This is probably the best production of Hairspray i've seen, everyone in it is so talented! i love how into it the audience was. props to everyone involved and i hope they're still doing theatre
Mindblown. This is the best Corny, Maybelle, Velma and Ladies trio I've seen, and I've seen at least 10 different productions of this musical. The high notes threw my wig to outer space. Also, this has the best choreographies for hairspray ever. I can hear the bells was hilarious, there's no other production that had such creative ideas. This show and its cast has left some Broadway people unemployed.
As someone who has pretty much watch almost all the Hairspray productions on RUclips out there (may be an exaggeration lmao), but trust me I've watched A LOT of Hairspray productions and this one was one of the best ones I saw. I wouldn't say this is the top one but it's one of the top. The singers, the acting, the outfits, everything was perfect. The only thing unique about this one was that the audience was actually engaged and happy throughout the show which was literally one of the best things LOL
I totally agree like there are some people in the ensemble who aren't really fat but would've been a better choice even though the actress was good... Also, it felt like some of the costumes were really well planned for the time period and really good choices (The dresses for Nicest Kid) where some looked thrown together with no idea about it (mourning dresses in Baltimore)...
I remember these auditions at AMDA. The students in Songbook ran those musicals. If you wernt in Singbook GOOD LUCK getting in the show. You might get ensemble or small part if any. It got better when they all graduated and started trying to make an "album" lol . More students got opportunities to be in productions.
