Berklee College of Music was the first institution of higher education to grant a degree with guitar as the principal instrument. To this day, Berklee's Guitar Department remains the largest and most stylistically diverse guitar program in the world.
Many of the world's most ground-breaking guitarists studied at Berklee, including Mike Stern, Leni Stern, Kevin Eubanks, Bill Frisell, Gillian Welch, Emily Remler, John Scofield, Steve Vai, St. Vincent, and Adrianne Lenker and Buck Meek of Big Thief. Our alumni community includes current and former faculty such as: Mick Goodrick, Pat Metheny, Sheryl Bailey, Wayne Krantz, Tomo Fujita, David Tronzo, and Tim Miller. Meet some of our alumni.
They joined our Berklee community because of who we are: the world's largest independent music school and the premier institution for the study of contemporary music.

Another Pittsburgh Jazz Legend: Ben Sher!
😊😊
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for making me so happy. You're awesome!
You ever meet this guy? I did once: a gem
Tom.
I would be soooo happy to see a David Tronzo solo album! Mr. Tronzo, on behalf of your many fans 🎉 - please do a solo guitar album!
"A note matters because of the note before it, or the note after it or a note that's happening at the same time."
I went to Berklee in the guitar department. It was a wonderful experience. I am from Pennsylvania originally and also from a small town close to Kutztown. Thank you for this memory 💘
Id say he passed 😂
hey Kim, where's your coffee? seriously, very great piece
Very nice!
Very Nice!
almost sounds microtonal
Beautiful, Mr. Lockhart
27:31 Questions start
The kind of playing I want to hear. 🎵
Awesome.
I count myself very fortunate to have seen Guy Van Duser twice in concert - the first time at McCabe’s in Santa Monica where he opened, unbelievably, for Lenny Breau! Years later I saw him again at Boulevard Music in Culver City. I bought a CD and he graciously autographed it for me. I can’t say enough about his prowess! Wonderful! My exposure to fingerstyle guitar goes back to one year, 1962, spent at UNC Chapel Hill, but from then on I was hooked. Coincidentally, my mother was a Fats Waller and Bessie Smith fanatic so it was a revelation to hear him play tunes like Alligator Crawl.
Van Duser and Breau at one show, wow.
Randy is an exceptional musician! Fun tidbit: In the 90s I remember he would vacation at Paugus Bay in Laconia, NH, just like I did as a teenager (I spent the summers there). We had some great times together with his family. If he's reading this, he'll totally get a kick out of "Vindshield VIPER!!!"
I took scales 101 from Larry. Wonderful professor.
Learned guitar from David's Acoustic Guitar Method books. Glad I found them .... great books written with a sense of humor. Thank you David.
Excellent opportunity to get valuable and supporting information and insights by highly experienced professionals and educators - I really appreciate it - thank you all so much for sharing your expertise❤
Another great episode ❤
wow that's really cool, i've been using elastic bands and pencils, any other suggestions?
that ending is incredible
I just finished studying with. Tremendous player and fantastic teacher.
Play Always the bridesmaid..! 🎸
What is that funk tune you wrote w the school changes? Essentially a blues but some sauce in there… circa 2001
the sound quality is not well adjusted, but Tosin is amazing
Badass!
beautiful music jim. yours tthodoris (theo) (old berklee student with you)
That’s some sauce, Scotty! 🎸🍯
Some saucey references there!
The Stern's honesty is amazing what a great couple!
Starts at 10:30... you're welcome
reverb! Julian needs it on this video!
Not a good decision to plug him directly into the board and record it that way. Hello? Ever heard of mic' ing the amp, so we get some of the way Jules hears it? But Berklee recording engineers are the the best so I guess that's the way it should be.
Mike and Leni are looking great! And both so very talented!
just wow this is the most amazing version I’ve heard, such a talented musician all around
what guitar is she using
what guitar is she using?
I wish I could have attended the concert. It's great that they record these. It is nice to see your teachers playing!
I literally can’t hear this song without getting the biggest smile on my face :)
Same here Brother
That's cool man. First time I've heard somebody use delay like that since van halen done it on cathedral.
Thanks for stopping by!
Great music and fantastic musicians! I hope the overly loud guitar of Julian Lage was due to some recording imbalance and not a lack of sensitivity in the situation...
Sublime!
Such a cool and intelligent guy.
I was fortunate enough to have the great Bobby Stanton as a teacher, and I still tell all my musician friends about him 25 years later. He is every bit as great of a human being as he is a guitar player, and he taught me the importance of this too.
Great, AS USUAL, Bobby! Anyone who gets the chance to learn from Bobby, take it! He won't be around forever, don't wait.
I studied with both of these guys at Berklee, both wonderful cats and amazing musicians!!
