If you have done alot of your map, without putting the light_environment on your map, you can easily fix this: 1. Copy everything from your map. 2. Open a new map and paste your stuff there. 3. Put the light_environment on the new map, before starting everything new. Done. I don't know for sure if this works, but I think it does.

Thanks for the tutorial. you think it'd be possible to get a sort of time change effect for a map for CS:S or GMOD or something. Like the map start during day, and the lighting slowly changes from day to night, and a full day would take say, 30 minutes. Would that be possible do you think?
3kliksphilip I have an issue in my map where all my walls are black, but the props are fine. Its weird because i never touched my light enviroment ever since i first started to make my map. The issue came out of nowhere while i was adding props to my map. plz help :D

My problem is: My maps are so bright there is no shadow and looks awfull like 0:03 ı added "light_enviroment" changed settings like what did u said but didn't worked. its still bright :( !
Don't be afraid of changing the properties of light environment to see what happening. ... to see what happening? To happens... Wha'? To see what happens! lol'd
@kallesbaksatt If you're mapping for half-life 2, then you'll spawn without the HEV suit. If you type "impulse 101" in your console (cheats must be enabled) Then you will get everything, including the flashlight. Alternatively, you could add an HEV suit to the map.

There's a range of minmum and maximum units the light will extend to, and i remember like you could hit button or hit one of the buttns to toggle the visibility of the light's range, a circle, and for example hold a button like s or something, drag the mouse to expand the distance that the light goes or make it go not as far. Like the nodraw button makes nowdraws tex's appear, this one is for lights, but been to long. i forgot. ty
i have been hitting the dreaed Alloc bloc full error. Iknow scale up textures seem to fix it . So if get new textures with big size say 256-512 then i will not have scale textures up so much. Is that going to help any ideas
Hey Philip, I just wanted to let you know, when I tried placing an env_fire entity, it gave me this odd sprite. It was a picture of you giving a thumbs up, with text under it reading, "obsolete". I've been laughing on my floor for about 10 minutes now.
Just use "light". And then select the brightness color and intensity, and the brightness color HDR if you want (optional). The more darker is the color, the more dark will be the light ambience in game. Then place the light wherever you want. :)
@Johanop Got it right now thanks but now when i extend the map i got alot of warnings when i compiled it, that says Warning: Node with unbounded volume. and when i start the map the new room that i created isnt there
you say it doesnt matter where you play the light_enviroment, but after that you say it does, because the entity points where you have your pitch yaw roll set

Reason is I'm trying to delete all the lights on this map to make a cinematic in sfm. And for some reason even with all the lights off, the map is still bright homogenously, I'm wondering if there's a speical type of light that is lighting up the entire level or if there's some lights with ridicuous amount of range.
It looks like I have a shadow in all the map, but there is a small sphere where I can see things (when any light source added). And I have this problem only on 1 map- I do exactly the same on small test maps and I have normal light.

@IPlayInBeastMode A monitor can only support up to a certain amount of pixels. For example, my monitor is 1680 x 1050, which means it doesn't support 1080p because the resolution isn't high enough, and what I'm saying about 1080p is that it's unnecessary due to hogging bandwidth. I usually use the cordon bounds tool on a smaller area at the end to figure out what sunlight I want to use.

If I have the "2d skybox" texture instead of the "skybox" texture will it still work with the light environment.

Could you update those files please? Nothing works well at the moment, no some textures/objects ground is black sky is white cant move..
You should only render up to 720p, a lot of people only have monitors that support that amount, or internet quick enough for 720p.

Yes, it's called 'ray traced preview' its in the top left corner of the 3d preview window deropdown menu.
