It's so beautifully dark, really enjoyed these 15 mins. Just wondering, what do you use for drums, in terms of source & triggers? They're always smooth, subtle & elegant :)
Thank Chief, I really appreciate the comment. Kicks are samples from Assimil8or. I use passive switches to trigger different kicks from the Ass8. I will use a dedicated kick module in the next iteration of this instrument because I will using an outboard mixer, freeing up more options for sculpting the kick. Hats are sometimes from Chimera or samples from A8. Hats are easily morphed with various macro controls (all 5 of my 1u quadratts are used exclusively for macro controls so I don't have to dig through piles of spaghetti). Snare is always from Fracture (love this guy for snares and weird granular fx). Hard panned ticks are different flavors of analog noise pinged through LPGs. Their rhythm is determined by marbles, a Ladik gate skipper and an attenuator. The rhythms for all other percussion is handled by wmd metron. It's such a powerful and playable rhythm sequencer and I'm only using it at like 25% capacity.
@@JamesFredrickson I've never looked into the A8, looks definitely like an interesting sample player with loads of modulation. Macro controls is definitely something I need to use more, I try to at least to keep the cables neat so I don't have to dig through spaghetti ;) Chimera is an interesting choice, also Fracture (but tends to be a bit too wild sometimes) Just recently got myself a Crucible and I love it. Like your choice of ladik gate skipper, some kind of controllable random gates. Seen Metron many times already, must be very powerful indeed, I think it also comes with a CV recorder extension, which is somewhat interesting. Thanks for explaining, quite interesting insight, I think I might try your noise though LPGs, that's quite cool and I've got this unused Swing module by eowave.
@@chiefthomson Fracture can get wild and could really benefit from running it through its own limiter/high ratio compressor. When I rebuild this instrument I will def consider the Crucible. I will also start record individual tracks into an outboard mixer. Mixing inside modular is a fun challenge but also maddening at times.
@@JamesFredrickson Totally agree, meanwhile ;) About 3 months ago I overhauled my whole system/patch/rack and went away from eurorack mixing. Got myself a 10 channel Soundcraft mixer with Lexicon built-in fx. I think it gave me a fresh sound and it all sits so much better in the mix, as you can control your low-end much more precise. Most sounds simply don't need low end. I would heavily recommend it.
Awesome stuff James…love it 🤘👽🛸
Thank you kindly 🙏

I don’t have any clue what you are doing with all these cables and buttons, but it sounds unbelievable good! Love it!
Guess you have new subscriber 🖤
Haha, thank you so much!
Amazing!
Thanks Wizard!!
super sick. you should come do some live sets at Earth Modular Society.
Thank you, yeah that would be really fun.
I would listen to a four-hour version of this.
Thank you. I hope to record some longer sets soon :)
Cool 🖤
thx :)
Loving this.
thx bro ;)
