Excellent job! This translation seems much more organic, than mine. My guess is you have been living in an english-speaking country for quite a while. Because some parts sound like someone who thinks in english wrote them naturally, only having the general idea in mind, while mine version is a... well... translation)

The translation posted above is perhaps more 'pretty', more rich in nuance, but you managed to capture and pass to the listener the emotion of this simple sailor story of love, duty and loss without any unnecessary whistles and bells. I prefer your version.

Ну да, он старается произносить правильно английские слова, но его выдаёт "Нагасаки", произносит он это слово именно по русски, с ударением на втором слоге, тогда как на английском это слово произносится с ударением на первом, и нажимом на "нага", а "саки" почти проглатывается.
А перевод похожий или приблизительный?

Перевод сделан из более позней версии. В стихах Веры Имбэр было меньше текста и фигурировал не капитан, а юнга по имени Джаго (или Джанго). Имено с Джаго, а не "джигу" танцевала в кабаках девушка из Нагасаки.
