i think the kremlin chime is far more louder than big ben's.... btw.. how do they iluminate (light) the clock at night to keep it bright and readable?? i'm sure not like big ben (using lamp from inside)
The lights are outside of the dial and they illuminate a area covering the dial. There are no lights behind the dial (and even if there were, it would be impossible to illuminate the light since the dial is not translucent.
As for the volume of the chime, london is filled with trafic to the brim, as much as I'm aware the red square has no traffic allowed, so the bells are heard better
The melody was originally supposed to be The Internationale, but it somehow malfunctioned and became the present melody, which I believe is called the Malinovsky Chime. BTW, Ben Ben is a much larger bell than this hour bell.
I think they did something (I don't know what exactly) but it now chimes the Russian national anthem (the full version, not a small part of it like it did before) at 12:00 and 6:00
the song was actually the soviet anthem, but there was not enough steel to pronounce the bells, causing them to just give up, later producing this beauty, the Internationale did formerly play until 1990
