Coyote Wagon - The Quest to find a replacement 1963 Galaxie Wagon Tailgate

- In this episode I search and find a replacement tailgate for my new wagon! I find a couple good looking ones. One is a shell and one is complete but clearly has a lot of “Dirt” inside.
I purchase it and clean it out then go back for the stripped down shell.
No parts but at least no Poo 💩

Ford 5.0L Coyote Engine
The Coyote is a 5.0 liter, naturally aspirated V8 engine from Ford Motor used to power sports cars like the Ford Mustang and pickup trucks like the Ford F-150. Featuring a dual overhead cam (DOHC) design, in a V configuration, the Ford Coyote architecture has been part of the Ford Modular family since 2011. The engine has seen some revisions since then, the most recent being in 2018.
This engine was first engineered for the Mustang GT so it could compete with the GM 6.2L LS3 engine used in the Chevrolet Camaro at the time. The Coyote had to remain the same size as the outgoing 4.6-liter V8. It was also Ford’s first implementation of its Twin independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT) technology on a V8 engine, a feature which considerably improves fuel economy and power delivery all while reducing emissions.

Archaeological dig with Lucky 👍
Lucky, thank you for signing my hat at the Harrahs 5150 car show.
Two thumbs up on this Galaxy wagon.. bad ass car.
Nice meeting you!!! Thanks for your support 👊🏻🏁
26:32 it doesn’t seem dumb when people ask about the ride it’s car talk. You’re one of many people across the country supporting the community. Don’t put yourself down dude.
Only Lucky would take a Lowell light stand, mod it, and give a reference name to a Steely Dan tune……
Morning sorry I missed it. My first spring break to Daytona was in my dad’s Plymouth wagon. Got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic entering Virginia (I was driving from NYC). Was able to get gas money by selling beer and soda out of the tailgate 😅 Great memories. They should bring back wagons 😮
All good
That wagon is a work of art. I really like your channel. There is no loud music, just honest work minus the BS that is on so many other channels. Thanks Lucky.
Thanks 👍
There isn't any music, but there is still that beep that happens every few minutes.
@@wackowacko8931 That's how Lucky knows his fries are done.
@@luckysgarageshow - you are strangely calming to watch as well. The zen garden of automotive work, if you will. I don't know how you do the work without swearing like a sailor, but here we are... fine swear words are my PB Blaster at times...
Some valve grinding compound on your tip of screwdriver will give you grip with tight screws too👍👍👍
The hand truck in front of the Coronal is so Silence of the lambs.
Good look.
Dude!!! Great video!!! that seems to be the way with cars buy 3 to make one!!! Somebody did a hell of a job painting your portrait!!!
!lol!!!✌️
Nice score on the tailgate! You have NO IDEA how good you have it in California (as far as cars go). Here in the rust belt, there would probably only be glass left of that car!
I pulled about 100 lbs of dirt out of my Wagons tailgate yesterday!
Lucky that's awsome that you found a tailgate.
In the day, my father found a Ford wagon that had a air deflector that brought air down from the roof, across the rear glass and tailgate. He adapted it to our Polara wagon. After that, no exhaust fumes with window up or down.
That tail gate looks like it was og to the car! The patina is a perfect match!
OMG how have I never put the Colonel and Lucky connection together before!! High -larious.
I saw it and laughed too!. Long lost brothers!
I just canceled my MT sub due to Discovery's big price increase. I'll miss some of the content (RK, RK+, Alex T, Cotten, Dirt EvD, etc), but as long as you and some of the MT indy operators keep at it on YT, I'll stick with you. Carry on.
Same!
Hello lucky, always a fan of yours..from overhaulin, magnaflow, etc. Old school gear head myself..what i enjoy the most about yourself, Freiburger, duluch are the three of you are old school gear heads who make it work 😊..thanks for the knowledge and continuation of your association to the automotive industry 😀.
Thanks for watching 8:44 8:46
Great video lucky she’s coming along 👍
Thanks 👍
Also…
They say, being lucky is not hard work.
I say working hard is being Lucky!
Strong work!
Funny to see your station wagon. I was just telling my son I think SUV’s/crossovers are today’s station wagons. You and I grew up with them but unless you buy a Volvo sw or a dodge magnum sw’s don’t exist and people do miss them. I always liked station wagons Dad always had one. One of my favorite brands were the ramblers. We had chevy’s. Nice video - thanks
Right on!
Great wagon update. You got a lot done on her today. Thanks Lucky ✌️
Thanks 👍
I discovered Tony's channel, it was great to see him making them. He sure enjoyed working with you and the others and you two were great together. Just finding a matching tailgate for any wagon is amazing, big score on that and two to boot
I really miss the wagons I had many years ago. I had a 67 Impala wagon 396 I drove for a year then put the motor in my 67 Chevelle. Then I had a rust free 63 Chevy II that I got for $50. at a junkyard did a few minor repairs drove it from Detroit to Daytona and all over the east coast . Then took it apart to build a 2 door nova that I never finished. They were cool back then but I didn't see it. You build great cars. Keep burning rubber!!
Sleeperdude is into these cars!
the wagon is looking good Lucky , thanks for sharing
You bet
That's your first video that I could smell through the screen!
Good morning!
the tank installation is fairly good enough, maybe just add one or two straps underneath the tank bolted to the floor, to make it xtra-bulletproof.
Very nice Wagon!
37:58 that weather stripping should keep out the fumes and seam sealer nice 👍🏻
when restoring my 68 tempest wagon i used a HF tranny jack. works perfect for installing tailgates and doors solo. Pad the it and in the v groove the bottom of the doors locate well and use a ratchet strap with padding. Helps to align doors one man job.
Hi Lucky, the jack up flat bed trolleys are brilliant for solo workers and they make a great extra mobile work bench too👍
Thanks for the tip!
You're messing up your country outback road there 😂, looking quite good after that rinse down👍
I completely disassembled an old '63 wagon Ford wagon that my dad gave to me. I learned about how cars were put together. I think I was about 12 or 13. Great educational project. I'm '62 now and watching this thing come apart is a like a trip down memory lane. Great times.
Right on
'How long have you had a dog?'
'I don't have a dog.' 🤣💀
My wife loves y'all wagon. Guess I better start shopping. Thank y'all for sharing.
Please do!
sweet wagon!!! love watching it evolve 🍻🍻
Thanks 👍
Good shape for the shape it's in 😊
Love what you do and your attitude doing it! Also that you get to hang out with Alex Taylor you lucky dog (see what i did there...Lucky). Could i suggest a wireless mic as i would like to hear what your saying all the time.
Awesome video Lucky! That is such a cool wagon! Im used to watching you on HRG, but very cool seeing you doing your own stuff
That guy that does Barn Finds for Hagerty, he would know. He is a nut about 60s Ford Wagons. That place where he got that 61 Ford Wagon out of a boneyard in Texas, I bet they have a good one.
Lucky, you started bidding at $100 then bid yourself up to $250. You are a shrewd negotiator--in the opposite direction. 😉
It’s not always about getting the best deal.
Sometimes you just gotta pay whatcha owe 👊
@@luckysgarageshow Good point. 🙂
I like the gas tank. Mustang tanks are cheap and easy to find, and readily available set up for EFI. I'm not a fan of putting a filler inside the car. Gasoline is a little like anti-seize. A drop or two in the trunk and the whole car ends up smelling like gas. Should be able to run it to the fender without a lot of trouble.
The car is looking good 👍👍
Thanks for showing Sticks McGann close up. I realized I have four of his bothers in the basement. Those are light stands from a Lowel portable lighting kit for video production. 🤓
That taillight looks different from what I remember. Mine has chrome crossbars centered on the reverse light. Ours was a Country Squire, so maybe that's the difference?
Ok, can’t imagine why you were getting fumes😏
I'd love to have a 60s wagon.
Half the fun of cars is the hunt for parts. It’s a problem😂
This should've come with a Warning, lol.
You don’t think the giant hole under the tank could be some of your problem.
Swapping a fairmont. Good times
An involved tailgate job. Aged parts / fasteners, etc,, not moving like new parts. (Takes more time). Impressive repair determination.
Nuts! I've been kidding myself that I came up with Garage Mahal. Yeah, that and the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
What are the odds that I’d see two videos on Galaxie wagon tailgates in one weekend? Sleeperdude just did his 64 😂
I was thinking the same thing, Josh’ was pretty rough but yielded a lot of great parts.
It’s funny that you and sleeper dude just did the same video about 63 galaxy Wagon Tailgates
Garage Mahal, a tailgate, and a new friend. 250 was a good deal. especially for one you can use. Be well.
You gotta tell Tony A, with the pizza and all your RUclips'n buddies from roadkill to shout out about Lucky's Garage........ 4, 13 cards, with black cats in the center for your merch.. your welcome.
The later wagons with the electric tailgate windows we always called them fart ejectors. the only way to get some fresh air back there when your older brother cut a stinky one.
I definitely think there’s a chance for an weight reduction improvement on et.
You should try some of Derecks from VGG shine juice on the Galaxie.
All the station wagons had trouble with carbon monoxide intrusion (and especially the 9 passenger versions) at the tailgate. If you remember, some of the late 60s-early 70s even used spoilers to redirect air to wash over the tailgate to mitigate it. The GM ones used a one piece spoiler across the top, while some of the Fords used spoilers on either side of the tailgate on the D pillars. You pretty much have to plug up all the holes in the back and fix all the weatherstripping, otherwise it will still gas you out to a certain extent.
My dad's 1956 Country Sedan had the same issue. When we built it we ran the dual exhausts straight out the back under the bumper. Later we had them rerouted to kick out the sides behind the rear axle. I think this was how the factory did the station wagons and we suspect that might have been why.
Love the gas tank modification. I realize the Mustang tank is easy to find new but a 70 Torino tank may be a better fit. If you change it up in the future, you may want to look into this. Can't wait to see what's next on the wagon!
Thank you!
Having just read through the fine print of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees it's apparent that Sticks McGann has a case for extra remuneration due to the Health and Safety risks of working by rust, You might also want to check his records for the tetanis shot.😄
I bet most of the fumes were coming up around that fuel tank!?!
Like the channel too!
Hello , Sleeperdude RUclips channel
He is also a falcon fan I think a few wagons 1962 , 63, 62, maybe he has lots of 1960’s ford stuff
Not saying for sale for him
Good morning Lucky I hope I’ll be able to get up this early 😂😂!!
👍👍👍!
Great video lucky 👍
Thanks 👍
Yo lucky its looks
I think you should have worn a hazmat suit, thick rubber gloves, face shield and rubber boots.
Have you seen sleeper dude channel. He did the front floor in a 63 wagon.
I think they call that organic lucky...
I like that!
You need a glass rack.
😂😂😂 sure exhaust was definitely coming through a rusty tailgate not the huge hole in the floor
Hey Lucky, I have a TV/filming offer for you guys.
I hope Sleeperdude is watching this... maybe you could help him find some parts for his and he could help you find some for yours
@sleeperdude88
Man, it hurts me looking at you camming out those screws with that viscious drill driver. Haven't you heard of starting with an impact driver? (the one you hit with a hammer) a little heat is your friend here most times too
They’re not rusted or stuck.
Just at a bad angle. Why would I use heat for this.
I really need to find an old wagon .6=8.
Do you still have the 66 Plymouth Fury Roadmaster ? Or has it moved on ?
Love this ford wagon.
Ill be doing the same repair on my 62 country squire wagon, yea me. If Lucky or anyone is reading this ,Im looking for a pair of hood hinges for my ford 62 country squire wagon. any help would be greatly appreciated
Glad the smellivision isnt working on this one
Is that dirt from BakersField?
Wouldn't a custom non round air tank be easyer than hacking out more body?
Yes. Probably 😅
Almost looks like you’re in the super street garage after looking at the logo on the wall. I’m taking it that show is not coming back from the looks of it. hoping that’s not another casualty of the wonderful discovery network. They have ruined motortrend. Cut so many good shows.
get the mouse sucker 4000 out
that's a sh!@y tailgate!!!
Another great video Lucky. Thanks for letting us spend some time wrenching on the ol galaxy girl. She’s looking good! Colonel Sanders photo bombing your video was cool too!!!
