- My grandad thinks my family comes from Ireland, but he also thinks we're from Scotland. I asked him how far he could trace back our family tree and he said the '30s... "1830s?" I asked. "1930s" he confirmed. (Dude was born in 1931). Safe to say, this conversation left both of us none the wiser.
Nonetheless, I've had a soft spot for this Irish folk song ever since I was a child. Perhaps my favourite of all time. It's more commonly heard in 4/4 but I found 6/8 helped it flow better on the piano.

You brought out the fact that this traditional Irish song is a love song . You brought back that element to it .
Thanks so much, SP! You're absolutely right about it being a love song - I think that's sometimes overlooked, though I guess has appeared in many forms over the years.
Awesome arrangement Luke. Love the slow poignant introduction and then the gorgeous build up only to come to a restful finish. You've outdone your self again! Always a great pleasure to listen to your music, Ros😊
Thank you, dear Ros!
Oh this one brings back memories. I had a coworker in 1993 who hailed from County Down, and she said her dad would always sing this to her. She taught me and we would belt it out (way off key in my case) when we had a few beers. Good times ❤
Haha - that's a great memory, Chris!
Love the conversation with your grandad (and a wonderful piano piece!) - had a similar thing with my great-granny who said we're descended from Vikings because she had a certain kind of arthritis that was apparently known as the 'Viking claw' 😂
Haha - well, she could be right! Better keep on your good side, Abi 😅
@@LukeFaulkner Hahaha 😂
Always a pleasure to listen to your work Luke. This one brings joy to my ears.
Thanks so much, Michael! Happy New Year :)
Very beautiful ❤
Very nice!
I love it, Luke. Your music is beautiful as always. Thank you!
A true craftsman well done Luke , Totally unique
Thank you so much!
A great cover of this folk song, it sounds absolutely wonderful! I would love to hear you play some of Maurice Ravel's works in the future as well---just throwing it out there :)
I love Ravel's works! I've played a few in the past but think Michelangeli's Gaspard can't be surpassed.
@@LukeFaulkner If you have recordings, please upload, you interpret pieces so well! Michelangeli's Gaspard is truly incredible, but I think I'm biased towards Miroirs: III. Une barque sur l'océan
Lovely! 🔥🌹
👏
Great arrangement !
Oh, my . . . you've breathed new life into this piece, making it worthy of a concert hall! I'll never listen to it the same way again. Simply stunning.
Aww - thank you so much, Heather! Hopefully I'll be able to play it in concert someday :)
This is also the tune to the Celtic hymn, I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say, which happens to be one of my favorites! So beautiful!
It's one of my favourites too!
Lovely Luke. Thank you and happy holidays ☺️ 🎄❤️
Aww - thank you! Hope you had a great Christmas/New Year 🥰
This is so lovely! I know the tune from the hymn “I heard the voice of Jesus say” / Vaughan Williams “Dives and Lazarus”; you’ve given it new life in your arrangement here.
Thanks so much, Bethany! It's one of my favourite hymn tunes, and the Vaughan Williams variations are stunning :)
This is one of my all time favourite songs, so happy you played it Luke. And so beautifully too! Thank you for this piece ♥
Aww - thank you, Finfy!
A delight to listen to, from start to finish! Thank you for sharing 😌🎶
Thanks so much, Haley!
What a lovely arrangement. Absolutely love it.
Aww - thank you, Laura! I had a lot of fun putting it together.
I used to hear this a lot on spotify, suddenly it became unavailable, but ask me if I mind to come here and listen to it over and over again hahaha. Thanks as usual Luke.
Thanks so much, Guillermo!
I thoroughly enjoy everything you share with us, but this might be my favorite series yet! Really love the way you take these wonderful tunes and dress them up a bit. Creative, but never over the top. As someone else said, magical!
Thank you so much, Abigail! This one was particularly fun to put together.
I'm loving these folk pieces, Luke! Just magical ✨
Thank you so much, dear Jennifer! 🥰
I absolutely adore Irish folk music. Got to experience it last summer first hand, incredible! You put a nice spin on this classic!
Thanks so much, Deanna! Sounds like you had a great summer :)
Fascinating and soulful! ❤
Wow. Nice. ✨
The story about your Grandpa gave me a good chuckle. Beautiful song too 👏
Haha - thank you!
