The original Metal Gear, designed by Hideo Kojima, released in 1987, and is one of the first full-fledged stealth action games. It changed the landscape of the industry by inspiring countless game developers and new franchises, including Splinter Cell and Thief, and developing into a juggernaut series in its own right. How much of that DNA is present in this very first entry, and what were the growing pains it went through?
"A Metal Gear Retrospective" is a series in which I play through each Metal Gear game chronologically, and analyze its place in the series.

Don't panic! The CoD Zombies series is still coming, this isn't taking over! I just wanted to try out something different based on another game series I love. Thanks for watching, and if you're only here for Zombies, don't worry, the Gorod Krovi video is coming out next :)
I love seeing you branch out! Your CoD Zombies series is fantastic, but beyond the series itself you have a very strong analytical take that keeps me coming back, no matter the topic.
EDIT: Something I forgot to mention as well, but your scripting on all of these videos is extremely strong. You blend topics together very smoothly, you don't repeat yourself unnecessarily, and your videos always have a clear thesis statement. Really strong work!
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that! I do put (probably way too much) work into editing the scripts to flow and be more than just a list of bullet points, so I'm glad that comes across :) Thanks so much!
This is great! Sad to see it get so few views, but I hope you can still branch out into other games you love, while continuing with COD Zombies. Zombies brought me here, and I love it and how you do those videos, but I'm interested to see what else you want to explore, too.
I love this video! It takes a lot of balls to make a video outside your normal viewership. Keep up the great work, I hope more people get to see this.
im commenting this because i love your content and want you to do better, but.... this video's thumbnail is atrocious and prob why this didnt do well.
I wasn't expecting the new series to be mgs but I'm so very glad it is. Mgs video essays are how I got into retrospectives at all
A suprise to be sure, but a welcome one
I used to play metal gear 2 with my dad when i was little. This series is one of the best game series out there. Thanks for covering one of the games man
I have never played an MGS game and only know what is out in the common internet zeitgeist.
I subscribed for Cod Zombies but still thoroughly enjoyed this video and your breakdown. I wouldn’t mind seeing this for other games.
This was a great watch! As someone who only subscribed for COD Zombies, I’m definitely looking forward to the next vid in this series
Rip Big Boss/Venom Snake, you were tough but you were no match for my remote control missiles and ability to hide behind a single wall of cover.
It’s a shame that the algorithm won’t promote this because there’s only so many unique takes you can have about cod zombies
Great video man. I know it’s rough making a video in a new genre when you’ve got a dedicated fanbase, but if you keep working at it while improving your craft, soon you’ll be able to make whatever content you want and people will still watch it
Love the new content type!! Your narration and analysis are honestly just on point and I think its a great addition!!
Would love to see more content like this
Really well-done video. I hope we get other non-zombies videos in the future.
Truthfully, I'm just happy to have another video. I always look forward to anything you work on!
As if this channel couldn’t get any better
youtube did you dirty. i usually watch all your videos as you post them and i even saw your community post and but not your video. i had to click on your account and it still wasn't displayed on it, i had click on all your upload to find this. awesome work nonetheless
Yooooo THIS is what you were cooking up! Fucking awesome 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is really good! It explains a lot about the game and your narration is impeccable! I'd be happy to hear you talk about any game!
Whitecliff another banger brother. As your cod videos flow and mesh so well, this acheived the same with a completely different genre of gaming. Absolutely amazing video please make more!
When world needed him most, WCG comes in clutch with a video for lunch, great one as always!
I've been loving metal gear again recently and I really love your video style looking at it.
I really enjoyed your map retrospectives and felt that you had what it took to really make some quality content about other subjects and you proved me absolutely correct. Keep it up man your doing great :)
Very good video! I loved this.
Great vid! Glad to see you departing a little from the zombies universe. Keep it up!
sick shit dude. i like your COD videos a lot and was hoping to see the same style but on a new topic. surprised this video didnt pop up in my feed, only now just found it after scrolling your channel again. youtube algorithm wack haha keep it up boss man
