Recap by Tammy AI
As a trumpet player starting to learn guitar that trumpet analogy was so spot on! For years, I had struggled to get past certain learning material because I just want to be able to sight read it like I can with the instrument I’m most familiar with!
I think the book is fantastic. A little, no, way over my head. But I have a basic understanding of music theory and I understand the basic triads and inversions on the neck, along with the major and pentatonic scales and modes.
Yikes. I was a good trumpet player. I could read anything, but couldn't play by ear to save my life. I'm enjoying developing an ear late in life, without reading!!!
The interval material is awesome. Tomo Fujita taught me triads on his RUclips channel. Changed my guitar life. But then he told me intervals are the key. Some of my favorite players started out with pentatonics, then chord tone focusing, and then became interval hunters. Really interesting.
My time at Berklee in retrospect was swimming a few feet below the surface in a sea of material. Going deep makes you miss so much skimming does the same. I think about 250 years would give me a good chance at figuring out some of it.
I ordered the book in spite of my "iron clad" rule that I buy no reference or study books that are not spiral bound.
Such a book will be very difficult to put on a music stand, keep open on a table or otherwise be convenient to use.
I will take mine and have it spiral bound, an inconvenience and added expense.
Consider the student, have the book spiral bound.
Congratulations on the book, I am looking forward to its arrival.
Congratulations Kim and team. I ordered my book!
Hi Larry, you probably won’t remember me, as my teachers were Hank Wiktorowicz, Charlie Chapman and Al Defino, I was there from 1978-1980 (I graduated in 1980). I’m glad you’re still there I remember you around the guitar dept. all the time. Congratulations on the new book I’m going to get a copy soon.
My daughter bass player Valeria Falcon also graduated from Berkeley last year. Berklee has made a big difference in our lives.
Best Regards
Alvaro Falcon
