Opening and Closing a Tenkara Rod to Avoid Breaks

  • This demonstrates how to properly extend and collapse a tenkara rod so that you don't break it in the process , which many new to the method do (so don't worry 😉). Also, please ignore that my fly- not pattern but pants, is down...I'm human and obviously a mess, lol.

    I fish from my kayak in Tampa area and am exploring fly/ tenkara options for sight-fishing redfish. I’m considering Tenkara but the length of the kyojin has me second guessing whether it would be practical in comparison to a 7.5 ft or 9 ft traditional 8wt setup. Do you know of any customers that have had success in a similar setup to a kayak?

      We have quite a few customers in the Texas, Panhandle area as well the Carolinas that use our rods for redfish - and even from a kayak - with great success. We usually recommend the Taka for this type of fishing, but the Kyojin and the Suimenka should also be considered. This might help you:
