Hi Christine. I've been in love with the toaster sweater pattern since it first came out 8 years ago. It's probably my favorite pattern. I'm so glad you show everyone the pattern's potential by showcasing your toaster wardrobe items and hacks. Lovely!
Mine are mostly print fleece, but I have made a few solids too. I make mine tunic length withtout any cuffs or hip band. I sometimes make the turtleneck much higher so I can wear it up if it's very cold or very windy or folded down if it's a mild temperature out. Sometimes I make the neckband split, with the split at the left raglan sleeve. Sometimes I put buttons on the underside of the split neckband so I can make it a deep turtlrneck (with buttons done up) or wear it totally laying flat against the tunic. Sometimes I leave the neckband off and finish it by folding under the bodice fabric.
As you can guess, my toasters take up quite a bit of my closet. I did count them up: 19. They all get worn over T-shirts or turtleneck jersey tops with jeans or cords or skirts or overalls. I love having color; once I realized I could sew up these light and warm toppers, I was so happy to not be always in plain and drab colors. I have prints with cardinals for Christmas, pumpkins for fall, bats for Halloween, fall leaves for autumn, trees with leaves, trees without leaves, sunflowers, hearts, flowers, fallen leaves, geometric prints, winter mountains, animal prints, bears, panthers in the jungle, swirls, fish, and camo. I am color- and pattern-rich and love it, Antonia

So happy to see the Toaster get the airtime it deserves. 🙏 I made 5 last winter and a tshirt version for spring with crew neck and short sleeves. Got the fabric ready on my ironing board for more new ones. Thank you so much for the 1 Metre cutting example.

I love the Toasters, too, and have made 3--two from version 1 and one from version 2. It's a great scrap buster.

Hi Christine, I’ve made both versions of the Toaster. I love them both. I’m considering doing a mash up of the patterns using the top of version 1 with the raglan sleeve but grading out and using the looser fit band-less bottom as in version 2. I’ve never pattern hacked before so I’m looking forward to trying. I might also do as you have done and lengthen the sweater into a dress. Yours is fabulous 😊🥰

Every version is lovelier than the next Christine! I've made both versions and each has its own wonderfulness. I haven't made a dress version, but I just washed a beautiful cable knit and am giving it a try!

I love that colour on you Christine, you look so smart. I struggle with wearing things that touch my neck but I’m thinking that a looser collar might work, if not I could maybe ruche it down at the front and sides. It’s a shame though really because it would hide my other chin 🤣😂🤣🤣. X

Good tips. i made my first toaster a few years ago in a fur backed fabric in a size small as per my measurements, I found it didn’t have enough ease as you said. The next one gave me a headache or rather the fabric did, the stretch I discovered was greater along the vertical rather than the horizontal. But I discovered that too late! Time I gave the pattern another outing with a more informed mind.
