Hi Scott! I found your channel because I just purchased the Berklee Guitar Theory Book by Kin Perlak and really excited about it! Then I made a searched and found your channel. I received mine last night and will start working on it tonight. Before that I was starting on the Jazz Theory Book by Mark Levine and that one is tough as well as I am a hobbyist and only recently embarked on starting to learn how to read notes via the Hal Leonard Method books. What you presented here is a great tip! Needless to say, you have a new subscriber!
Thanks for this. I'm guessing there is no way to check what one is doing against a CD or some such, which probably makes this a bit of a non-beginner book?
Dang! I'm going to purchase that guitar theory book. I could definitely use some big time improvement with my rhythmic vocabulary. Also I noticed you're using that music booklet! Awesome! Makes me happy!
What makes "guitar theory" different from the theory that any other instrumentalists study? The mechanics of instruments differ but the understanding of musical structures doesn't as far as I know.
Correct. Theory in general is applicable to any instrument. However, just book deals with different mechanics of how it’s presented on the instrument which makes it “guitar theory “
@@scotttarulli Guitar Mechanics sounds on point. Maybe it could be analagus to operating a slide rule (archaic reference, sorry) in that there's much to understand but it's pretty cut and dried fact.
@@ThomasGilmore-fi6gb theory itself can get pretty abstract. However, applying it to a specific instrument is a great place to start your creative journey. Theory can then be interpreted and applied to how the quote Guitarist quote sees fit.
@@scotttarulli Agreed. I'm well versed in music theory and if I wanted to play sax I'd just need to understand the mechanics, and have the balls to take on the muscle memory programming work.
I now only buy digital versions of books. It is finally available as a Kindle version now. :)

light bulb moment
Excellent book.
Unfortunately.. not spiral bound.
Show some consideration and respect for the musician who buys this.
