I’m a little nervous about this one tbh, hopefully I didn’t go too far wrong. This is an ASMR Style video to help distract your busy mind.

      D500 predictions?

  • @Kvapilnation
    @Kvapilnation 6 месяцев назад +23

To answer some of the confusing bits.
Qualifying for the Daytona 500 is a bit different from every other race. On Wednesday they qualify for the front row (two fastest cars) and then they split the cars even and odd numbers in duels (2 races that are 60 laps each) and the finishing results from those races will make up the starting lineup/grid.
Black Flag- Means you've broken a rule or your car is putting others at risk (Oil leak, Parts hanging off)
Blue Flag- You are getting lapped and should get out of the way. Fun fact its actually not mandatory to get out of the way in NASCAR its a curiosity thing. F1 it is
Theres also a newer flag called the Green and White Checkered flag thag comes out during the end of stage. Theres also an extra thing when you win a stage called a playoff point that helps you out later in the season.
The points carry on after each race until the playoffs (thats a whole nother thing) So whoever crosses the line after the 200 laps does win the race, points are just an extra thing that go on for the championship.
Hope this helps :) Let me know if theres anything else youd like to know about.

great explanation of the race!! i did NOT expect to see my two favorite things- asmr & racing (nascar preferably)- to collide, although it does make sense it happens on this occasion. thank you for exposing nascar to new audiences!! it means so much to me, especially considering the nascar is unfortunately half as popular as it was 10 years ago.

@@Nofrillsasmr in general?? yes, in 2013 the 500 had 16.7 mil. watching live & in 2023 it barely had 8.1 mil.-- less than half of the 2013 numbers.

The algorithm has blessed me; this was very relaxing and fun to listen to as a life-long fan of NASCAR and motorsports in general.
Some further explanations to help answer some questions/clarify some things from the video:
Firstly, and this just a very small thing: the track is known as Daytona International Speedway
The starting grid of a race is always set where the fastest qualifier starts on the inside of row 1, the 2nd fastest starts on the outside of row 1, 3rd and 4th line up in row two, etc. The Daytona 500 actually has an extra event not seen in any other NASCAR race where the field is split in half based on their qualifying results and each half runs separate 150-mile races called the Duels to determine where they start the actual 500-mile race. The results of Duel 1 determine the inside lane of the starting grid, and Duel 2 sets the outside lane, with the exception of the top 2 qualifiers as they are guaranteed to start on the front row.
While drivers don't have a choice on where they line up for the initial start of a race, there's been a rule added in recent years called the "choose" where when a caution period is about to end, the cars are ordered to drive to either the left or right of an orange arrow painted on the center of the track. If they go to the left of the arrow, they restart the race in the left (inside) lane, and everyone who goes right starts in the outside lane.
For the black flag, IIRC there's a sign just below where the flagman stands that lights up the number of the car being black flagged. Every driver also has direct radio communication with other members of their team throughout the race who can also inform them.
The stages are also a relatively new feature in NASCAR racing which also added the green-checkered flag; its design is like the checkered flag but the black sections are colored green instead. You were mostly right about how stage points work; while a driver who finishes the final stage in 2nd CAN end up scoring more points overall than the person who finished 1st, the 1st place finisher is still declared the winner of the race no matter how many fewer points they have than those behind them. And yes, every point earned in each stage is kept throughout the entire season.
In the event of a rainstorm or something else that causes the red flag to stop the race, NASCAR officials (the referees) can declare the race finished at that point as long as the field has completed at least half the scheduled laps, and the finishing positions are determined by where the cars were when the race was stopped. For example: in 2019 at the 2nd Daytona race that year, Justin Haley gained the lead during a caution caused by a crash; then lightning struck a few miles away from the track as they were preparing for a restart, forcing NASCAR to red flag the race with 33 laps left to run. When it started raining, NASCAR decided to declare the race finished, giving Haley his first win in the Cup series. The last lap they ran before the race was stopped was also the only lap where Haley was in the lead of that race.
Hope this clears some things up, and again I really enjoyed this video. I'll definitely check out more from your channel and I'd love to see another video about NASCAR or just racing in general!

26:40 the rule is basically this.
If you are under yellow and there is no more laps to race (eg, you crossed lap 200), they will do a green white checkered restart. Which means there will be 2 additional laps to the race.
Green flag, everyone go for it
    White flag, last lap
    Checkered flag, you win
This helps avoiding races finishing under yellow, that would prevent cars from racing to the end

  • @KrakenRacing818
    @KrakenRacing818 6 месяцев назад +1

IL do explanation of the flags. The green is go it is super obvious. The yellow is there was a crash, weather or debris and need to slow down into the positions they were in on the track. The red is u need to stop immediately there has been a serious crash or bad weather or the need to stop to do repair work on the track. The black means someone needs to either do a pass through under green which means u have to go through the pits or u need to repair your car for safety reasons. The blue flag means the lead lap cars are coming up to u and they are faster and u need to let them past. The white flag means it is the final lap. I don't need to explain the checkered flag it's really explanatory. I hope that clears some stuff up.

  • @iron1798

The caution flag is flown when their is a wreck or debris of the track. During a caution, laps are still driven. The pace car comes out to the front to control the speed. During a caution you can not try to gain a position in the race but if you are a lap down you are allowed to pass the pace car, just not at a high speed. If a caution is out near the end of the race, it goes into overtime where laps are added. The red flag goes out when it starts to rain. It signals for the vehicles to head to pit road and park in pit lane. Also the drivers know what there supposed to do because they have a crew of spotters telling them for example to go high or low and if there is a flag out. The driver has constant communication during the race with the crew chief who relays information from spotters.

My understanding is if you are black flagged, they will wave the Black Flag from the flag stand as that car is going by... Simultaneously, the official will be notifying the team. So either the spotter or the crew chief will be notifying the driver that they have been black flagged and they will come in.

To clarify the stage points/stages and whatnot, cause it's a weird system Nascar has now most fans don't even like it lol:
Theoretically, it would be possible to win the Daytona 500 and NOT be the total points leader after the race. They CALL it stage 3, but really it's the end of the race, and winning that "stage" gets you 5 playoff points for when they determine playoff ranking.
BUT, If you won and got the 40 points for 1st, but didn't finish in the top 10 at the end of either stage 1 or 2, someone could've for example finished 2nd and gotten the 35, plus maybe won a stage getting 10 bonus points, and then maybe 6th in another stage. getting 5, and be 10 points ahead of you after the race.
We've had a start to a season I believe under this system where someone won the Daytona 500, and yet were 4TH in the points after the race. But, under this system, if you win a race you're automatically guaranteed to be in the Nascar 16-car playoffs (unless 17 different winners. Then there's tiebreakers. Hasn't happened yet though.)
It's all complicated. Used to, Nascar just had a total points system and you raced hard every race to get as many possible and whoever had the most at the end of the season was champion. It should still be that way. Formula 1 does it!

NASCAR is not just 1 race there are 36 points paying races. If you place first in a race you win and those points will be in the points standings which will lock you in the playoffs to contend for a championship. (only 16 cars can be in the playoffs) Stage points also will give you playoff points. If it were to have the race called early and ends, the car that is currently leading will win, not the car who won the previous stage.

hey i honestly love your videos, recently discovered your channel and these really help with just distracting my mind to sleep. i don’t really know how to say this in a nice way i mean it in a completely respectful way. i feel like if you put 30mins more effort into making these videos (like going through and editing it and reading up on the topics just that little bit more you would have 10x the amount of views.

I really appreciate your comment and I take no disrespect. I believe if I overthink it, I'll never post anything. If I really thought about it too much and started trying to edit to make it more streamline and skip mistakes, I would just get in my head and start over again and again. You know what I mean? I try to not pay too much attention to the number of views a video gets and just post what I find interesting in that moment. I actually studied for this one a lot, I knew very little about NASCAR - I think I did semi-ok for newbie. :) Thanks for watching!

I disagree. I like how relatable and human she is. I don't care if her information isn't always 100% accurate or if things are left out. I'm not here to do research, I'm here to relax. Her videos are like casually chatting with a friend. If I want to learn more I'll do research using primary sources.

@@Nofrillsasmr omg i’m sorry i forgot i wrote this. i think this was a very late night thought and i didnt really think it through and wasn’t very fair to. i resonate very much with what you’re saying about thinking too much about everything! the whole process becomes over-complicated at that point it would seem. what reminded me about this was just watching your video right now and you talked about my comment 😂 the best part about your videos is how relatable you are! like someone on here commented. love the videos

31:46 U can win the first 2 stages and get 2nd and you can have more POINTS than the race winner, but you wouldn’t win the race. The 1st place finisher would win the race. Points go towards the championship standings, they’re not points in the sense of like a baseball game.
