The Lord of Pain is really fun (although I still haven't seen him winning) and it's a rare case of a precon feeling more tailored to the backup commander. Him only shutting down lifegain for opponents is also very nasty and could be explored in upgrades.
As a group slug player, i go into games knowing I will be bullied while the actual threat gets set up every game, but i will never stop lol having to remind everbody of the damage pings distracts them from the fact that somebody else is ALWAYS building a crazy board state. Worth it for the lolz 😂😂😂
Rendmaw needs Nim Deathmantle and Ashnod's Altar. Infinite goaded birds for the opponents, and by the time your next turn comes, there's only one opponent left. 😁
I was planning on building the Rendmaw deck, but I'm confused as to how this combo would fully play out. Would you mind explaining it in a little more detail?
@@ike2783 Cast Rendmaw, sac it and the bird to Ashnod's Altar, then use the 4 mana to pay for Deathmantle's trigger to bring Rendmaw back. Repeat as many times as you want. Your opponents will all have an army of birds that will be forced to attack each other. The first opponent who untaps will be forced to one-shot one of the other opponents, or both. If they one-shot only one, the surviving opponent will finish them off. So, two opponents gone by the time you get your next turn. Of course, you need a way to close out the game or wipe the board that turn, or, as this game showed, have something like Sandwurm Convergence. If you want to eliminate that last risk, you can add any aristocrat effect (win the game on the spot) or a replacement effect that increases token production like Parallel Lives or Doubling Season (you also get endless birds and finish off the last opponent).
You missed two triggers of Lord of Pain, I thought there were more, but some of it was said so fast that I missed those triggers! Lord of Pain triggers whenever A player plays their first spell, not just an opponent, just to clarify. The missed triggers were: 3 from the Rampaging Ferocidon, 4 from Valgavoth, which is still 7 damage that was missed. I think the issue with a commander like Lord of Pain is that people wil try to kill you ASAP, because you are a serious problem right away. So it made sense that everyone was trying to kill Max right away. Would have liked to see it win, but that is how it goes I guess. ✌
Some would say he did not realize the impact of the complicated board of a deck that he did not really play before or even built. Some would say he woke up that morning choosing Chaos. Some would say he just did not care about winning and just went for a fun play.
@@pretzelpop78 The Manifest creatures he was attacked with were nontoken. Any tokens he could use to block them would have still killed the manifests, and he would have lost two life each.
Matilda agrees with your assessment that Kianne is kinda mehh as a Commander. She was upset you stopped talking about Master of Keys, since it’s so much cooler!
Because it couldn't legally attack Maximus with the Sandwurm Convergence. Goaded creatures can still attack the owner when there is no other option that is legally available.
Because goad says "IF ABLE." Because of Sandwurm Convergence, the birds can't fulfill the condition to attack another player, but still must attack if able, so they're free to attack any player or permanent.
Very fun game! Interesting to see how different the pacing felt with the backup commanders, though it was a small sample size. Your cat seems to have very strong views about your deck analysis at the end though
I think lord of pain kinda sucks as a commander. It looks like he’s just as big of a target as Kaervek, and you have to target yourself for damage when you’re down to the 1v1? At first I thought he was just a power crept version of Kaervek but after seeing how this game went and reading the comments about how lord of pains trigger works, I’d rather just play Kaervek or Valgavoth.

Another note. When you are down to 1v1, when a oponnent cast a spell you MUST choose yourself to be dealt damage
Yep!
Good to note! The Lord of Pain seems cool
I really like the new background soundtrack. Also, surprise guest there at the end, purrfect. 🐱
I don’t know if you missed it, but lord of pain also deals damage when YOU cast a spell as well.
Noticed it around 7:22
I was literally just about to mention this. I think there was a lot of damage not being dealt
Damn, the hate against the Rakdos player was brutal to see xD. But that commander is indeed a menace
Master of Pain feels like he could be a really fun flash/instants commander. imagine bolt bending removal on him :D
Amazing lifegain commander too.
I'm glad I watched until the end. Definitely worthwhile!
That sandwurm convergence made me laugh so hard lmao
Fantastic game! Hoping to hear more from Matilda going forward ^_^
I NEED to build Rendmaw
Maxs terramorphic expanse play was so badass
Fun game! I think I liked these commanders more than the face commanders (except for Zimone, she seemed more interesting)

Never seen sand wurm convergence do anything before wow

But you won’t get infinite birds though so you just lose

@@DarkEinherjar Thank you!

Making a scarecrow rendmaw I’ve been waiting for a more on theme scarecrow commander!!!
Also thank you so much for actually using the secondary commanders I’ve been wanting to see them at work!
Great video!

Why on earth did matt play life insurance with his health at 3???

He thought it only affected his creatures.
