Ford Bronco DR: 400bhp, $295k Ultimate Off-Roader

- It’s not a road car, but where this thing wants to go, you don’t need… roads. The Ford Bronco DR: a purpose-built off-road racer that Ford describes as a “first-of-its-kind” limited production, Baja 1000 race ready SUV. That’s right, the DR stands for Desert Racer, but It’s not just a Bronco with some stripes on it. There's a full Multimatic FEA-optimised roll cage with integrated tubes and the body panels are made from fibreglass. There’s no air-con, glass, nor any other “interior amenities”. There is however, a 5.0-litre Ford Coyote V8 putting out 'over' 400bhp.
So, we asked Ford if we could insert Jethro Bovingdon into the driving seat to see if he could master this competition-ready off-road racer...

It's a real flex to use stock parts on this vehicle. it's real showmanship to have something like this built ready to compete using stock parts just frakensteined together
I like the paint and the style of the truck. Great project from Ford. Hopefully this will spawn some more affordable versions.

What an absolute monster
To put the performance in perspective:
A Raptor and Bronco Raptor will cruise around Johnson Valley at 80-90mph when going hard.
At 105mph the Bronco DR will pass you like you're standing still on a small city street, but...
This city street is the terrain of the moon and is followed by boulders

Why talk like robot grammar do you?
Braptor and Raptor R typically top out around 60-70, TRX a lot less. It drops off as the terrain gets harder. This will go 105 over almost anything but 2-3 ft whoops and washboards.

22 hours at the Baja 1000 on a vehicle with the frame and body of a road car is outrageous. And with just 15.5 inches of travel up front and 17 inches out back.

but this *does* have a v8, *AND* the Raptor F150 + Bronco both ended up getting V8 variants in the end as well, so what are you complaining about? V8s are fun, sure, but are you really not mature enough to accept the fact that it's unacceptable to cause hardship for millions of people and harm the environment all for the sake of this one specific way of having "fun"? There are other ways of having fun, and even plenty of other acceptable ways of having fun in ICE cars that are still acceptable with today's laws, so do yourself a favor and move on. The longer you stay stuck on not letting yourself enjoy the options that are still available, the more joyless your life will be.

Dakar is very different rules and classes
Wouldn't be Dakar legal sadly. Lots of elements not in compliance with Dakar regulations, but the most blatant are that the Bronco has more suspension travel and bigger tyres than Dakar allows

Narrator probably never watched WRC in their life for saying those bumps (on soft sand mind you) would snap a WRC in too, If they did watch them they'd see how high they jump and how hard the ground is, and on much smaller suspension and rubber.
I like rally but A WRC car would get eaten up by Baja.
And life just goes by, seing our dreams everyday come true for other people. Potential dying every day here.

Don't let street cars and video games confuse you, over 400 hp on dirt roads will practically make you have to rebuild after every run. High speeds on rough terrain is stressful on components. This is built for longevity.

The fact that this Bronco has a factory engine and drivetrain as a basic f-150 speaks LEVELS of engineering out of Ford! Insane!
The 5.0 motor and 10 speed transmission are amazing. Especially when combined together.
uhh, pretty sure the 5.0 Coyote engine is *not* available in a _basic_ F-150... I'm pretty sure you have to get a Raptor R to get a V8 in the F-150 now, and I think that comes with the Predator engine.
@@moogle68 For 2024, XL,XLT, Tremor, and Lariat can still get the 5.0 coyote, only the KR, Platinum, and Regular Raptor cant get the coyote.

I'll never understand people that get stuck up about individual words... this is not even remotely close to the Bronco "Badlands" that your local gas station clerk drives as a daily, this is full blown race truck (think racecar, like NASCAR, except off-road) that obviously has more performance than you have brain cells.
Cool vehicle for sure. This would have been so much better with Richard Hammond. He would have bouncing off the walls with excitement. This dude can make anything boring.

Oh, just that they cant make cars. But its not just cars. Its the entire corporate Americas focus on cheapness for the flagwaving masses. When did they ever step up and build the good stuff. Thats not just in cars. See if you can name a single top-end, quality, even luxury brand thats made in the US of Murca. For the last 20 years. Or since forever.
The Bronco everyone asked for not the V6 or 4cyl garbage we got.
