it.
    Having said that, jumping off a building with a pillow ain’t doin shit. The majority of the gear is defeated by the forces that are present in motorcycle crashes. It’s not anti gear. I wouldn’t even say it’s anti most gear. It’s anti these bastards making shit products because of trash regulations and getting us fucked when we ride. Buy gear that ACTUALLY works.

If I was Yam and some dude went on a rant and started with ‘all gear is hot garbage’, I’d probably say it’s bs and tune the rest out. Not saying that’s how it went down, but I can see it happening. Besides that sometimes ppl make mistakes or misunderstand.
      The point and the purpose is to keep people informed and safe. We don’t have to say ‘maybe you’re trying to stir the pot’ to do that. That’s the kind of thing that makes ppl not want to listen and motorcycle safety is too important a topic to allow those kinds of statements to potentially hinder the message.

I'm almost 60, I got my road licence in the mid 80's, in Australia, when there was a blanket rule of "nothing bigger than 250cc for beginners" at the time. My learner bike from the 80's is very basic compared to the options available today. Someone just starting to ride now has so many more options and features available to them that I ever could have imagined possible when I got my learner licence 40 years ago.

    I work at a cycle gear, and literally 98% of the guys who own 1000cc bikes have more money than brains. A small percentage have an actual motorcycle endorsement, and an even smaller number have taken an MSF class. I worked my way up the cc ladder as well, but I also educated myself along the way with MSF courses. Currently, I ride the CFmoto 450ss and personally think that’s all the bike someone needs. It's economical, packed with features, affordable, and sporty when needed. I literally sold my Kawasaki zH2 because it was "too much" for almost everything except going fast in a straight line. After owning 23 motorcycles since 2018, I believe you need 3 bikes, maybe 4: a capable sport class, adventure/touring, and classic/cruiser. Obviously, this is my opinion, but going fast in a straight line gets old quick and leads you to do more dangerous stuff like weaving in and out of cars or whatever. I wasn’t the one who came up with this saying, but it’s true, "it’s more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow."

    This may sound stupid but, I have a genuine new rider question. So I have been looking for my first bike for about… I’d say a year or 2. I am finally saying screw it, getting my license and going to actively search for a bike. I have been looking a lot this past week and a half again. And I have noticed that I see a lot of bikes as low as 2007s for basically MSRP and anything that’s less have a lot of issues, or no title, or something along those lines. I am looking to buy an R3 or a Ninja 400. Would it be recommended to just go new and probably get a loan for the bike? Or wait and try to find a cheaper bike/wait until prices go down? No looking for financial advice, but to me it makes sense to get a used bike with 2k miles for 4800 than buying a 2700 bike that’s been dropped a few times and is missing parts. And a 2008 that’s listed for 4300. I have been always told buy used first bike… but cost wise doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to em

      Save up slightly more cash and buy used, a year or two old with a couple miles on the clock. You'll usually find something with a $1-3k discount off MSRP plus you'll save another $1-2k on fees and bs dealer charges. If you can put $4-5k together, you'll get into a really nice starter bike. Don't finance your first bike, lol. Arguably don't ever finance a bike.

    I can understand the of café builds, but oof is the aftermarket poorly engineered. I feel like as soon as I open a box I have to modify something to do more than just look the part.
    Was curious how I haven’t cracked the frame my 2013 Scrambler, but come find out in examining the cross section of another frame it’s because she thick.
    Really like how those first modern classic Bonnie variants were over built, but simple.

    FortNine is not wrong but it's also not right... play hockey on ice and tell me whether or not wearing the gear works or not... it may not save you in a 45kmh plus incident, you are more likely to slide after that but anything slow-speed could be the difference between being in agony for a few weeks or brushing it off... for a tiny bit of discomfort, I'd rather be brushing it off.

    Triumph discontinued the Thruxton because the Royal Enfield Interceptor rendered the Thruxton pointless. If you want a retro cafe racer, you can buy the interceptor for half the price of the Thruxton and get a better-looking bike. Since Triumph couldn't compete on price, it tried to up the horsepower of the Thruxton. That didn't help because if you want a retro cafe racer you don't care about horsepower. The Thruxton ended up in this no man's land where it was too expensive to attract retro buyers and didn't have enough performance to attract sport bike buyers. The Thruxton just didn't have a audience any longer.

    I find it funny that the experience of the driver is linked to the displacement of the engine in most Motorcycle videos. The best driver I know personally drives a 250 for the most part.
    Also the term "Beginner bike" seems strange. There are bikes better vor beginners than others but if I drive a 400x for the rest of my life will I still be a beginner?

    The industry needs many more motorcycles in the 200 cc and smaller range for commuting and riding off road. More dual sport machines. Yamaha and Honda make them but don't sell them in the USA. I'm interested in the Honda XL150L, but it's made in Mexico. Everything made in Mexico is crap. GM and Ford are learning that now with their Mexican vehicles having bad reputations and lots of recalls.

    Being put on a daily prescription of blood thinner 6 years ago eclipsed my historic ATGATT regimentation seeing as possibly bleeding out internally was more likely than suffering some road rash. Looking back at my 45 years of riding I gotta admit, however, the half hour spent donning my armored leathers, boots, gloves, and helmet before each ride was growing tedious.🙄
