- I’ve had a number of requests in the last month or so asking for an Empire Total War graphics, so I decided why not! I’ve been doing a bit of digging around to see what’s out there and have found a few really easy steps to make it look a lot better than Vanilla.
So in this video I’ll be taking you through 3 really easy steps to making Empire Total War look a lot more modern both in the Campaign map and in naval & land battles, including what in-game settings to use, what mods to use and finally how to add Reshade to the game.

Empire is the oldest TW that still holds well graphically
Absolutely! The only really bad thing about it is the AI, which hopefully an Empire 2 or even Victoria TW would solve :)
darthmod and higher difficulties help with that problem

@@myjourneynelson5145 i have tried but i had some problems with the mod, its buggy for exemple the pirates are at war with everyone except france and the battles seems not balanced to me (units breaking because of 2/3 casualties and musket fire too much ineffective)

You can simply change the vfx memory to -1 and it has the same effect. No need to bother with the longer number. Works with all subsequent Total Wars as well.

Your suspicion might be correct. 536970912 is 2^29 and the largest number. It plus one will overflow to 0.

Coming late to the ETW party - thanks for the video! Reshade has obviously been updated since this was published, and the preset ini file throws some errors (or rather there are some errors on compile, that I assume are old references from the log entries). Nothing that appears critical, but I thought I would check in case there were any Reshade experts out there. Cheers

Do you know how to moddify the value of trade goods. Ivory spices ect. I think increasing the values would be a great was to up the ante of the game at large

I have a huge issue with multiple shaders in ReShade 6.0 failing to load. I have run Directx setup to install any missing files. Is there something else I should be doing? Every time I hit the Home key as directed to select shader options, I get an immediate broken game. Any help would be appreciated. I wanted to reach out on the official ReShade Discord server, but I want to try here first before doing so. You have far more experience running this game with ReShade.
Great video, but just one question. If you download this mod, will it cause problems to play with other mods, such as darth mod or imperial splendour? Do you need to remove it prior to dowloading darthmod or other mods?

i recommend darthmod wholeheartedly. it breathes new life into the game with an actual challenge.

Does this "high definition Graphical Overhaul" also work when you have the Darthmod installed or is it only for the vanilla game itself?

Hi there, great video. I seem to have an issue with my ETW whereby the 'particle effects' swap from 'Ultra' to 'high' when I load a battle. Is there a fix for this?
Not too sure to be honest :/ Might be a setting you can only change on the main menu? or in the config files?

For some reason, while I can get into the user scripts and can highlight lines, it won't let me edit them. Not sure how I can change that.
If I only follow your other two steps will that unlock the "High" and "Very High" in my graphics options? Or make my units look better regardless?
I've heard that it's because of having a low graphics level that your dead disappear from the battlefield after just a few seconds. Is that true?

maybe the user script txt file is set to read only mode, so you cant edit it. right click on the file, click properties and see if the box for read only is checked. If it is, just uncheck the box and hit apply and ok. That should do it

I love the NTW graphics, UI and DMN gameplay, but really want to have the gameplay options like three continents and expandable cities etc from ETW.

One question, will the reshade affect my frames? I'm not sure if it was my phone, but when the reshade settings were on in the video it sure was laggy
My OBS recording was clashing with the game which is why it was laggy in video. Shouldn’t affect your frames bud :)

I don't have data under my tw empire folder? I dont know where to put the mod?
Hey thanks for the tipps. I am a bit confused how or what to install from reshade. You mention to check all of those but only had the first two. Do I need all for your settings? Ah and I need your permission to download your reshade settings. Do they work with the latest reshade 5.8.0 version? Thank for your help and work!
Doesn’t work with the latest reshade but I’ll be making updated reshades soon and yes you need to check it all when installing
@@TheTerminatorGaming ok, is there a way to uninstall de latest version and install the 4.9.1? I found the older version to download but somehow need to uninstall the other but dont know how. Or will u update it soon?
Just delete the file from the Empire folder that Reshade added, that should delete the latest version
Hey man, great video! Surprisingly, i feel like the changes to the text files actually make my graphics worse (i was able to put everything to ultra without issue though). One thing, your presets seem to be locked, i can't seem to download them, as they are not "sharable" with me. Any plans to make it actually visible? Thanks!

Hi the Terminator/ Would you happen to know anything about modding? For example, is it possible for me to create a new model for a fortification for empire TW? Can I create new maps, reskin units, etc? Would you know if this is at all possible and how does one goes about doing that (ie unpacking files, etc). I'm new to modding and your help is appreciated. Not to sound repetitive from other videos but does the graphics mod work with Imperial Splendour?
I’m not 100% sure mate, may want to check it out for yourself. If Imperial Splendour makes graphical improvements then unfortunately the answer is no.

Reshade will work but any of the other mods may or may not be compatible, not sure which you’re talking about though

whenever i start empire 2 on best resolution 2560x1440 the sides are black... and a small menu but the credits are fine...

536870912 = 512MB in bytes. you could raise it more if you want to allow the game more then 512MB of memory.

I have a question about the Terrestria Orbem mod. I downloaded it, extracted it to the Data folder. It's there. But I don't see any changes. I don't see a user script file in appdata that tells the program to use the modded pack file. How do I get it to work? It looks great. Thanks if anyone can help.
you solved? because I also have the same problem
idk if you figured this out yet, but you should be able to either use a preexisting user script file or create one and just add the line to it.

Unfortunately not, they're not compatible. But Imperial Destroyer and Splendour do come with graphical enhancements already. Also give the reshade preset a try :)

I just downloaded V4.0 full release and in the install instructions they actually linked this video so I assume everything should be compatible. Worst case scenario just don’t use the HD mod. I’ll let you know if it works or not :)

Hi mate! Darthmod does indeed already port over some Napoleon graphics, not all of it but a few things. This mod is not compatible with it so if you’re already using Darthmod then you’re all good. But do give Reshade a try :)

Nothing changed after I downloaded terrestria orbem and extracted it to the data file of Empire Total War. I restarted the pc but still nothibg changed

Unfortunately not the mods. But Darthmod already comes with graphical enhancements. Also definitely still use reshade :)
Hey. Where do I find the appdata to change my graphics
When you go to your file explorer, erase what is currently in the file path "C:/Users/ ..." and replace it with %appdata% - then press enter and voila

Hi mate! I haven’t tested it with Darthmod as I believe some of it (not all) already comes with Darthmod but you should try it anyway! If it doesnt work you can just delete the HD textures file from your data folder :)

The reshade preset is but not the mods as Darthmod already ports over some graphical enhancements

Where Reshade is installed in steamapps common then Empire :)
Video is elite if you code, takes about an hour plus with help if you dont.

Shared :) and yep Reshade works with any mods, but the mods I show here aren't compatible with things like Darthmod
