At 00:11:57, you showed an image of Osamu Tezuka, creator of Astro Boy, instead of Buichi Terasawa. Boy, I sure hope someone gets fired for that blunder.
The Fujoshi interview made my skin crawl. I had to pause the video multiple times to really digest the fact she asked those questions to the CREATOR OF THE MANGA HIMSELF.
Yeah. Like, I ship some popular Jojo ships but if I was asked to interview Araki himself I’d stay as far away from that topic as possible! And the fact she had the balls to bring up the incest ships to the creator of the series itself is a whole new level of gross 🤢
"The reason they're called 'Vomics' is probably what you're thinking..." Wait, so it actually has something to do with vomit?? "...because they're VOICEd COMICs" .......oh.
im actually floored that the thumbnails are comissioned, i just assumed it was clipart from the anime pasted on an iceberg. thats absolutely incredible, holy shit
Correction for 2:28: The cover for the English release of “Manga in Theory and Practice: The Craft of Creating Manga” was not designed by Hirohiko Araki, the actual designers are Sam Elzway & Shawn Carrico. The Japanese version of the book (Hirohiko Araki's Manga Techniques) has a drawn cover by Araki.
I very much like being reminded that RUclipsrs watch as much or more of RUclips as I do Knowing that people I respect also spend hours on this site makes me feel less insane (not true)
Your content is genuinely inspiring to me. The way you can go from Pokemon Friendlocke to Sonic Archie comics to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure iceberg without it feeling insanely jarring speaks to your talent as a creator.
This series has been the only source of JoJo’s information I’ve ever had, and I really think that was a horrible mistake because one of the first Jojo related things I learned about was the god damn Horse thing
I kinda buy Araki claiming "I'm nothing like Rohan" cuz to me it seems more like he made Rohan as the dark mirror/alter ego version of himself, like the Shadow to his Sonic, the dark pit to his normal pit or something
We finally did it. Iggy, Avdol, Norm, our edging streak is over. The Jojos iceberg is no more Love your content Mr. Dan I know this is going to be an amazing watch
Amazing video as always. This is easily the best Jojo iceberg out there and one of the best iceberg videos in general. You should be extremely proud of yourself. 10/10 would jojo again!
no joke, araki's quote from the end of ice berg made me shed tears of happiness, it's not even that I'm the kind of person who cries during every other movie, it's just that jojo and araki themselv changed me so much and mean so much to me that I couldn't help it stop
I got into Jojo early last year and have since watched all the anime parts. Watching this series has made me learn so much more I would of never otherwise. Congrats on finishing the Jojo iceberg series!
Love this vid! But a small correction: the definition of fujoshi you gave is an extreme example of fujoshi. In recent years especially, the term has more or less been reclaimed and most self-identifying fujos of today mainly just use the term to describe their love of the genre, and plenty of them are queer themselves and also consume yuri/GL content, not necessarily obsessing over gay men like you described. But there's definitely many who DO cross the line, like the crazy lady you mentioned in the video 😵
Congrats on finally getting this out, Salty, four years for four parts, truly Mista's nightmare. But I gotta point out regarding the Raimi/Araki interview that the magazine you showed, Weekly Playboy, is not considered a Japanese version of Playboy. There used to be a Japanese version, known as Monthly Playboy as to distinguish the two, but it stopped being published in 2009. The fact that the two are unrelated trips a lot of people up, aided by the fact that both are published by Shueisha (probably a reason why Araki was even an interviewer option). Heavy agrees on Taizo Mote King Sage and other less popular stuff needing official translations! Too much stuff ends up getting swept under in Western discussion without translations... fans of blub know what I mean, as one of many examples.
Wow! It’s so cool of Salty to go through every comment individually! You don’t see content creators that dedicated to their community and it’s really refreshing to see him not care about the algorithm. (Good vid man this helped my two hour wait fly by)
Diamond is Unbreakable is the best part of jojo. And Jolyne Cujoh is my favorite fictional astronaut of all time. I don't think i could've courageously gotten through these past few years of retail work without thinking about her roughly even a single day.
I don't go here, I have never watched jojo and I have no intention to, but I have watched each of these iceberg videos and I just want to say how much entertainment these huge videos have been for me. So thank you salty, these videos have been well worth the time and pain they were to create and your dedication will not go unnoticed. please continue to make the videos you want to
Thank you, Salty for the YEARS of painstaking effort you've put into this Iceberg series... genuinely, this should be seen by all JoJo fans, new and old alike. It's just so fascinating and damn... I would lie if I didn't say that the ending here didn't hit me hard like a Star Platinum's punch. Thank you for this all.
One of my favorite fun facts/references is the naming behind Purple Haze Feedback. Purple Haze is named after the Jimi Hendrix song of the same name, and one of Hendrix's many innovations in music with the electric guitar was using guitar feedback-- usually an undesired effect where a microphone picks up the sound from a speaker, which sends the sound back through the mic again, and so on-- intentionally to create new sounds. Notable examples of this from his career if you're interested can be found on "Machine Gun", the fade out on "Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland)" and his performance of "The Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock. This might be closer to general music history than JoJo lore, but it's an example of how Araki will reference elements of the music he pays homage to in more than name, an element of the story I love as someone who grew up on that music. Also great series Salty, I went through the first 3 parts a second time when this one dropped cause it's just that good. Hope you can rest now o7
Oh my god, he actually finished it, I’m about to finish the anime and will add this to the series of videos I am going to watch a hundred times in the coming years. Thanks for introducing me to this series Salt Man.
The battle cats has (tragically) never collabed with jojos even though that would be perfect and they've collabed with similarly popular anime already, but the cat "delinquent cat" is a direct reference to jotaro. It even has a chance to freeze certain enemies!
Hey salty i am happy because of your content, these videos have been super helful so much i actually downloaded all of your videos for when the internet goes out.
Omg how funny you mention Haruno in this iceberg since I remember making a joke analysis on him, with a in-depth explanation of his existence. I never finished it since I lost a lot of steam, and it seems pointless now since the meme is dead at this point and I'm not that brain rotted for Jojo (even though I had been for two whole years). I could post what I wrote here. Also really great video. I seriously love this mini series you have for it and it honestly make me appreciate jojos more. I know it's the end for this specifically, but look forward if you do make more Jojo content or hell, talk about the other series Araki made (BT or Boah would be cool). Anyways keep up the great work and love your stuff.
I just have to say that the wait was worth it, the effort put into making these Iceberg parts really shows! The topics in the Iceberg were very intriguing, many were funny, many blew my mind, and many just had me thinking "what the fuck?". It sounds like you've had so much fun going over this iceberg (outside of the lengthy process), it's been such a wild ride!
3:09 as a brazilian i can tell you that this is not one of our flags but rather it is the country's/goverment's coat of arms, also this may not be the reason for the inclusion on the cover art but brazil and japan have a very close history together culturally and of immigration
Oh my god I literally just checked your channel 3 days ago to see if you ever uploaded this part and just figured you forgot about it this is crazy. I am excited to watch this it's finally here these have all been awesome man great work! Great videos for one of my favorite series ever
1:27:07 I think its really funny how much you talked about how weird Bubka is and why Araki would do an interview for it, and yet never elaborated on why there would be an interview between Araki and Sam Raimi in a fucking Playboy magazine
To add more context to Remote Romance 25:30, the name Dixie Flatline most likely come from the book Neuromancer, written by William Gibson in 1984. The character McCoy Pauly, who had the nickname of the Dixie Flatline, was an excellent coder similarly to the Jojo’s character. Another fact is that Pauly is dead by the time the novel takes place, but he created an artificial intelligence that replicates his hacking skills. There is no way in hell this is not a coincidence, and definitely proves that Araki definitely read this book. There are too many parallels between Remote Romance and McCoy Pauly.
finally got the time to watch this, and wow. i just got back into jojo (rewatching it with my little brother) and this really made me realize how important jojo was and is to my life. great video i only knew about like one thing on this list
Watching this at like 3 AM but I have to say as someone who rewatched them all of the time that the old Day in my Life Videos do not suck ass and even tho it has been five years since I watched them I revisit them constantly and they still make me just feel good, some of my favorite videos on RUclips on general and that I always rewatch on special occasions. The exhaustion is hitting me now so thanks for the last five years of laughs and good feelings Salt man and it’s great to finally see this ice berg completed
i will forever be grateful for the existence of araki, his work has helped me develop as an artist myself. before jojo i would mostly draw in the generic anime artstyle, once i got into jojo i inevitably started to replicate the art. seeing how arakis art developed into a semi realistic style and all the cool poses he uses has inspired me to start the development of my own semi realism artstyle as well as motivate me into getting out my comfort zone and draw full body illustrations.
Something fun about the whole “Steel Ball Run was not initially considered part 7 of Jojo’s thing,” is that as a result, the DS Shonen Jump crossover fighter, Jump Super Stars, considered Steel Ball Run a separate series from Jojo’s. This is notable because every series in the game normally only gets one stage, but because SBR is considered its own thing, it got its own separate stage. This was changed in the game’s sequel, Jump Ultimate Stars, where SBR was properly considered part of Jojo’s, and therefore there was only one Jojo stage. Funnily enough the Gyro assist was still in the game, despite it being a Shonen Jump crossover and him not technically being a Shonen Jump character anymore. I think that makes him the only non-Shonen Jump reference in that game overall, though as I’m not too familiar with many of the series in that game I can’t say for sure.
Another fun fact for those who found these 4 hour-long videos not enough/Salty reading these out of boredom: There is a russian JoJo parody manga called ZhoZho's Bizarre Ventures (Причудливые Авантюры ЖоЖо), that's been ongoing for multiple years now and as of writing this has 4 volumes and a crossover with their other parody manga - Saw Man (Человек-Пила)
I liked Jojo before I watched this series of videos, but now I have so much more of an appreciation for this franchise hearing so much about even the smallest most obscure parts of it. Really glad I watched all this 🔥
I remember joking that Salty needed to put himself on the iceberg years ago when he was still working on part 2 and he responded saying the idea was hilarious. Im so glad it happened
I'm actually shocked how low down the "SBR wasn't a JoJo at first" is on the Iceberg as this was one of the big "did you know" moments from the community i had when catching up over a decade ago but i guess it was more recent then compared to now where the anime is actually going to catch up and start AS JoJo instead of being Steel Ball Run with it's main protag being Gyro (still was for 90% of the part 7 run imo but i digress)
51:23 That's awful! I'd personally love to hear why you feel this way. I'm fine with Deku having powers, but him not having powers would be an interesting alternate universe.
1:20:50 PFFF- How did that catch me off guard so badly, lmao. If I didn't have a near empty glass of water i would have spilled it on my art tablet! Also good video so far Salty!!
I have some information to add, the promotional flash videos mentioned in both part 3 and this one also featured some early part 1 colored scans, and evidence suggests the website where they were featured were either made on the same time or even earlier than the Phantom Blood movie, explaining why they were used in the movie's promotional material. In case you're wondering there was a whole other website adjacent to the SBR one with small flash videos promoting every single part up to that point, one video for each. All of them have very similar styles to the SBR videos which makes me believe that poeyama was responsible for not only all of the videos (including the songs) but the websites they were featured in as well, and if you look their name up on youtube you'll find a youtube channel with a website linked to it which shows they do in fact have experience with adobe animate and flash. Same goes for their twitter account where they show some projects they were involved with. As a bonus fact they were also responsible for that official trailer for Jojolion's colored manga, as they mention it in their twitter account. Also 44:08 holy shit I can't believe my crappy edit is still making the rounds lmao
I'm finally THEE JoJo fan. Watched the video with some friends and it was really enjoyable seeing how much I knew/didn't know. And lol... there's a lot that I didn't know, but was really interesting to learn! I gotta say, I can see why it took so much time to finalize this project - but it's really dope to see how much care you were able to put into it. Good job on getting it done. There was a lot of cool facts, but I think the most weirdly relatable and creepy one was that fujoshi interview... But props to Araki for playing it cool lol. At some point, enough has to be enough and you gotta be able to read the room.
Oh, minor thing that I noticed right off the cuff of "Manga in Theory and Practice," that specific star in the back (and, by extension, on the Brazilian flag) is actually a Nautical star, which is seen a lot in particularly North American tattoo culture, especially those serving in the Navy. Is what it WOULD be, but the star on Manga in Theory in Practice is actually mis-filled. What makes a Nautical star a nautical star is that each of the 5 points is bisected by a vertical line, and half of the star is fully shaded in. While I don't think there's any specificity needed on which of the halves of each point gets filled in, the important part is that the pattern remains consistent for all 5 points, such that the pattern would go black-white-black-white... etc. all the way around the star. And you can see that in the Brazilian flag. However, in the Manga in Theory and Practice's star, you can see that the two points on the left side are actually flipped.
Got my friend to watch JoJo as his first anime. We got to part 3.The orangutan with lil girl ass episode and the pig scat eater episodes were so uncomfortable for him back to back that we had to take a break. He had so much defeat and sadness in his voice.
You forgot a super cool bit of cross-franchise lore. Gibbi from I Carly has a stand called “Late to da Party” which he got when his battle with Socko’s stand, “Industry Baby,” resultedin the Groovy Smoothy exploding and a shard of a stand arrow being imbedded in his eye. In my opinion, it was the best of both I Carly and JJBA. It’s a shame they dropped that story line before we found out who killed Freddy.
Here's another cool piece of trivia! Did you know that the author illustrated a cover for the science magazine Cell, specifically the September 2007 issue, which depicted a ligase as a Stand?
I love how the only 2 facts I knew were that the thumnail is a reference of Mistas fear and that Nintendo made game cards. Really shows deep these facts are and I really respect the work you put in this.
Between this episode coming out and the last one I have become really obsessed with jojo again to the point were I actually knew some of the stuff being talked about in this video beforehand, that was pretty cool. Anyways I just also really love this series and can really appreciate the time and dedication salty put into this video. I don’t know if salty reads all the comments because it’s probably a pretty long time investment, but I also just want to thank you for these iceberg videos I watched them all on their release days and rewatched them multiple times afterwards and If enjoyed them all. I know this comment is also completely without structure and is way to long but again thank you salty for these videos they’re great.
After following and seeing how much salty has been working on this video and how much he has been putting his all into finishing this iceberg series I finnaly decided to start watching jojo and honestly its been amazing. Ive been following salty for a while now and have always been interested in getting more into jojo because of how much he gushes about it and I couldnt be happier to be finnaly seeing and loving this bizarre ₕₑₕₑ series. Im still not caught up with it currently I just finished part 3 but I cant wait for more of this show it really is so unique and extremely entertaining. Keep up the amazing work salt man!

The Fujoshi interview made my skin crawl. I had to pause the video multiple times to really digest the fact she asked those questions to the CREATOR OF THE MANGA HIMSELF.

finally got the time to watch this, and wow. i just got back into jojo (rewatching it with my little brother) and this really made me realize how important jojo was and is to my life. great video i only knew about like one thing on this list
FINALLY, was waiting for this for so long
I guess im not sleeping today. Because im gonna watch this banger
THE JOJO PART 4 ICE BERG IS REAAAAALL
i've been waiting for this, thank you!
YAY THE DAY WE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!
51:49 Ace Attorney music detected. Hyperfixaton powers activated.
Omg just like Apollo....
Really glad I watched all this 🔥
I've been waiting for this moment!
I remember joking that Salty needed to put himself on the iceberg years ago when he was still working on part 2 and he responded saying the idea was hilarious. Im so glad it happened
THANKS FOR THE FOOD SALTMAN
An amazing amount of dedication was put into all 4 parts of this iceberg! You deserve a little bit of engagement boost.
In the words of Joseph, “OH MY GOD” I can’t believe it’s out, this series has made me watch Jojo and I’m excited to see what’s in store with this
1:20:50 PFFF-
How did that catch me off guard so badly, lmao.
The greatest Birthday Gift
Thank you Salty
Whenever my friend shows people JoJo he either warns them of the orangutan episode or just skips it and sums it up quickly
Fun fact: I read and watched the entirety of the main parts between part 2 of 4 and 3 of 4, of this series IIRC.
I love you put Mista in the thumbnail
Well it is the lucky number that he loves.
Bro guessed it before salty indicated it
@@41dn felt like I should've told him about me ask Sam Raimi if he remembered that interview tho ngl
58:34 - Ironically enough, the rougher hatching style ends up working perfectly for Part 1, fitting the Fist of the North Star vibes perfectly.
Keep up the amazing work salt man!
can't wait to watch this one !
Absolutely fantastic that you found that fujo interview, I tried looking for it myself like a year ago and had no luck
cant believe salty mentioned homestar runner and snail fucking in the same video
