    I bought a Herman Miller Aeron with mesh. It was extremely uncomfortable. I gave it to my brother. He loves it. I replaced it with the Ergohuman with mesh. It was much more comfortable but I found the mesh uncomfortable after an hour of sitting. I swapped out the mesh with leather and that made it just right. I've had the Ergohuman chair with leather cushions for over 10 years now and have sat in it every day for about 8 hours. I still love the Ergohuman chair with leather. I did have to replace the armrests for $85 in 2022 as the original foam was splitting. I paid just under $700 10 years ago for the chair and I see they're now selling for over $900. I'd buy another one.

    I ended up getting the Ergohuman for a few reasons -- the head rest. I like a head rest when I take breaks and when watching movies and TV. I work from home and spend about 10-12 hrs/day in this chair. I also like the lumbar support and the ability to move the seat pan back and forth. My favorite feature is the all-in-one control. It makes it easy to tweak your adjustments. I also like the resistance you get from the back rest which can also be adjusted. I am 5'8" and have no issues with the height adjustment. The only con I really have is that I cannot move the arm rests out -- I have broad shoulders and I had to get used to bringing my arms in closer to my body. Warranty wise, I think it is a good warranty for the price of the chair. I used the Aeron in the past when I worked for a prestigious law firm, but the over one thousand dollar price is a tough pill to swallow when using your hard earned cash. Personally, I think that the price of the Aeron chair is too high for what you get, but at the same time, you get that awesome warranty and it's American made (if that is your thing). In conclusion, I think both chairs are great, but the price of the Herman Miller is a big issue for most people. Then I think the Ergohuman is overpriced as well. After tax, my Ergohuman set me back close to 800 bucks which is the most I have ever paid for an office chair.

    • @evshrug
      @evshrug 3 года назад +1

      I think the majority of the shipping fee and restocking fees are built into the cost of the Herman Miller, as well as the warranty.
      Good to know about the Ergohuman though, because I work from home too and I also like to recline with a headrest sometimes! Helps your butt when you can distribute some of your weight into the back of the chair.
      I’m 6’ 2” and about 190lbs after dinner (somewhat thin for my height), do you think I should research the Ergohuman some more? Which specific model did you get?

    We moved into a new building that came with furniture. There was a single Ergohuman and about 80 Herman Millers. I much preferred the Ergohuman as a larger man and had no problem sitting in it for 10+ hours a day. Herman Miller is nice and the warranty and support makes business sense but their chairs are highway robbery to come close to feature parity with the Ergohuman.

    I own both, bought Ergohuman more than 10 years ago and Aeron remastered a year ago. The Aeron I bought was size B, but I feel smaller than the original version and I would choose size C although I am about 5'10 and 160 lbs, suppose fit size B very well. Ergohuman quality is actually pretty good as I am still using it after 10 years, the mesh is still tight. I would say to me Ergohuman is a better buy.

    • @yemail5555
      @yemail5555 4 года назад +8

      @@Smood47 I do not agree with that. The new Remastered uses too much plastic compare with the original version and it also lacks some of the adjustments Ergohuman has. The only advantage Aeron has is its mesh. The mesh tighter than that of Ergohuman which is good to me but the frame is just not that high quality that I expected.

      I've sat in the Aeron and it really doesn't impress me. The build quality does not feel like a $1200 chair. It feels like a $400 chair. It's not significantly better than the Ergohuman, which I actually find to be slightly more comfortable overall. That said, the Herman Miller Embody is probably the all-around best chair I've ever sat in. That thing actually feels like a $1500 chair with the way in which it perfectly curves to your back and posture while still providing adequate support.

    I've been using the same Ergo Human chair since 2008 and I can't imagine getting anything else. I can't believe this video's comments about the build quality. With all the chrome components, this thing looks far sturdier than the Herman Miller. And the mesh seat is still in fantastic shape after nearly 14 years of use. The only thing I've had to replace are the wheels, and a full replacement set cost me like $75. I sit in this chair for 40+ hours a week, every week, and have been working from home exclusively in this chair for the last 8 years. So you could say, I recommend it.

      @evshrug 3 года назад +1

      25% seems high... but considering that a returned chair will lose the ability to sell as new I think some restocking fee is reasonable. It’s like a car, as soon as a car has one owner and leaves the lot, it loses thousands of dollars in value and starts depreciating. Maybe something more like 15% would be a good balance between not taking a massive business hit due to tire kickers and the customer not being too hurt if they did their research but find out that the product will be unusable for them.
      The cost of shipping for heavy bulky item like a chair is higher than that of a laptop or tablet too.
      Herman Miller builds these shipping and restocking fees into the price of their chairs, that’s a part of why they cost so much more (and used ones cost like half as much).

    Cannot decide which chair. I'm currently sat in the Ergohuman writing this - I've got around 10 days left of the 'cooling off' period where-by I can send the Ergohuman back and swap for what would be the Aeron. Sadly I couldn't test both without driving a few hundred miles so I took a wild guess and ordered the Ergohuman.
    The ergohuman is a lovely 'weighty' chair. Most of the frame being made from metal makes it feel hefty. The range of adjustments are nice. The mesh is supportive/comfy and it looks pretty futuristic from the back. HOWEVER!... The lower back support is what I can only describe as 'aggressive'. There's no option to adjust or decrease how harsh it presses into your low back, so for the last few days I've been having some quite nasty back-ache. Unsure if it's an adjustment period but this is what's making me think I need to swap to the Aeron.

    • @evshrug
      @evshrug 3 года назад +3

      Huh, my principle is usually that cheap is usually a waste of money, and the difference between midrange and high end is usually that midrange is “good enough/the sweet spot for value” and high end is “more polished/diminishing returns, with small improvements requiring a leap in cost.” This has been true with computers, cars, headphones, and even toys like lego kits.
      However, some things are best considered “Buy once, cry once,” where there is a clear best choice regardless of its higher price. I don’t know if office chairs fall under this category: they’re almost all better than chairs from grade school or college, and it seems that there isn’t a clear “best” choice due to how subjective seating comfort is, but I haven’t tried a Herman Miller or Steelcase chair.

In my country, most of people needs to work at least for 6 months (saving full salary) to earn enough money to get a chair like this... a regular Gamer chair costs around $1500 to $2000 (local money... not dollar) here. An ErgoHuman start in $4000 and a Herman Miller costs around $7000 to $9000. Anyway, I tried a ErgoHuman V2 chair and I loved the experience... I really wanted the Sayl chair, because of its great modern looks. The Embody chair intrigued me. Because I'm broad in the shoulders and I have an upper back injury, neither of these chairs provided enough upper back support. The only office chair that Herman Miller sells that really felt comfortable was the Aeron. I also saw the Ergohuman and it's a No Go. The Ergohuman chair did not provide good upper back support. I heard a lot of bad things about the ergo chairs armrests. They're always moving, because they aren't locked. And because of the hardness, shape and missing horizontal rotation, they seem to be very uncomfortable after a few hours.
    What do you think about that?

    • @Person-mh6xq
      @Person-mh6xq Год назад

      100% correct about the arms. Very annoying; they are constantly moving. I think it's a total waste to have arms that rotate left and right...and particularly ones that won't lock, as you mentioned. Other than that I love the chair.

      Ergo chair and Ergohuman are different chairs

  • @TheEvilVir
    @TheEvilVir 3 года назад +3

    I've just replaced Ergohuman with Aeron. It would be good chair, good build quality and durability. But the lumbar support is the worst ever. It's not adjustable spring always pushing hard on your lower back. Because of this I tend to slide down the chair, to less ergonomic position but in which I don't feel that constant push from support piece.
    Overall Ergohuman is a good chair, way better than any no-name ikea-style cheap chairs, but once I sat in Aeron I immediately felt in love with it. I have it for too short yet to tell if it will not give me any problems, pain etc. but first impressions are that it beats already good Ergohuman hands down.
    Anyway the review got it wrong: lumbar support IS NOT adjustable at all in Ergohuman. It moves altogether with the whole back of the chair up and down but that's it. No force adjustment, no curvature adjustment, nothing.

    • @pineapplethief4418
      @pineapplethief4418 3 года назад

      Hey, hi! Thanks for useful info, one quick question What can you tell about edge of the seat of ergohuman? Judging from photos it looks like it can be uncomfortable, or sag a bit towards plastic, cutting into legs a bit in some positions, esp. when reclined.

    • @TheEvilVir
      @TheEvilVir 3 года назад +1

      @@pineapplethief4418 Well I had problems with legs on Ergohuman as well - sometimes my ankles got swollen after whole day of use. It's not that I felt the front edge cutting into my tighs so I can't 100% blame that piece. Maybe that was due to the fact I was sitting in wrong position in the first place, to avoid that hellish lumbar.
      On Aeron I also do feel a little pressure on the tights in some positions, especially when front tilt is engaged. So it's probably me. Ergohuman has the seat depth adjustment so you can try and push the edge away.
      I have hard time judging Ergohuman. On one hand I was using it for almost 5 years. Before I had cheap chair from Jysk and Ergohuman was day and night change to better. But recently, over past year or so, I started to have problems, back pain etc. So I switched to Aeron and like it better, also I think I have better sitting possition now, but time will tell if it was worth the change after all.

    • @pineapplethief4418
      @pineapplethief4418 3 года назад

      @@TheEvilVir Lack of adjustability (and price) is what worries me with Aeron. I have pretty bad case of lower back hernia and sciatica (wasn't able to sit, stand or walk for past 3 months like at all) and trying to find office chair for my special needs, seems like adjustable lumbar support, seat with waterfall edge and good reclined position with larger angle (i.e. to alternate between sitting almost straight and reclined, with notebook on a VESA-mount stand to be highly adjustable) is a key for me. Looks like ergohuman lumbar aims to be sort of fits-all.
      If you don't mind me asking, what's your height and weight?

    • @TheEvilVir
      @TheEvilVir 3 года назад +3

      @@pineapplethief4418 Well the problem with Ergohuman is that the lumbar is on non-adjustable spring-like thing. So it pushes you out of the chair with a force that you can't adjust at all. It either fits for you or not at all.
      I'm 193cm tall and weight around 125kg, that's one of the reasons I took Aeron C. I tried also other things like Interstuhl AirPad but the tilt tension, even at it highest setting, was too little for me and I just was falling back. On Aeron I can make that tension so tight that even I have trouble moving it (not that I set it that high, just making a point).
      One thing I need to recommend you: as you already have back problems, do not buy your chair just based on the internet opinions/reviews. Go and sit on that chair in some showroom/store. I traveled half a country recently, to choose my chair and I did good because my first choice was aformentioned AirPad and as great chair it is I would regret getting it because it just didn't fit me. Scores like BTOD.com gives are also, by their very design, flawed. What does 83/100 means for you and your problems? Not much. Really, take your time and check these chairs yourself, sit on them, test them.

      If you look at HM’s sizing chart, it seems clear that the Size C would have been the intended fit for you.
      Sometimes a small change makes all the difference, and maybe the angles and sculpting would have hit your tall frame (in imperial units, you’re nearly 6’ 3” and significantly taller than most people in the US) in such a way that you would have been better supported, your weight more evenly distributed and no spots to pinch off circulation mid-thigh.
      Humanity has been sitting in hard plastic or hard wood chairs for centuries. Though it’s fair to say we sit A LOT more now than ever before, what we’ve learned is that shape is more important than give. Sitting on a foam cushion, eventually you hit a point of resistance where the foam stops compressing and it returns the exact same amount of “equal and opposing force” back on you as a firm chair does... it’s just the mesh and foam can conform to more seating positions than hard plastic or wood, and perhaps the foam conforms to more seating positions (but the elasticity might last less long in an individual extended seating session or have a shorter lifetime before needing the foam replaced).

      The foam pads on my gaming chair and hand me down office chair both suck, which is why I don’t feel like foam is an automatic solution. Though I feel like I’ve outgrown the styling of the gaming racechair seat, I do feel like it’s more comfortable than the school and college chairs of my past, and the cheap office chair (with foam seat) even below that.
      I’ll give you that the “wings” along the side of the Aeron might restrict you from having your legs out to the side more. While I still feel a size C was intended for someone your size, I’d guess from your profile picture that you’re quite muscular and the width of the seat might still not be enough for you.
