The loss of your neighbor’s life is so heart breaking and I can tell videos like this are hard for you to make. I admire the work you are doing to support your town. I am glad to see the orphan duckling seems to be accepted by Jerk 🦆
Jerk Duck is such a great mother! I’m so glad to see that she seems to have accepted the duckling hatched inside as her own, as well as adopted Chicken the (previously) lone duckling! I can’t wait to watch them grow up together on the farm :)

My heart just breaks for Dylan's family. He was just doing what we all do in situations like that. Wrong place, wrong time. I can't imagine what his wife is going through with two young children. On the farm side, I'm glad you saved both those babies, and that everyone on the farm faired well.
What a terrible night she would have had when he didn't come home....

Thank you for covering the on going hardships in Vermont. If it wasn't for you we wouldn't even know how bad it was there. On a brighter note it looks like the larger duckling has migrated to it's own kind and is hanging out with it's fellow ducklings.

During the winter of 1991/1992 (and for many years prior) I was living in South Royalton Vt. As the ice broke up on the river and spring thaw was in roaring creek mode we had what they called then a "storm of the Century". Roads washed out, houses flooded, power was out all over. The ice on the river pushed up the banks of the river and both damaged houses and roads above while destroying some others. It even took out the railroad bridge across the river which had been through countless storms and ice jams over the years. When your friend was taking about the culverts needing to be bigger and better reinforced to withstand the force and handle the flow of these storms, 8t made me think back to this storm. Everyone was saying the same things then about size and strength of culverts and runoff ditches. There's so much past history to pull knowledge from but cheaper and faster seems to be the choice repeatedly chosen over the past 30 to 40 years and each year it gets a little bit worse. After WW2 when the Army Corp of Engineers were going around the country building bridges, dams, culverts and water ways they were built so well that the majority are still working today in rural areas of the country. I remember one that was big enough for me to walk through it and I thought it was overkill for the size of the little creek that ran through it. Then came one of these storms and roads and homes were being washed away, but we were not because of this culvert channeling the enormous amount of water that filled the culvert almost to the top. They know how to build them and how big they need to be so why are the local governments not doing it?

I was hoping you'd grab the other 2 eggs in the clutch out in the field; they may have been hours or days away from hatching. It was so nice to see chicken the duck playing with the new hatchlings. I am donating again today, seeing what happened. You're a great man, Morgan.
I was thinking that too. That the other eggs hadn't started hatching yet, didn't mean that they couldn't be viable.
Things like these infuriate me. As a farmer, he should know these things already 😢
The Happy Cow Mobile needs to be built on a metal frame. Welding would be fun to learn and useful in other projects in the future.❤

He has it on a metal boat frame, unless yo mean the wood should all be metal and welded to the boat frame.

A neighbor or Alfred may already have a welder. Since he can tow it anyway, he could use bigger lumber if he wants. Cows are heavy. They need to rub against the trailer. He could use 6x6 for uprights and go horizontal with 4x4 and do proper woodwork notches to join them. This would be heavy & sturdy enough to stand up to the cows. If he tries to use screw-type fasteners, even heavy lumber and big fasteners can fall apart because the structure leverages against itself. If it's weatherproof lumber, or if he wants to put linseed oil every so often, it could last a decade or more.
@@MrsTigercat Not really, lumber isn't light weight. Pipe can be no heavier since they are hollow.

I was about 11 years old living in Gulfport, Mississippi during hurricane Katrina. Lived close enough to the beach that I could walk there. We were so lucky that our house was just behind an elevated train track that protected the houses on our street. We lost the chimney, a couple of trees, and a trampoline. So lucky to still have a home. But leaving our street, it was devestation like this everywhere. That place has never been the same since. It's so shocking to see places you know so well be destroyed overnight. My heart is with all of those affected by this flood.

Bless you and yours and bless your farm Mr. Morgan. Also I’m hearing impaired so I rely heavily on captioning to be able to enjoy your videos but I just wanted to say that whenever you feature your ducks and they’re doing their quacking the captioning always reads “laughter” it’s hilarious.
It's always worse at night, because you cannot see the entire scope of what is happenening.
I am very concerned of the weather that's been occurring the last 2 years in this area where I grew up. The damage in South Peacham was especially bad two weeks ago with houses destroyed and condemned and the horrible loss of a neighbour . I haven't heard from my relatives there so don't know how they fared. Hope all's well with them...

Cow fun contraption tip: use an aluminium structure, and more importantly, *a water filled container for weight/stability* . Just let it empty when you want to move it.
That's the only way to get around the weight/strength contradiction.
Very nice call on putting the pipping duck into the incubator, and jerk duck and the little one in the secondary shelter.
Very Manly calls in reserving a hotel stay for the wife and ensuring she doesn't have to drive needlessly on roads that are less than reliable in the dark. Very good forward thinking on putting the battery backup in the incubator room and powering those devices off the grid power. Good thinking Gold.
Describing the devastation is not enough, so thank you to Morgan for all the video that was shown. At this time, I cannot afford to donate more than I already have, but the rebuilding of the area will take time. Please have additional fundraisers in August and September, I hope to be able to participate by then. Admittedly a tiny bit of brightness, but seeing that duckling emerge from the incubator was like seeing hope arise. While the mom may be "jerkduck", she is a survivor and will be a good mom.
Maybe it's not a good idea to do any development / extension of your farm in the woods near the southern brook. Because of this flood you now know where and how far the water will flow. Here in the Netherlands we learned the hard way to give rivers / water space instead of trying to contain it.
I watched part of the Livestream fundraiser & told him about how Imma Survivor Sanctuary saved their animals by evacuating a couple months ago since they thankfully new it was going to keep happening & bought a second property.
But also how even though it was flooded the berm they'd originally built to protect the animals after the hurricane Harvey was still above the water line.
So Morgan talked about how their taking into consideration where to build, how to build, what to build like berms & even if they'd have to evacuate animals.
Unfortunately though I don't think he can evacuate more than the cats/dogs.
But I think he's thinking about things like a berm for the cattle/pigs.
The geese/ducks/chickens weren't evacuated since they'd be fine flying up & floating.
But they even evacuated the pigs a big tom turkey & the expensive pet chickens.
The Denman Homestead actually ended up on Dodo for saving baby goats in a canoe. They're part of the extended family that's started a channel & we're saving Paw Paws goats by moving them higher up.
Hopefully Morgan's farm won't keep flooding. But unfortunately Imma Survivor Sanctuary will keep flooding due to new nearby developments sending water into the nearby river. It's why Lester bought a second property called Longhorn Lester's. The pigs actually aren't going back because of how hard it was to move them. But they have so much more to do & forage at the new property.
Anyway Morgans place doesn't seem to be quite as bad at flooding & hopefully Peacham will insist on building things to mitigate any flooding needed.
Morgan should definitely make plans for even worse flooding & then build things accordingly. So the animals can easily survive.
A little water doesn't bother cattle because Paw Paws cows & stubborn Donkey Ivan were back into standing water the next day.
The chickens could be moved into the barn for safety & so could the other birds. If they choose to stay there anyway.
I'd put the dogs in the barn with the animals since they'd freak out over leaving their charges. Probably the barn cats too since I'm pretty sure they'd all be safe in that high barn.
Lil barn cat could stay or go with Alison.
Definitely also get a boat/canoe/kayak just in case for Morgan to get out.
But with the barns being safer he'd probably stay with the animals.

You have such a big heart Morgan! When I was a young single mom of four actually had five but youngest doesn't recall tornadoes and damage etc as we moved to upstate NY when she was three...but I would take the kids to the store hand each one a basket and fill it up for a child of their own age and ready a care package for that child and I would also do a family if five to match our little family ..I tried to include everything for a mom that she would need in her bathroom and laundry room etc and then we would put in some sweets and ramen noodles things that one could prepare for fast meal. Now mind you I was a single mom one income ..where the money came from was literally my paycheck and money we as a family saved for fireworks or a little family fund nite at drive-in. My kids were included in this project they didn't care it meant less for them. My kids were awesome ! All of them still are to this day!! And that is a lesson they carry on as well! I also know the feeling of losing neighbors storms that narrowed our area in Kansas down. Do I practice this still ..yes it is something my present day hubby who I didn't have then ...we do this at Xmas now also ..he's like a kids filling the cart when it comes to Xmas time!! Do we deliver at any of these yes we do!! We also pick one family we know and help them a Xmas time they never know until the min we make the drop! And to see those faces is irreplaceable! Perhaps something like that would help you and your big heart heal a little right now!😊😊❤❤❤

I caught parts of the fundraiser...Good job one and all! It will take a long time to recover from this. The force of nature is so amazing in so many ways...but life goes on as you symbolized with putting the duckling into the pen. Well done Sir!

Also, thanks for showing what happened with the incubated duckling, with everything going on after the flood I was scared you wouldn't include such a small thing. Glad Jerk Duck was also broody enough to not only take her babies but it looks like Chicken the duckling found a new mamma. I personally would have taken the whole nest of eggs, considering how long she had been sitting on them and it looks like you caught her right as the hatch was starting but it looks like your incubators were pretty full too. Hope you hatch a good number of chicks this time round.

Sadly, the one thing I have learned is, the first wave might be hard but any rain after that can massively compound the problems, so stay dry and strong.

Water does move along the path of least resistance and two years in a row does not make the once every 100 year event nomenclature. You've mentioned swales et al. But do review where your excess water flowed and consider some ditches. You've got the "proper ditch" which is more narrow and deep. Then there is the old school "farmer's ditch" which is a tractor bucket's width, not particularly deep, and lined with grass/ weeds it just gives the water an easy path to pick.

Thank you for sharing as difficult as it may be. When I awoke that next morning hearing the news of the flooding up there I was definitely pretty heart broken to hear you all were hit so hard. As a former Danville resident you could say it hit close to home. Absolutely tragic to hear about Dylan and I sent along a donation to help his family. Vermonters look after their own so I'm sure everyone will be well taken care of. Good luck on your farming endeavors.

My heart breaks for your community! It reminds me of a particular summer in Ohio around 1978 when it would just have one flood after another. My family was like 2 feet higher than the rest of the development so I had survivor grief. Just 2 feet and the path of the water made all the difference. You are doing the right thing for your community and I'm so sorry for those who lost their lives leaving young families behind.
I'm so sorry about your neighbor. I have friends in Bethel, they had horrific damage last year. These floods are devastating and unprecedented in recent history.

Morgan, have you reconsidered directing your stream towards the pond? Seems like that could increase risk for your farm, but I truly can't tell. So glad the fundraiser did so well! Please keep us posted on the recovery efforts there.
Sadly these kinds of storms and flooding will and are becoming more and more frequent. What was once a 100 year storm will now be a 10 year storm. Really sobering

So you had a once in a 100 year flood last year and another one this year, climate change is wrecking here in Oregon too with fires. But Canada though has a huge amount of fires all over the country!
OWCH. We got some rain here but nothing like that. That's a goshawful mess, and then for someone to die in it...yeeek. I'm just glad you rescued the duckings this time. The new one is Waterworld, Swampy, Rainbird or some such.
I would have done the same thing with the duck and duckling.. we actually have to move the ducklings from the pond once they hatch out naturally because I've learned over time the ducklings drown until they are larger if we dont. They have about a four week period with moms in a stall until large enough to return to the pond. Scary scary flooding.. Sending prayers for you and your community just horrific flooding.
You might wanna fill them abbey holes. My dog broke his leg right above the knee, and then wouldn't heal, so we had to cut it off...all because he fell into one of his own holes.

😀👍To patch the hoop coop there is this extremely sticky clear Crash Wrap they use it at junkyards and auto auctions to seal up broken windows and missing hoods on cars to keep the rain out it’s some extremely sticky stuff it sticks on dirty cars no cleaning and it’s hard to remove but it will stick and keep the rain out. Btw i would clean the surface with rubbing alcohol for the more permanent fix but it is permanent
how much rain did the area get to create a flood that fast? That is crazy. so many across the nation have suffered from floods, wildfires, hurricains and tornados. just in the past couple years most states have had an emergency calling for Federal funding.
